Introduction
If you upgrade the firmware of your PowerShot SD430 DIGITAL ELPH WIRELESS/DIGITAL
IXUS WIRELESS camera, it will be possible to transfer images between cameras* via a wireless
connection without using a PC.
This guide will explain procedures for transferring images via a wireless connection. For
guidance in the use of the camera, safety precautions and radio wave warning, please refer to
the Camera User Guide.
* Image transfer is only possible between PowerShot SD430 DIGITAL ELPH WIRELESS/DIGITAL IXUS WIRELESS cameras
with upgraded firmware.
* Images are transferred from one camera to another camera. Images cannot be transferred between more than 2 cameras.

Transferring Images via a Wireless Connectio n
First, select a name for your camera and register it.
Register the name of the camera you wish to connect to your camera via a wireless connection.
zYou must follow the following procedures for both your own and the target camera.
Registering Your Camera Name
1Slide the mode switch to (Playback)
(Wireless) Menu [Set Camera Name]
zRefer to the Camera User Guide for your camera for details on
Menu operation.
2Set up name and press .
zYou can set up the camera name with up to 5 letters. Select let-
ters using the or button, and press the or button to
move forward or backward. Capital letters and numbers can be
used for the camera name.
zThe default setting is [AAAAA].
zIf you do not wish to register a name, press the MENU button.
Registering Target Camera
1Slide the mode switch to (Playback)
(Wireless) Menu [Reg. Target Device]
2Select [Camera] for target device and press .

Make sure that your camera displays your camera’s
name and that the target camera displays its camera
name and press the on both cameras simulta-
neously (within approximately 10 seconds).
z This step connects your camera to the target camera and registers
each camera's name in the other camera as a target device.
zWhen the wireless connection starts, the wireless lamp will begin to blink blue.
z When you wish to change the name, follow Step 2 in Registering Your Camera Name (p. 2).

Connect your camera to the registered target camera via wireless.
zYou must follow the following procedures for both your and the target camera.
zWireless connection is not possible without memory cards inserted in the cameras.
4When the name of the target camera and [Registration completed]
are displayed, press .
zIf the name is already registered, [Already registered] will be displayed.
zIf you have failed to register, go back to Step 1 and repeat the procedure.
Connecting Cameras via a Wireless Connection
1Slide the mode switch to (Playback)
(Wireless) Menu [Connect/Disconnect]
zIf you press the button without displaying the Menu in the
playback mode for both cameras simultaneously (within
approximately 30 seconds), the wireless connection will start.

After confirming that the name of the target camera
is selected as the [Target Device], select [Connect]
and press the (or ) for both cameras simulta-
neously (within approximately 30 seconds).
zWireless connection will start and wireless lamp and but-
ton will both blink blue. If you press the FUNC./SET button while
the light is blinking, the connection will be canceled.
zWhen the connection has been completed, the camera’s wireless lamp and the but-
ton will remain on (without blinking), and the icon will be displayed on the playback
screen, showing the connection’s signal strength.
zIf a camera name other than the one you would like to connect to is displayed as the tar-
get device, use the button to select the [Target Device], and then select the camera of
your choice with or button.
Changing the Wireless Channel
If the channel (useful frequency) is already in use by another device, change the
channel on one of the cameras making the wireless connection to avoid interference
from radio waves. Channel changes on one camera will automatically be reflected on
the other camera.
1Select [Target Device], confirm that the
name of the target camera is displayed
and press .
2Use the or button to change the channel and press .
zPress the MENU button to return to Step 1 without changing the channel.

You can transfer images one by one to a target camera connected via a wireless connection.
zImages can be transferred during index playback.
zReceived images will be stored at the end of all image files.
You may transfer multiple images at the same time to a target camera connected via wireless.
For instructions on how to designate the transfer order, please refer to the Camera User Guide
(Advanced): Setting the DPOF Transfer Settings (p. 91). The explanation given here is the
procedure to transfer the ordered images.
Transferring Images One by One
1Confirm that the cameras are connected via a wireless connection.
zFor instructions on how to connect the cameras via a wireless connection, please refer to
Connecting Cameras via a Wireless Connection (p. 3).
2Select the image you would like to transfer from
your camera and press the button.
zYou may transfer an image by pressing the FUNC./SET button
instead of . In such a case, in the next screen select [Trans-
fer] with the or button, and press the FUNC./SET button
once again.
zThe transfer will begin. The wireless lamp and the button
will blink blue.
zThe transferring camera will display [Transferring] and the receiving camera will display
[Receiving]. When the transfer is complete, [Transfer completed] and [File(s) received] will
be displayed.
zIf you wish to cancel the operation while transferring, press the FUNC./SET button while
[Transferring] is displayed on the screen.
zIf you have failed to receive, [File(s) not received] will be displayed. Press the FUNC./SET
button, and the screen will return to the previous screen.
zIt is not possible to transfer movies or sound memos.
zTwo cameras cannot transfer images at the same time (If one is transferring, the other
camera may only receive).
zThe camera receiving the images cannot cancel while receiving.
Transferring Ordered Images
1Confirm that the cameras are connected via a wireless connection.
zTo make the wireless connection, refer to Connecting Cameras via a Wireless Connection
(p. 3).
2Press on the camera transferring the images
and select [ (Transfer Order)] from [ (Play)
Menu].
zFor details on the Menu operation, please refer to the Camera
User Guide (Advanced).

zReceived images will be stored at the end of all image files.
The wireless connection can be terminated by the following steps.
zEnding from (Wireless) Menu (See below).
zTurn off the power or switch over to Shooting Mode
End with (Wireless) Menu

Select [Transfer] and press .
z If you have not selected the images for transfer order in advance,
specify the images with [Order] or [Mark all] and select [Transfer].
zTransfer of images will begin. The wireless lamp and the
button will blink blue.
z The transferring camera will display [Transferring] and the receiving
camera will display [Receiving]. When the transfer is complete, [Transfer completed] and
[File(s) received] will display.
zIf you wish to cancel the operation while transferring, press the FUNC./SET button while
[Transferring] is displayed on the screen.
zIf you have failed to receive, [File(s) not received] will be displayed. Press the FUNC./SET
button, and the screen will return to the previous screen.
zIt is not possible to transfer movies or sound memos.
zTwo cameras cannot transfer images at the same time (If one is transferring, the other
camera may only receive).
zThe camera receiving the images cannot cancel while receiving.
Ending the Wireless Connection
1(Wireless) Menu [Connect/Disconnect]
2Make sure the name of the camera is displayed as [Target Device],
then select [Disconnect] and press .
zThe wireless connection will end and [Disconnected] will appear
on the target camera screen. Press the FUNC./SET button and
the Playback screen will appear.

Troubleshooting
Camera cannot be registered or wireless connection cannot be selected.
Camera is in shooting mode zChange to Playback mode
Unable to register the target camera in your camera.
Registration limit exceeded in [Target
Device]
zA maximum of 7 new target devices can be
registered in [Target Device]. If you wish to
register additional devices, use [Delete
Registration] to delete target devices you no
longer use. For instructions on how to delete
target devices refer to the Camera User Guide
(Advanced): Deleting Target Devices (p. 104).
The wireless connection has become
weak
zDo not use near a microwave oven or any other
device that emits radio waves.
zDo not place the two cameras far apart.
zDo not place anything between the two cameras.
Unable to transfer images.
There is no free space left in the
memory card of the receiving camera.
zInsert a new memory card.
zIf required, download the images to a computer
and erase them from the memory card to make
space.
The SD memory card is write-protected. zSlide the write protect tab of the SD memory card
upward.
Menu, Delete, Jump or Movie Playback
screen is displayed on the receiving
camera.
zDisplay the still image playback screen.
Wireless connection is disconnected.
The wireless connection has become
weak.
zDo not use near a microwave oven or any other
device that emits radio waves.
zDo not place the two cameras far apart.
zDo not place anything between the two cameras.
When a large volume of images (around
1000) is stored in the memory card, it
may not be possible to establish a
wireless connection.
zDownload necessary images from the memory
card to a computer and erase them from the
memory card to make space.
