Cardax FT Controller 3000

The Cardax FT Controller 3000
TheCardaxFTController3000isanetworkcompatibledevicethatinterfacesCardaxIVand
WiegandreadersintotheCardaxFTCommandCentresystem.
TheCardaxFTController3000integratesmuchofthefunctionalityoftheoriginalCardaxFT
Controller5000withReaderandI/Ofunctionalityintoasingleproduct. CardaxFTLocalBUS
connectionsarenotsupported.
Reader Interface
InterfacestoreadersandassociatedI/Oaresetupasfourdistinctgroups(numbered1to4).
EachgroupisthesameandprovidesconnectiontoeitheroneWiegandortwoCardaxIV
readers,andfourbalanced(4-state)inputsandtwogeneralpurposerelayoutputscapableof
switching24voltsDC/AC,5Aresistiveloads. Eachgroupisalsoprovidedwitha12VDC
500mA(resettablefuse)poweroutput.
TheWiegandandCardaxIVinterconnectionsshareacommonconnectorsuchthateitherone
WiegandortwoCardaxIVreaderscanbeconnectedtoeachport. Thefollowingareexamples
ofpossiblecombinationsoverthefourgroups:
• 4xWiegandreadersonly
• 2 x Cardax IV + 3 x Wiegand readers
• 8xCardaxIVreadersonly

CardaxFTCabinet
RefertotheenclosedCardaxFTCabinetInstallationNote(partnumber3C4513)for
theshipmentcontentsdespatchedwiththeCardaxFTCabinet.
ThecabinetfortheCardaxFTController3000hasalabelontheinsidebacksurface,
indicatingithasbeenconfiguredspecificallyforthisproduct. Thecabinetcanbe
rotated,howeverthedoormustnotbere-hingedastheRunLEDwillnotshinethrough
thedoor.
Power supply TheCardaxFTController3000requiresa 13.6VDC±15%. Forfurtherdetailregarding
powersupplyrefertothe“Technicalspecifications”sectionattheendofthisinstallationnote.
PlugsPA1,PA2,PA3andPA4providepoweroutconnectionpointsvia500mAfuses.
However,thisDCvoltageoutwillbeapproximately0.5VDClowerthanthevoltagesupplied
totheCardaxFTController3000. Thefusesareresettable,(i.e.underfaultconditions,fuses
gohighresistance. Whenthefaultsubsidesorpowerisremoved,thenthefuseswillcooland
resetthemselves).
Thecurrentloadontheseconnectionpoints(PA1toPA4)isinadditiontothe1.0Arequired
bytheCardaxFTController3000.Whenusingtheseconnectionpoints,ensurethePower
SupplytotheCardaxFTController3000iscapableofsupplyingtheextracurrentrequired.
Cabling ForfulldetailsonsitecablingandrecommendedcablespecificationsrefertoChapter2ofthe
CardaxFTInstallationmanual.
Ethernet cabling
ThecommunicationsbetweentheCardaxFTController3000andtheCardaxCommand
CentreFTServercaneitherbeviaadialupmodemor,preferably,viaapermanentEthernet
connection.
Foroptimumperformance10BaseTunshieldedtwistedpair(UTP)(CAT5orbetter)cable
shouldbeusedforEthernetconnections.TheCardaxFTController3000isprovidedwithan
RJ45socket(P2)for10BaseTconnection.
EMI Cable Shields
TocomplywithCErequirementsandimprovenoisesuppression,anEMICableShield(ferrite
core)shouldbeappliedtoboththeethernetcable(P2)andthepowerincable(P1). There
aretwotypesofshields,(i.e.thosethataresplitandthosethatarenot). Theethernetcable

needstouseahingedclampcore,(i.e.asplitshield),whilethepowerincablecanuseeither
type.
Inthecaseofthepowerin(P1)EMIcableshield,thecablemustturnthroughthecoretwice.
Eachextraturnthroughthecoremarkedlyincreasestheimpedanceassociatedwiththecore
andprovidesmoreprotection.
PositiontheEMIcableshieldasclosetotheentrypointofthecabinetaspossible.
RS485Communications
CardaxFTControllerscommunicatewithotherCardaxFTunitsviahighqualitytwistedpair
communicationscablewithlowcapacitance-typicallyCategory5(CAT5)cable.
Thetwistedpaircableispolarisedandneedstobeterminatedatthelast,physicalunit.
RS232 cabling
CommunicationviamodemrequirestheRS232cablingtobeterminatedinaDE9socketand
connectedtoplugP3.
Balanced Inputs
Cablingshouldbeaminimumsizeof0.2mm2(24AWG) forallinputs.
Toensurecorrecttamperdetection(shortoropencircuit),thebalancedinputsrequire4k7
ohmresistorstobeconnectedascloseaspossibleto thedevicebeingmonitored.
Whenthemonitoreddeviceincorporatesanormally-closedtamperswitch,itcanbewiredin
serieswithresistorR1.

PF1toPF4. RefertotheComponentLayoutwithinthisInstallationNoteforwiringthisplug.
Thecablingtoandfromthisrelayplugmustbecapableofcarryingsufficientcurrentforthe
devicetherelayiscontrolling. Therelaycontactcancarry5Ampsat24VDC/ACresistive
load.
Note:TheconnectorsontheCardaxFTController3000accommodatebothhorizontaland
verticalwiringentry.

Installation
1. The “CardaxFTCabinet”InstallationNote(partnumber3C4513)detailsthe
proceduresinvolvedtomounttheCardaxFTCabinet:
- positioningtheCardaxFTCabinetdoor
- removingtheappropriatecutouts
- securingtheCardaxFTCabinettothebuilding.
Note:TheCardaxFTCabinetshouldbeinstalledinasecure,internalsituation.The
securityoftheinstallationultimatelydependsonthewayyouinstalltheCardaxFT
Cabinet.
2. Usingthe9xM3screws,fittheControllerPCBtotherearfaceoftheCardaxFT
Cabinet,ensuringthatthereartampersensoralignswiththelightpipe. Alsoensurethat
thefrontLEDlinesup.
3. Installallthesystemandpowercables.Thecablesshouldstowneatlyandbeheldin
placebythecableclampsfittedintothebaseoftheCabinet.
Refertothenextsection“Componentlayout”forthelocationoftheplugs.

4. InstallthecomponentidentificationdecalinsidetheCardaxFTCabinetdoor. This
decalenablesyoutoenterwiringandconnectiondetailsandidentifiesthelocationand
designationofcableconnections,fuses,LEDs,etc.
5. InitialisetheCardaxFTController3000.

Ethernet setup details
EachCardaxFTController3000hasapre-programmed,uniqueaddress(MACaddress).
WhentheCardaxFTController3000isconnectedtotheEthernet,theCardaxFTCommand
CentreServer(whenconfigured)willrecogniseandacknowledgethisaddress,whichis
automaticallylinkedtoanIPaddress.
Note: TheCardaxFTCommandCentreServermustbeconfiguredtorecognisethe
Controller’sMACaddress(refertotheCardaxFTCommandCentredocumentation).
TheServerthentransmitsthefollowinginformationtotheCardaxFTController3000:
-IPaddressfortheController(3000Series)
-IPaddressoftheServertheControlleristocommunicatewith

Procedure
1. CheckthepowerandEthernetcablingtotheCardaxFTController3000arecorrectly
installed.
2. LocateDIPswitch2(SW2)ontheCardaxFTControllerPCB.
Setswitch 2toON (closed).
3. SwitchonpowertotheCardaxFTController3000. TheredLED(D1)flashesinthe
followingsequence:
(ThesequencecompletesfairlyquicklybutitisimportantyouensuretheLEDfinishes
indicatingthe“normalrunning”sequence.)
- TheredLEDflashesfairlyfastduringstartup.
- TheredLEDflashesthreetimespersecond.TheCardaxFTController3000
iswaitingforitsIPaddress.
- WhentheCardaxFTController3000hasreceiveditsIPnumber,theredLED
flashestwicepersecond. ThisindicatestheCardaxFTController3000is
waitingfordatabaseinformationtobedownloadedfromtheServer.
- Wheninitialisationiscomplete,theLEDflashesapproximatelyoncepersecond
indicatinganormalrunningsequence.
Note: Thesectiontitled“RunLED”(laterinthischapter)detailsthedifferentmeanings
ofthevariousflashsequences.
4. Setswitch2toOFF(open).
Dial-up/Serial setup details
RefertotheDial-up/Null-ModemInitialisationsectionofChapter23intheCardaxFT
CommandCentreUserGuide,fortheprocedure.
Optical tamper detectors
ThefrontopticaltamperdetectorwillsensewhentheCabinetdoorisopened.
TherearopticaltamperdetectorwillsenseiftheCabinetisremovedfromitsmounting
position.
WhentheCardaxFTController3000isre-poweredafterservicingandisoperatingcorrectly
itwillinitialisetheopticaltamperdetectors.
Thefollowingprocedurewillensurethattheopticaltampersensorsareinitialisedcorrectlyon
power-up.
1. Switchonthe13.6VDC± 15% supply tothe CardaxFT ControllerPCB.
2. CloseandlocktheCardaxFTControllercabinetdoorwithinthreeseconds,(i.e.before
theControllergoesintoathreeflashornormalrunningstate).
Note: TheCabinetdoormustremainclosedforatleast5secondsfortheinitialisationof
theopticaltamperdetectorstobecompleted.

Removing the PCB
FollowthestepsbelowtoremovetheCardaxFTControllerPCBfromtheCardaxFT
Cabinet:
1. EnsurethatthepowertotheCardaxFTController3000isswitchedoffand
disconnected.
2. Followingfullantistaticprecautions,disconnectallcablesfromtheCardaxFT
ControllerPCB. Remembertolabeleachcableasyouremoveit.
3. Removethe9xM3securingscrewsthatholdthePCBontotheCardaxFTCabinet
fixingstandoffs.
4. CarefullyliftthePCBclearoftheCabinet.
Replacing the PCB
1. To replacetheCardaxFTControllerPCB,reversetheaboveprocedure.
Note: YoumusttheninitialisetheCardaxFTController3000asdetailed
earlierinthisInstallationNote.
