The manual forms part of this product. Should you ignore the
operating and safety instructions, the warranty will be void. Keep
this guide for future reference.
Limited Warranty
This product is warranted by CARSON against manufacturing
defects in materials and workmanship under normal use for 24
months from the date of purchase from authorised franchisees
and dealers. In the event of a product defect during the warranty
period, return the product along with your receipt as proof of
purchase to any CARSON store. CARSON will, at its option, unless
otherwise provided by law:
(a) Correct the defect by repairing the product without charging
for parts and labour
(b) replace the product with one of the same or similar design; or
(c) refund the purchase price.

All replaced parts and products, and products on which a refund
is made, become the property of CARSON. New or reconditioned
parts and products may be used in the performance of warranty
services. Repaired or replaced parts and products are warranted
for the remainder of the original warranty period. You will be
charged for repair or replacement of the product made after the
expiration of the warranty period.
The Warranty does not cover:
• damage or failure caused by or attributable to acts of God,
abuse, accident, misuse, improper or abnormal usage, failure
to follow instructions, improper installation or maintenance,
alteration, lightning or other incidence of excess voltage or
current;
• damage caused by losing control of your car;
• any repairs other than those provided by a CARSON
Authorised Service Facility;
• consumables such as fuses or batteries;
• cosmetic damage;
• transportation, shipping or insurance costs; or
• costs of product removal, installation, set-up service
adjustment or reinstallation
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also
have other rights which may vary according to the country of
purchase.

1. Description CG-1
This gyro system is a compact stabilising system which detects
position changes thanks to a Piezo sensor. Via integrated
electronics a downstream servo is controlled in order to
counteract the position changes. Due to the compact
construction, this system is ideal for a small electric helicopter.
It can, however, also be used with small airplane models.
• The gyro can optionally be operated in the normal mode or in
the so-called heading lock mode.
• In the normal mode the downstream servo is only corrected as
long as the rotary movement of the model is identified by the
gyro.
• In the heaing lock mode the downstream servo is corrected
only as long as the original starting position (angular position)
of the gyro has been achieved again.
• The gyro effect can be set and can be adjusted either via the
sender or the built-in rotation controller.

2. Safety instructions
These safety instructions are not only for the protection of the
product but also for your own safety and that of other people. This
is why you should read this section very carefully before using the
product!
In the case of damages which are caused due to failure to observe
these operating instructions, the guarantee will expire. Liability for
any and all consequential damage is excluded!
Nor do we assume liability for damage to property or personal
injury caused by improper use or the failure to observe the safety
instructions! The warranty is voided in these cases.
Normal wear and tear and accident and crash damages are also
excluded from the guarantee and warranty.
The unauthorized conversion and/or modification of the product
is inadmissible because of safety and approval reasons (CE). In
this case the operating licence lapses, which can have particularly
serious repercussions in the event of a claim.
When handling batteries, speed controllers or electric motors with
propellers and rotor blades, please ensure that there are no body
parts or objects in the area of rotation or suction of the propeller
or rotor.
Never exceed the technical limits specified for the CG-1 gyro.
The product is not a toy and should be kept out of reach of
children under 14 years of age!
The product must not get damp or wet.
Do not leave packaging material unattended. It may become
dangerous playing material for children.

3. Before you start
• Install the gyro CG-1 in your model so that oscillation,
vibrations and agitation can be ruled out as best possible.
• Check the function safety of your model and of the remote
control system. Pay attention to visible damages such as
broken plug-in connections or damaged cables.
• Before each operation, control the settings of the trim slider
at the transmitter for different steering directions and, if
necessary, set them.
• Always switch the transmitter on first. Only then may the
receiver with connected gyro be launched. Otherwise there can
be unforeseeable reactions of the model or of the servo.
• Check the gyro CG-1 before every flight for correct function
and secure fit in the model. A loose and disconnected gyro
makes the model uncontrollable.
4. During or after operation
• Do not take any risks! Your own safety and that of your envi-
ronment is solely down to you being responsible when dealing
with the model.
• Improper operation can cause serious damage to people and
property! Therefore, during operation, ensure a sufficient safety
distance to persons, animals and objects.

• Always leave the remote control (transmitter) turned on, as
long as the model is in operation.
Always switch your model off first, before switching off the
remote control sender.
• In case of a fault or a malfunction, correct the fault first then
re-start the model.
• Do not expose your model, the gyro and the remote control to
direct sunlight or excessive heat for longer periods of time.

Attention important!
Do not launch your gyro, until you have read the following
sections in full and know what must be observed during
installation and operation. This is the only way to prevent
malfunctions or even damage.
The gyro is connected to the receiving output (1) for the tail servo.
The tail servo itself is connected to the gyro system (3) (picture
page 9).
This means that the gyro is switched between the receiver and
the tail servo.
In addition, the gyro is connected to another receiver output
”GAIN“ (2) via which the sensitivity regulation is later carried out.
6. Installation of the CG-1 Gyro system
When installing the gyro, ensure that you select a place of instal-
lation where the gyro is well protected from vibrations and heat
fluctuations (picture page 11).
In most of the cases the manufacturers of the respective model
set the exact place of installation for the gyro.
If this is not the case on your model, select a place of installation
which is close to the main rotor shaft (7).
The installation platform (8) where you fit the gyro must be in a 90
degrees angle toi the main rotor shaft.
Use the supplied, two-side adhesive foam pad (9) for fitting only.
The stabilisation axle (10) of the gyro runs in parallel to the main
rotor shaft.

Attention!!!
The settings controller and the slide switches must be easily
accessible from the side. The cables connected to the gyro must
be laid so that they cannot be caught in rotating parts of the
mechanics or be worn out on sharp edges.

7. Installation of the
tail servo
Attention important!
In order to achieve best possible effect
of the gyro, the servo lever (12) and the
control rods (13) must be in a 90-degree
angle to one another (neutral position).
The installation of the tail servo (11) and
the tail rotor are normally precisely set
out in the documents of the model
helicopter.
The distance (A) is based on the model
size and is normally stated in the
documents of the model helicopter.
Observe an absolutely smooth and at
the same time free-of-clearance control
of the tail rotor. Because only if the
smallest of servo deflections trigger a
control reaction on the model, the gyro
can work to its optimum.

8. Connecting the CG-1 Gyro
Connect the gyro with a 3-pin connection cable (1) to the receiver
output for the tail servo.
The connections are:
Brown = minus
Red = plus
Orange = pulse
Connect the 1-pin normal input (yellow) of the gyro (2) with a free
channel which is controlled on the sender with a sliding controller.
What connections on the receiver have to be exactly assigned
depends on the remote control manufacturer and can be read up
in the documents of the system used.
The tail rotor servo (11) is connected directly to the gyro. Ensure
correct polarity of the servo socket (14). The pulse line (15) of the
servo cable (depending on servo manufacturer yellow, white or
orange) must point upwards.

Warning!
If the gyro is connected as described above, it works in dual
mode. The installation of the gyro sensitivity and the selection of
the operating typet (standard or heading lock) are provided via
the sender.
If the 1-pin normal input of the gyro (2) is not connected, the gyro
works in single mode. The gyro sensitivity is set on the settings
controller of the gyro (see page 9, Pos. 5) and the gyro works in
the heading lock operating mode only.
9. Operating the CG-1 Gyro
Before you launch the gyro for the first time, all tail mixed
programs programmed in the sender, such as revolution mix or
gyro hide mixer, must first be deactivated.
The gyro has no function switch. The power supply is provided via
the 3-pin plug connection which is connected to the receiver.
As soon as the receiving system is switched on, the gyro is in
operation.
The steering stick for the tail function and the associated trim
lever must be in central position, before you operate the reception
system and the gyro.
The tail rotor should then be aligned so that the helicopter has no
tendency to turn to the side (factory settings) in hovering flight.

11. Setting the gyro sensitivity ”GAIN”
(dual mode)
The sensitivity of the gyro CG-1 system is 0 - 100% and can be
set best with a roll bar (dispenser). For the sensitivity settings of
0%, the stabilising effect of the gyro is deactivated and at 100%
the highest gyro sensitivity achieved.
With the help of the sliding controller (sensor) on the sender, not
only the gyro CG-1 sensitivity is set, but at the same time the
operation mode switched. For this reason, the central position of
the sliding controller (50% sensor route) corresponds to a gyro
sensitivity of 0%.
10. Initialisation of the CG-1
The gyro must be initialised for a correct function. This internal
coordination is carried out automatically after switching on the
receiving system and lasts approx. 2-3 seconds. During this
time the model and the gyro must not be moved or turned. After
successful completion of the initialisation, the LED display (4)
lights up.
If, for instance, the controll signal from
the receiver is missing, the LED display
lights up after initialisation. In this case the
receiving system must be switched off, the
cause of the error removed and the gyro
restarted.

Depending on the control direction on the sensor, the sensitivity
of the gyro is increased in normal or in heading lock mode. The
respective end position of the sliding controller (0% or 100%
sensor route) corresponds always to a maximum gyro sensitivity.
For a sensor position of 0-50%, the gyro works in normal mode
and for a sensor position of 50-100%, the gyro works in ”heading
lock” mode.
Instead of a sliding controller, a toggle switch can also be used
for switching the operating mode. In this case the required setting
values must be programmed in the ATV menu (route settings of
the control sensor). In conjunction with a flight condition swit-
ching, an individual gyro sensitivity can thus be programmed for
hovering flight, sightseeing flight and artistic flight.
In order to to check whether the gyro works in the correct mode
for the respective sensor settings, first launch the sender. Then
switch on the receiver with gyro and connected servo. The sliding
controller should be set so that the gyro works at about 75% of
sensitivity in ”normal mode”. The sensor route is then at approx.
12.5%.

Warning!
If you use an electric model helicopter, disconnect the engine from
the regulator in order to prevent uncontrolled running of the rotors.
If now the tail of the model helicopter is quickly turned to the side,
the servo has to perform a turning. If the servo lever immediately
returns to the central position (neural position) after every manual
turning movement, the gyro operates in ”normal mode”.
If the servo lever only returns to the central position (neutral
position) when the tail was turned back to the initial position, the
gyro is working in heading lock mode. In this case, change the
function orientation of the sliding controller in the reverse menu
on the sender.
Attention important!
If the servo lever runs in the ”heading lock” operating
type until the stop, the sender trimming (subtrim) must be
set so that the servo lever is nearly stable in the central
position or runs only very slowly to the stop.
Tip:
The required settings of gyro CG-1 sensitivity for the initial flight
depends very strongly from the respective model and from the
servo used. The better quality and faster the connected servo is,
the greater the maximum flyable gyro sensitivity. For the first flight
you should set a sensitivity value of approx. 75%.

12. Setting gyro sensitivity
”GAIN” (single mode)
Gyro CG-1 sensitivity in single mode is set
on the gain controller of the gyro (5).
Use a suitable screwdriver. If the controller
is turned right to the left, the gyro sensiti-
vity is 0%. If the controller is turned right to
the right, the gyro sensitivity is 100%.

13. Setting the effective direction of your
CG-1
For the gyro to prevent the helicopter model from turning around
the vertical axis (rotor shaft), it must always produce a tail servo
control command which creates an opposing turn. Launch the
sender and then turn on the model.
If the tail is now pressed by hand to the left, when looking from the
top, the tail servo must perform a control movement which would
turn the tail back to the right. The turning movement of the servo
must go in the same direction as when the sender of the control
stick for the tail function is actuated to the left (drawing A).
If the tail is now pressed by hand to the left, when looking from the
top, the tail servo must perform a control movement which would
turn the tail back to the right. The turning movement of the servo
must go in the same direction as when the sender of the control
stick for the tail function is actuated to the right (drawing B).

If the rotation direction for the tail servo created by the gyro CG-1
runs precisely against the directions as illustrated, you can change
the rotation direction of the tail servo.
The switch reacts to the rotation direction created by the gyro
only. The control pulses, created by the sender, remain unaffected
and are passed on to the tail servo 1:1. The switch for the servo
rotation direction (see page 18, (6)) is on the right side of the gyro.
Depending on the requirement, you can set the rotation direction
from A (normal) to B (reverse). Take a small settings screwdriver to
operate the switch, if required.

14. Checking the gyro sensivity in flight
Warning!!!
Before you start the model on the airfield, allow the gyro CG-1 to
warm up to ambient temperature with a receiving system turned
on. Switch the received off after approx. 5 minutes and then back
on again.
Your gyro CG-1 system is now operational.
First hover your model on the spot. Then turn the control stick for
the tail function slightly and let it go suddenly so that it bounces
around the neutral position. If the tail catches itself without
swinging, the gyro sensitivity can be increased. If, however, the
tail swings out further, the sensitivity is set too high. The best
sensitivity is achieved if the tail is just about to swing.
Please note:
• The maximum adjustable gyro sensitivity depends on the
rotation speed of the main rotor.
• The higher the set main rotor speed, the lower the maximum
flyable gyro sensitivity.
• At a gyro sensitivity of less than 70%, the servo lever (see
page 12, pos. 12) should be reduced or the control rods
installed further to the centre on the servo lever.
• At a gyro sensitivity of less than 100%, the servo lever (see
page 12, pos. 12) should be increased or the control rods
installed further to the outside on the servo lever.
