Mostaccidentsorinjuriesthatoccurinworkshopsaretheresultofnon--observanceofsimpleandfundamentalsafety
regulations.
Forthisreason,INMOSTCASESTHESEACCIDENTSCANBEAVOIDED:byforeseeingpossiblecausesandcon-
sequentlyactingwiththenecessarycautionandcare.
Accidentsmayoccurwithalltypesofvehicle,regardlessofhowwellitwasdesignedandbuilt.
Acarefulandjudiciousservicetechnicianisthebestguaranteeagainstaccidents.
Preciseobservanceofthemostbasicsafetyruleisnormallysufcienttoavoidmanyseriousaccidents.
DANGER:Nevercarryoutanycleaning,lubricationormaintenanceoperationswhentheengineisrunning.
GENERAL
•Carefullyfollowspeciedrepairandmaintenanceprocedures.
•Donotwearrings,wristwatches,jewellery,unbuttonedorloosearticlesofclothingsuchas:ties,tornclothing,
scarves,openjacketsorshirtswithopenzipsthatmayremainentangledinmovingparts.
Itisadvisedtowearapprovedsafetyclothing,e.g:non--slipfootwear,gloves,safetygoggles,helmets,etc.
•Donotcarryoutrepairoperationswithsomeonesittinginthedriver’sseat,unlessthepersonisatrainedtechnician
whoisassistingwiththeoperationinquestion.
•Operatethevehicleandusetheimplementsexclusivelyfromthedriver’sseat.
•Donotcarryoutoperationsonthevehiclewiththeenginerunning,unlessspecicallyindicated.
•Stoptheengineandensurethatallpressureisrelievedfromhydrauliccircuitsbeforeremovingcaps,covers,valves,
etc.
•Allrepairandmaintenanceoperationsmustbecarriedoutusingextremecareandattention.
•Servicestepsandplatformsusedinaworkshoporintheeldshouldbebuiltincompliancewiththesafetyrulesin
force.
•Disconnectthebatteriesandlabelallcontrolstoindicatethatthevehicleisbeingserviced.Blockthemachineand
allequipmentwhichshouldberaised.
•Donotcheckorllfueltanks,accumulatorbatteries,norusestartingliquidwhensmokingornearnakedames,
astheseuidsareinammable.
•Brakesareinoperativeifmanuallyreleasedforrepairormaintenancepurposes.
Insuchcases,themachineshouldbekeptconstantlyundercontrolusingblocksorsimilardevices.
•Thefuelnozzleshouldalwaysbeincontactwiththellingaperture.Maintainthispositionuntilllingoperations
arecompletedinordertoavoidpossiblesparkscausedbytheaccumulationofstaticelectricity.
•Onlyusespeciedtowingpointsfortowingthetractor,connectpartscarefully.Makesurethatallpinsand/orlocks
aresecuredinpositionbeforeapplyingtraction.
Neverremainnearthetowingbars,cablesorchainsthatareoperatingunderload
•Transportvehiclesthatcannotbedrivenusingatraileroralow--loadingplatformtrolley,ifavailable.
•Whenloadingorunloadingthevehiclefromthetrailer(orothermeansoftransport),selectaatareacapable
ofsustainingthetrailerortruckwheels,rmlysecurethetractortothetruckortrailerandlockthewheelsinthe
position.
•Electricheaters,battery--chargersandsimilarequipmentmustonlybepoweredbyauxiliarypowersupplieswith
efcientgroundinsulationtoavoidelectricalshockhazards.
•Alwaysusesuitablehoistingorliftingdeviceswhenraisingormovingheavyparts.
•Takeextracareifbystandersarepresent.
•Neverpourgasolineordieseloilintoopen,wideandlowcontainers.
•Neverusegasoline,dieseloilorotherinammableliquidsascleaningagents.Usenon-ammablenon-toxicpro-
prietarysolvents.
•Wearsafetygoggleswithsideguardswhencleaningpartswithcompressedair.
•Limittheairpressuretoamaximumof2.1bar(30.5psi),accordingtolocalregulations.
