1. Introduction to Product
AIS Research and Rescue Transmitter (AIS-SART) is a new type of research-and-rescue positioning
device developed on the basis of radar research-and-rescue transponder (radar SART).
Under emergency conditions, the person in distress can send AIS standard format of distress signal
to the vessel nearby, base station, satellite, etc. The signal contains information about the precise
location and identity, which improves possibility that the person in distress can be saved.
VAI8 Research and Rescue Transmitter is transmitting equipment on the basis of AIS technology.
There is a built-in GPS satellite positioning receiver. It is a new generation of marine life saving
product adopted modular design with low power consumption, small volume, light weight, and high
reliability.
2. Product Composition
VAI8 mainly consists of these parts: stay bar, bracket, support (used for installation on the wall),
AIS-SART main engine, etc, as shown in the figure below.

3. Product Installation
Please keep the safe distance of over one meter away from the magnetic compass.
AIS-SART is generally installed at the two sides or on the top of navigation bridge. The position for
installation shall be easy for approaching, maintenance, and manual start without obstacles around,
waste gas, chemical pollutants, mechanical shock, and crashing waves.

4. Operation
Activation Operation
Pull out the red lock pin and turn the swivel to the position of “ON”. At this time, the indicator
shines along with startup sound; AIS-SART starts to work.
After startup, try best to hold the main engine high to get the further operating range. From the
position of main engine, the open sky can be seen, which is easy for GPS location.
When shutting down it, turn the swivel to the position of “OFF” and insert red lock pin. At this time,
the indicator will stop shining along with shutdown sound.
Self Testing Operation
Find a place where the open sky can be seen, turn the swivel to the position of “TEST” and wait for
GPS location. In about 30 seconds to 120 seconds, the self testing result will be shown.
If self testing is normal, the green indicator will shine for 10 seconds, or the red indicator will shine
for 10 seconds and then automatically shut down.
During self testing, the transmitted signal can also be seen on the AIS detector.

6. Product Maintenance
Regular Checking
Carry out a self testing operation one month before going on a long journey each time. If it is
abnormal, please contact the manufacturer for maintenance to make sure the product is in good
condition before travelling.
Carry out performance inspection once a year, which will be done by authorized testing
organization.
Battery Replacement
The cycle for replacing the lithium battery installed inside the research and save transmitter is 5
years. The transmitter shall be used appointed battery. Please contact manufacturer or authorized
supplier for replacement.
The expiry date of replaced battery shall be clearly marked on the product case.
Battery Disposal
Improper battery disposal may cause dangers such as scald or burst into flames. Don’t arbitrarily
dismantle, squeeze, pierce, and short out the battery, or put it into water or fire. Please follow the
local rules to dispose the waste battery.

7. Product Warranty Card
If the product is under the condition of normal use, the warranty period for whole machine is
one year.
In 7 days from the day when the product is sold, if there is performance fault, the consumer can
choose to return, change or repair product.
In 15 days from the day when the product is sold, if there is performance fault, the consumer
can choose to change or repair product.
If there are following circumstances, it is not in the warranty range:
Exceed the expiry date of warranty
The product is damaged because it isn’t uses, maintained and kept according to the
requirement of instructions.
The product is damaged because it is dismantled by the repairer who doesn’t bear the
responsibility for warranty maintenance.
The product is damaged due to force majeure.
