INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
GAS SAFETY (INSTALLATION ANti USE) REGULATIONS
In your own interest and that of safety, it is the law that all gasappliances are installed
by competent personsin accordancewith the Gas Safety (Installation and Use)
Regulations 1984. If the appliance is installed in a compartment, do not obstruct any
purpose provided ventilation openings, and do not usefor storagepurposes,
‘GAS LEAKS OR FAULTS’
If a gasleak or fault is suspected,turn off the appliance and consult your local
Gas Region or Service Engineer.
The model no. and serial no. of this heater are on the data badgewhich is found
hanging at the rear left hand sidebeneath the appliance. These
when ordering replacement parts.
TO LIGHT THE HEATER
a) Turn on both water taps on appliance and/or remote
taps when fitted.
Check that water flows freely through the appliance.
Close both taps on appliance and/or remote hot tap if
fitted.
b) With all taps closed, light the pilot by turning the gas
control knob through $ to the position marked 4
(fig. 1), a click should be heard and the pilot should
now be alight. In the pilot, which can be seenthrough
the window, does not light, leave the knob in this
position for a few moments, then return the knob to the
off position 0 and repeat.
c) When the pilot is alight, wait 10secondsthen turn the
gascontrol knob anti-clockwise slowly to the full gas
position $ (fig. 2).
The heater is now ready for use,and will light when the
hot tap is opened.
If the pilot goesout, wait at leastone minute and repeat
operations a)to c).
TO TURN OFF FOR LONG PERIODS
If the heater is not required to be usedfor some time the
pilot can beturned off. Turn the gascontrol knob clockwise
to the position asshown in tig. 3 (i.e. off 0).
TO TURN OFF FOR SHORT PERIODS
Turn the gascontrol knob clockwise to h
USING THE HEATER
Light the pilot aspreviously described and turn the gas
control knob’ anticlockwise to the position shown # (tig. 2).
Turn on hot water tap (left hand side adjacent to red dot).
Adjust temperature selector knob (fig. 4) on the water
heater to the required temperature. To obtain hotter water,
turn the temperature selector clockwise.
The cold water tap (adjacent to the blue dot) is on the right
hand side.
NOTE : Do not usewater hotter than is necessary,it is
preferable to reducethe temperature of the water
by turning the temperature selector towards the
left rather than adding cold water to the very hot
water. This will reduce the possibility of the
formation of scalein the heat excchanger.

FROST PRECAUTIONS
If there is any risk of freezing, e.g.,if IeII unused during
winter, the heater should bedrained.
a) Turn gascontrol knob to the off position 0.
b) Turn off the cold water supply to the heaterat the tap (A
- fig. 5).
c) Open hot water tap and cold tap if fitted.
d) Remove the drain plug (B - tig. 5), which also retains the
water governor and spring, and drain the water into a
basin.
Take care to retain in a safeplace the plug, governor and
spring.
To restart the heater replace the drain plug complete with
the governor and spring and open the cold water supply tap
(A - fig. 5). Check that water flows through the heaterbefore
lighting the pilot.
SAFETY FEATURES
Your Celt Star is fitted with an atmosphere sensingdevice
which must not be altered in any way.
1) If the air in the room in which it is situated becomes
depleted of oxygen the pilot light will be extinguished ,
automatically.
2) If the flue outlet is obscured or the heating body becomes
blocked again the pilot will beautomatically
extinguished.
NOTE: If the pilot is extinguished during use the room
should be ventilated before attempting to relight.
If the pilot will not operate in a satisfactory manner, seek
advice from British Gas or other competent person
CLEANING
To clean the casewipe with a damp soft cloth. DO NOT
USE ABRASIVE CLEANERS.
SERVICE
To ensurethat the heater continues to work eficiently and
hasa long life, it is important that it is serviced annually.
Ask your installer or local gasregion for details of a regular
service scheme.
This water heater hasbeentestedand certified to EN26.
CLEARANCES AROUND YOUR
WATER HEATER
These minimum clearancesmust be maintained for
operation and servicing.
Top : 600 mm (24”). Bottom below case: 50 mm (2”)
Sides: 75 mm (3”). Front : 250 mm (10”)
