the handle and lift the lid only by using the lid lever. Exercise care when opening the lid while the Hot Pot is still hot or

Care and Maintenance of Your Chef’sChoice®Hot Pot
•TheChef’sChoice®Hot Pot is designed specifically for heating water. Do not attempt to heat anything other than
water in the Hot Pot. (With liquids and mixtures of low water content, the automatic shut-off switch may not
function properly and the Hot Pot may be damaged.)
•Beforecleaningmakesurepowerswitchisturnedoff,thenremoveHotPotfrombaseunit.Unplugthebaseunit.
•AlwayswaituntiltheHotPothasfullycooledtoroomtemperaturebeforecleaning.
•Toavoidscratching,onlycleantheoutsideoftheHotPotwithasoftcloth.Neveruseabrasivecleanser.
•TheinterioroftheHotPotcanbecleanedbydecalcicationatregularintervals(seebelow).
•RinseouttheHotPotatregularintervalsandafterextendednon-use.Donotimmerse.
•DonotattempttocleananypartoftheHotPotorbaseinthedishwasher.
Decalcification
In areas with a high lime content in the water supply, the Hot Pot should be decalcified at regular intervals.
•FilltheHotPotwithasolutionof16oz.water,add6tablespoonsofvinegar,andbringtoaboil.
•Whenprocessiscomplete,rinsetheHotPottwicewithcleanwater.
•Commerciallyavailableliquiddecalciersmayalsobeused.Followtheinstructionsprovidedwithdecalcier
by its manufaturer.
Regular decalcification will keep the Hot Pot operating at peak performance and electrical efficiency. It will also
extend the life of the Hot Pot.
Over time slightly brownish stains may appear inside of the Hot Pot. This is not rusting of the Hot Pot, it is referred to
as boiler scale and is a result of high iron content in the water supply. These stains can be easily wiped away with a
cloth or mild abrasive. Rinse Hot Pot thoroughly.
Boil-dry Protection
This Hot Pot is equipped with a self-resetting “boil-dry” switch which protects the appliance in the event of
improper use. If heating is accidentally started without water or if the water evaporates completely, the appliance
is automatically switched off by a “boil-dry” protection. Try to avoid allowing the Hot Pot to “boil-dry”.
If the “boil-dry” protection is actuated, disconnect the power cord and allow the Hot Pot to cool down for a few
minutes (CAUTION: Small amounts of hot water remaining in the Hot Pot can cause scalding injuries) and then refill
with cold water. The Hot Pot will now operate normally.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed,
including the following:
1. Read all instructions carefully.
2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Always lift by handle.
3. To protect against fire, electric shock and injury to persons, do not immerse cord, plug, Hot Pot™
or power base in water or other liquid.
4. Close adult supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children, handicapped
persons or the infirm.
5. Always unplug the power base when not in use in order to avoid accidental electrical shock.
Allow the Hot Pot™to cool before cleaning.
6. Do not operate with a damaged cord, or plug, or after a malfunction has occurred or the Hot Pot™has
been damaged in any manner. Return Hot Pot™to the EdgeCraft Corporation, Service Department for
examination, repair or adjustment.
7. The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the EdgeCraft Corporation may result in fire,
electric shock or injury to persons.
8. Do not use Hot Pot™outdoors.
9. Do not let power cord hang over edge of table or counter or touch hot surfaces.
10. Always place the Hot Pot™on the base before plugging in the base or turning on power. After use turn
power switch to off position or make sure it has switched off automatically before attempting to unplug
Hot Pot™base.
11. Do not use this Hot Pot™or the power base for other than intended use.
12. Do not attempt to plug any device other than designated Hot Pot™into the power base.
13. Do not place on or near hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
14. Do not operate Hot Pot™unless lid is fully closed.
15. Never fill Hot Pot™while it rests on the power base.
16. Do not turn power on unless Hot Pot™contains sufficient water.
17. CAUTION: Unplug IMMEDIATELY if water spills onto bottom of Hot Pot™, onto power base or into
connector, to avoid electrical shock.
18. CAUTION: To avoid the risk of being scalded never fill Hot Pot™above the “MAX” line shown on the water
level gauge. For the same reason, extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing
hot water or other hot liquids. Always pour slowly and carefully.
19. Only operate Hot Pot™on a dry, flat, non-slip surface.
20. For household use only.

to prevent boiling water from splashing out through the spout. If overfilled and water flows down outside of
Hot Pot and onto its bottom, disconnect the power cord from the power outlet, empty pot, dry base and refill
Hot Pot carefully before setting onto base unit. Water on the bottom of the Hot Pot can lead to an electric shock
(see further instructions.)

extension cord is used the marked electrical rating of the extension cord should be at least as high as the electrical
rating of the Hot Pot; and match the configuration of the plug. The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not
drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
