This High Energy Ignition System contains DANGEROUS AND POTENTIALLY LETHAL VOLTAGE. To
avoid the risk of serious injury from electric shock, always follow the safety precautions listed

Disconnect power before servicing the equipment.
When energized, do not join or separate any connection to the equipment.
Do not apply power to the equipment without an igniter attached or the igniter port
appropriately capped.

2.0 System Specifications
2.1 Description of Equipment
The Chentronics® SureSparkTM BD-5 is a High Energy Ignition System for use with Biodiesel fuels directly
while operating in a wide range of environmental conditions.
2.2 General Arrangement
The SureSparkTM BD-5 system model number has a high voltage output connector (ARP 670 TYPE 2F),
and the input connector is a DC conxall connector. The output and input connectors are supplied
separately.

2.3 Description of Equipment Protective System
The internal electronics assembly is silicone encapsulated inside an aluminum enclosure.
The assembly must be installed in a Non-Hazardous Area.
2.4 Equipment Conditions of Use
The SureSparkTM BD-5 system equipment is subject to the following conditions of use and limitations:
1. The equipment shall not be subjected to a source of heating or cooling (process
temperature) greater than +85°C or less than -25°C.
2. A switch, fuse, or circuit breaker to separate the device from the mains must be
included in the installation. The switch or circuit-breaker must be suitably located and
easily reached. It is recommended that it be located near the exciter enclosure.
3. The equipment's power connections shall not be joined or separated when the
equipment is in use (powered).
4. The equipment's igniter connections shall not be joined or separated when the
equipment is in use (powered).
5. The equipment shall not be operated without an igniter attached.
6. The igniter, extension rod, or base rod must be secured to the grounded building frame
or chassis using a metal fixture.

into the output connector (ARP 670 TYPE 2F) on the exciter and tighten it to 150in-lb.

Thread the other end of the harness into the base rod and tighten it to 150in-lb. The base rod will be
between the harness and the ignitor, as shown in the next step.

3.3 Ignitor Tip Installation
Thread the base rod into the ignitor and use the flats to wrench tighten.
3.4 Power Cable Installation
The input power connection utilizes a keyed ¼-turn connection. Align the key, press the connector into
place, then turn the connector's outer shell ¼-turn to engage.

Igniters can make a loud "snapping" or "popping" noise when fired. Anticipate this noise and warn
others to expect it before operating the equipment. Alert others in the area before operating
equipment.
