Important Safeguards
When using electrical appliances, in order to
reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or
injury to persons, basic safety precautions
should always be followed, including the
following:
For Your Safety
Read all instructions carefully, even if you feel
you are quite familiar with the appliance.
NEVER INSERT A KNIFE OR ANY OTHER UTENSIL
INTO THE TOASTER. This may damage the
mechanism and cause a safety hazard. Contact
with the elements could result in electrical
shock. To free broken or burnt toast, unplug the
toaster and turn it upside down.
To protect against the risk of electric shock
DO NOT IMMERSE appliance in water or any
other liquid.
This appliance is not intended for use by
children or infirm persons without
supervision. Never leave an appliance
unattended when in use.
Young children should be supervised to
ensure they do not play with the appliance.
Always switch off and unplug the appliance
from power outlet before cleaning. To
unplug, grasp the plug and pull from power
outlet. Never pull cord. Never carry the
appliance by the cord.
Do not operate any appliance with a
damaged cord or plug, after the appliance
malfunctions, or is dropped or damaged in
any manner.
Do not let cord hang over edge of table or
counter, or touch hot surfaces. Do not
operate or place any part of this appliance
on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in
a heated oven.
Do not touch hot surfaces. Only lift toaster
by end panels. Do not touch the metal body
of the toaster during or immediately after
operation, as this surface will be hot.
Do not cover bread slots while toasting.
Do not operate toaster without bread.
Allow to cool completely before cleaning
and storing away.
Operate on a level surface. Operating on
sinks, drainboards or uneven surfaces should
be avoided.
Do not try to heat metal foil packages in the
toaster.
Bread may burn. Therfore toasters must not
be used near or below curtains and other
combustible materials. They must be
watched.
Do not use any appliance for anything other
than its intended use. This product is
intended for household use only.
Do not use outdoors.
Do not attempt to repair or disassemble the
appliance. There are no user serviceable
parts.
COMPULSORY WARNING
If the supply cord is damaged it must be
replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent
or a similarly qualified person to avoid a hazard.
This product has not been designed for any uses
other than those specified in this booklet.
Save These Instructions
Your Chief 4 Slice Toaster
Congratulations on the purchase of your new
Chief 4 Slice Toaster.
Before using your new appliance, it is important
that you read and follow the instructions in this
Use & Care booklet, even if you feel that you are
quite familiar with this type of appliance.
Find a place and keep this booklet handy for
future reference. Attention is particularly drawn
to the section dealing with “Your Safety”.
This appliance has been designed to operate
from a standard domestic power outlet. It is not
intended for industrial or commercial use.
Before First Use
Carefully unpack the 4 Slice Toaster and
remove all packaging material.
Before using for the first time, wipe over with
a soft damp sponge or cloth.
How To Use Your
4 Slice Toaster
Remove the blades and wash in warm soapy
water, rinse and dry thoroughly.
Wipe over the body of the Toaster with a soft
damp sponge or cloth.
DO NOT immerse the electrical housing in
water or any other liquid.

Plug the toaster into the power point and
switch on.
Adjust colour control knob to desired toast
colour setting. Start at medium ‘3-4’ and
adjust knob to lighter ‘1-2’ or darker ‘5-6’
depending on the type of bread, and your
personal preference.
Place bread into bread slots, and press lever
down to locked position.
(Note: the lever will not stay down if the
power is not switched on.)
When toasting is completed, the toast will
automatically pop up and the toaster
switches off automatically.
Toasting may be interrupted during the cycle
by pushing the stop button. Toasting will
stop, and the toast will pop up.
Allow toaster to cool for 15-20 seconds
before beginning the next toasting cycle. This
permits the electronically controlled
thermostat to reset for the next toasting
cycle.
Care and Cleaning
Switch off, and unplug toaster from the
power outlet.
Allow to cool before cleaning.
Wipe over exterior of toaster and cord with a
soft damp sponge or cloth.
Do not use abrasives or strong household
cleaners as they will damage the finish.
The crumb tray will need to be cleaned
occasionally. The crumb tray is held in place
on the bottom of the toaster by a captive
screw.
Hold the toaster over the sink or rubbish bin.
Loosen this screw with your fingers, and
open the crumb tray.
Brush the crumbs from the tray using a small
brush or cloth.
Close the tray and tighten the screw, with
your fingers.
DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN THE INSIDE OF THE
TOASTER, AS THIS MAY DAMAGE THE
HEATING ELEMENTS. WATER AND LIQUIDS
MUST NEVER ENTER THE TOASTER.
Warranty
The benefits conferred by this warranty are in
addition to all implied warranties, other rights
and remedies in respect of the product which the
consumer has under the Trade Practices Act and
similar State and Territory Laws.
The original purchaser of this CHIEF product is
provided with the following warranty subject to
the following conditions.
Mistral International Pty Ltd warrant this product
for a period of 12 months from the date of
purchase for all parts defective in workmanship
or materials. This product or defective parts will
be replaced free of charge.
WARRANTY CONDITIONS
1. This warranty is only valid for appliances
used according to the manufacturer’s
instructions.
2. This appliance must not be modified or
changed in any way.
3. Connection must be to the voltage
requirements as specified in the ratings label
located on the product.
4. The manufacturer does not accept liability
for any direct or consequential damage, loss
or other expense arising from misuse or
incorrect installation and operation of the
appliance.
5. Warranty will only be given where proof of
purchase is provided, e.g. original invoice.
6. Not designed or warranted for industrial or
commercial use.
