Preface
With “Honesty, Precision and Innovation” as our motto, City-Net
Technology Inc. is destined to develop and manufacture the best and most
complete HomePNA products, as well as to provide our customers with the
best customer service and technical support. The CN-1210 User’s Manual
contains a detail description of the CN-1210 functions, specifications,
installation, and product applications in easy-to-understand and
user-friendly manners.

v1 3
Product Features and Specifications
Specifically designed for ease of network installation, the CN-1210
is equipped with ten 1 Mbps HomePNA ports and two 10/100 Base-TX
ports to interface with an existing telephone system while
simultaneously attending to a Fast Ethernet.
Conventional office Ethernet LAN installation has become more
complicated, more expensive and more time consuming. If the distance
between two nodes is greater than 100 meters, then costly fiber optics
connections will have to be used.
To avoid these problems, City-Net Technology developed the
CN-1210, a switch that combines both HomePNA and Ethernet
technologies in a box, eliminating the need for additional devices. No
software is required -simply connect the telephone cables into the
HomePNA ports and use the10/100 Base-TX ports to link to your
additional Ethernet network. It is easy as plug & play. It also preserves
the beauty of the building (since no new wiring is required) and the
transmission distance can extend to 500 ft (150 m).
Product Features:
?? Ten (10) HomePNA ports.
?? Two (2) 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet Ports which can
automatically detect either 10 Base-T or 100 Base-TX.
?? Plug And Play –no new wires for HomePNA ports.
?? Takes at most one hour to Ethernet network a building, with
no additional wiring.

v1 4
?? Frequency division multiplexing for uninterrupted
simultaneous voice service.
?? Easy conversion between HomePNA and Ethernet networks.
?? Full and half duplex Ethernet modes supported.
?? Most suitable for SOHO, business or home use.
?? Transmission speed greater than 1Mbps, which is 18 times
faster than a 56K digital device.
?? Compatible with Windows 95/98/2000/NT 4.0 Operating
Systems
?? Has less distance restriction (500 ft or 160 m) than regular
Ethernet (100 m).
?? Can simultaneously run phone line communication (voice
service), broadband xDSL Internet Access and Network Data
Transmission (uploading/downloading data files) without being
interrupted.

1HomePNA port indicators:
LINK: When both ends of HomePNA are connected, the LINK
indicator is lit.
COL: COL indicator is lit when HomePNA signals collide.
ACT: When CN-1210 is transferring the data, either sending or
receiving, the ACT indicator will be and stay lit. When
the data is done transferring, the CN-1210 will
automatically check if there is more data, and the ACT
light will be flashing. ACT light will be off when data
transmission is completely done.

v1 8
2Ethernet port indicators:
LINK/ACT: When both ends of Ethernet are connected, the
LINK/ACT light will be lit. When there is data being
transmitted, the LINK/ACT light will be flashing.
100/10: When the communication speed is at 100Base-TX rate, the
100/10 indicator light is lit. When the speed is at
10Base-T rate, the indicator light is not lit.
.FDX/COL: When the FEX/COL indicator is lit, it is in the full duplex
mode, otherwise, it is in half duplex mode. When the
light is flashing, it means the Ethernet signals collide.
3Power Indicator (POWER)
4Reset: When there is a change of the port connection or when the
unit is down, the “Reset” button switch can be pushed to
restart the CN-1210 in 30 seconds.

2. Installation and Applications
??Select a Suitable Location
Just like any other electronic product, this product also runs best under
within certain suitable temperature and humidity ranges. When selecting a
location for the CN-1210, the following environmental conditions are the
best one when selecting a suitable location for the CN-1210 product:
* Suitable Operating Temperature: 0OC –50OC
* Suitable Humidity: 10% -90% non-condensing
