General Notes
1. Alwaysfollowgoodlaboratorypracticeby ensuringsubstancesbeingheatedoffernoriskof a
hazard (explosion,implosionorreleaseof toxicorflammablegases)orthat thesehavebeen
addressed. Whenheatingsubstanceswhereliberationof gasesoccurssuitableextractionshould
beused.
2. Ifthis product is not usedin accordancewiththeseinstructions,thenbasicsafety protection
is affected.
3. TheMSrangeis classifiedas Class 0(IEC519)withregardstoovertemperatureprotection.
4. Themains supplycord fittedto this productis aheatresistanttypeandshould bereplacedby
an equivalent type.
5. It is recommendedtheunitsareconnectedtothemains supply withRCDprotection.
6. Beforeusinganycleaningordecontaminationmethodexceptthoserecommended, checkwith
yourdistributorthattheproposedmethodwill not damagetheequipment.
7. Donot movetheunitwhenin useorwhenconnectedto an electricalsupply.Allowto coolfor
at least 30 minutesbeforemovingandwhenREDhot indicatoris extinguished.
8. Donot movewithcontainersonthetopplate.
9. Liquidcan spill ifcontainersareoverfilledandliquidis stirredathighspeed. Alwaysbuild
stirrerspeedslowly andneverstirmorerapidly than neccessary.
10. Neverplaceacold glass vesselonto ahotplatewhichis already hot.

80%fortemperature31°Cdecreasingto50%at 40°C.Theproduct is designedforlaboratory use.
Theunit mustbesitedaway fromdraughtsanddirectsunlight asboth
affecttemperaturecontrol.

Removethemagneticstirrerfromitspackaging.Anydamagepleasenotifyyourdealerandretain the
packagingoverthewarranty period. Fitthemains lead. Suppliedwitharetortpointassemblywhich
can befittedtotherearof theunit ifrequired.

TheMSHrange areClass 0 (IEC519 -Part 2)-withreferencetoover
temperaturecondition.These magnetic stirrersaredesignedthatif the
temperaturecontrolsystemfailsinuse theheatingplatewill notexceed
itsmaximumtemperature.
TheMSHrange arefittedwithHOTindicatorwarningwhenthehob
temperatureexceeds60°C.
Themotorisfittedwithoneshot overtemperaturesafetycut out.
TheMSHrange uses superbrightindicatorsforeasyviewingthestatus
equipment:stirring,heating,mainsandwarningHOT condition.
Arange ofaccessoryspillage potsalsoavailable.

1.TurntheCliftonMagneticStirrerON"I".
2.Turnthespeeddialtolowest setting.
3.Placeafollowerinto aflaskrequiringmixing.Placeflaskin middleof
thehotplate.
Notes:
a.Different lengths of followersgivedifferent stirringcharacteristics-
try severalsizesforbest mixingcontrol.
b. Ensurethefollowercoatingdoesnot react withliquidbeingstirred.
4.Turnthedialof thespeedcontrolslowly tothedesiredamount of
stirring.

Cleaning
General
TheHotplatetopshould bewipedclean withdampclothsoakedin anon-abrasivecleanser/clean-
ingsolutiontoremovedebris andcontamination.TheHotplatewill operatebetterifclean andlast
considerably longer.
Important -please followthese instructionstoavoidpossibledamage
totheunit,otherwise affectingitsperformanceandwarranty.
Alwaysdisconnect theproduct fromtheelectrical supply before
cleaningandallowtheunit tocooldowntoambient room
temperature.
Theproduct MUSTNOT bedecontaminatedby steamsterlization.
CleaningExternalPaintedSurfacesfeaturing“Anti-bacterialPaint Finish”
Themagneticstirrershould becleanedatregularintervalswipingexternalsurfaceswithaclothor
spongesoakedin warmsoapywaterwithamild detergent.All surfacesshould becleanedusingasoft
clothorsponge.
Donotunderanycircumstances use strongsolventsorsolutionscontaini
ngChlorinatedHydocarbons,Esters,Ketonesorabrasivecleanersorpolish
on thepaint finishotherwise itdamages thebuilt
inanti-bacterial properties.
AllpaintedsurfacesonCliftonrangeproductsfeaturesan “Anti-bacterial
paint finish”identifiedwiththis authenticatinglogoontheunit.
This“Anti-bacterialpaintfinish” inhibitsthegrowthofbacteria.It has
beentestedbyindependentspecialisttest housessuchastheLawLabora-
tories(in theUK)usinginternationallyrecognizedtestmethodsand
proventobeeffectiveversus awiderangeofbacteria speciesincluding
Escherichia coliandStaphylococcus aureus(MRSA).
Werecognisehygieniccoatingsarepartof acontrolledapproachto acleaner
workingenvironment.Withinitsformulationanactiveingredientwithprovenanti-bacterialproper-
tiesis boundintothepaintfinish.Theefficacyofthepaintfinish appliedtotheCliftonrangeis
maintainedoveritslifetime,astheanti-bacterialagent isintegralwithinthepaint.
Inalaboratory environmentitmakesthisonelesssourceofcontamination,contributingto
essentialclean workingpractices.Abenefitof suchapaint finish can leadto areductionin
cleaningschedulesbecausesurfacesaremoreprotectedandimprovesprotectionbetweenclean-
ing.Unlikedetergents“Anti-bacterialpaintfinish” doesnot offeran instantaneous action,butis
intendedforlong-termgeneralprotectionagainst bacterialgrowth.
Moistureonthepaintedsurfaceis necessary forthebacteriumtoabsorbtheagentandbeaf-
fectedby it.Thecoatingisthereforelessactivein very dryconditions,but dependent upon
relativehumidity,moisturein theatmospheremaintains activity.Areaswheremoistureistrapped
arealsoareasthat normally aredifficulttocleanandwherebacteria proliferatebut theseareas
aremost activefortheanti-bacterialcoatingimprovingthedefenceagainstbacterialgrowth.

Decontamination ofEquipment
Cliftonlaboratory equipmentcan bedecontaminatedafterspillageorcontact withpotentially HIV

Theultimatehighlevelsurfacedisinfectant,dissolveVIRKONin water,providing
asafeworkingsolutionwithafaintlemonodor.It has provenefficacyagainst
bacteria (includingmycobacteria), viruses,sporesandfungiin avariety of inde-
pendenttestsusingdifferentprotocols.Presentsnoserious longtermhealth
risksto staff –obviatingtheneedforcostlyventilationequipmentandhealth
monitoring.Alsoprovideshighleveldisinfectionof laboratoryequipmentand
instrumentswhereautoclavingis neitherpracticalnornecessary.Formorede-

IsVirkonsolutioncorrosive?Virkonsolutionrequiresonly10 minutescontact timetobeeffec-
tivesolong-termexposureisnotnecessary andtherefore will notcorrodemostmaterials.Care
should betakenwithStainless steelwaterbathtanks,thesesurfacesshouldnotbeaffected
however,itisimportantthat generallyyoudonot leaveVirkonsolutionincontactwithmetal
surfaces“FORLONGERTHANISNECESSARY”.
