Soil,air,andwaterqualityisimportantforallindustriesandlifeingeneral.Whenlegislationdoesnotyetrulethe
treatmentofsomeofthesubstancesthatadvancedtechnologyrequires,soundjudgmentshouldgoverntheuseand
disposalofproductsofachemicalandpetrochemicalnature.
Familiarizeyourselfwiththerelativelegislationapplicabletoyourcountry,andmakesurethatyouunderstandthis
legislation.Wherenolegislationexists,obtaininformationfromsuppliersofoils,lters,batteries,fuels,anti-freeze,
cleaningagents,etc.,withregardtotheeffectofthesesubstancesonmanandnatureandhowtosafelystore,use,
anddisposeofthesesubstances.YourCNHdealercanalsoprovideassistance.
Helpfulhints
•Avoidtheuseofcansorotherinappropriatepressurizedfueldeliverysystemstolltanks.Suchdeliverysystems
maycauseconsiderablespillage.
•Ingeneral,avoidskincontactwithallfuels,oils,acids,solvents,etc.Mostoftheseproductscontainsubstances
thatmaybeharmfultoyourhealth.
•Modernoilscontainadditives.Donotburncontaminatedfuelsandorwasteoilsinordinaryheatingsystems.
•Avoidspillagewhenyoudrainuidssuchasusedenginecoolantmixtures,engineoil,hydraulicuid,brakeuid,
etc.Donotmixdrainedbrakeuidsorfuelswithlubricants.Storealldraineduidssafelyuntilyoucandisposeof
theuidsinaproperwaythatcomplieswithalllocallegislationandavailableresources.
•Donotallowcoolantmixturestogetintothesoil.Collectanddisposeofcoolantmixturesproperly.
•Donotopentheair-conditioningsystemyourself.Itcontainsgasesthatshouldnotbereleasedintotheatmosphere.
YourCNHdealerorair-conditioningspecialisthasaspecialextractorforthispurposeandcanrechargethesystem
properly.
•Repairanyleaksordefectsintheenginecoolingsystemorhydraulicsystemimmediately.
•Donotincreasethepressureinapressurizedcircuitasthismayleadtoacomponentfailure.
Batteryrecycling
Batteriesandelectricaccumulatorscontainseveralsubstancesthatcanhaveaharmfuleffectontheenvironmentif
thebatteriesarenotproperlyrecycledafteruse.Improperdisposalofbatteriescancontaminatethesoil,groundwater,
andwaterways.CNHstronglyrecommendsthatyoureturnallusedbatteriestoaCNHdealer,whowilldisposeofthe
usedbatteriesorrecycletheusedbatteriesproperly.Insomecountries,thisisalegalrequirement.

Foreachadjustmentoperation,selectadjustingshimsandmeasureindividuallyusingamicrometer,thenaddup
therecordedvalues.Donotrelyonmeasuringtheentireshimmingset,whichmaybeincorrect,ortheratedvalue
indicatedoneachshim.
ROTATINGSHAFTSEALS
Forcorrectrotatingshaftsealinstallation,proceedasfollows:
•beforeassembly,allowthesealtosoakintheoilitwillbesealingforatleastthirtyminutes.
•thoroughlycleantheshaftandcheckthattheworkingsurfaceontheshaftisnotdamaged.
•positionthesealinglipfacingtheuid;withhydrodynamiclips,takeintoconsiderationtheshaftrotationdirection
andpositionthegroovessothattheywilldeviatetheuidtowardstheinnersideoftheseal.
•coatthesealinglipwithathinlayeroflubricant(useoilratherthangrease)andllthegapbetweenthesealinglip
andthedustlipondoublelipsealswithgrease.
•insertthesealinitsseatandpressdownusingaatpunchorsealinstallationtool.Donottapthesealwitha
hammerormallet.
•whilstinsertingtheseal,checkthatitisperpendiculartotheseat;oncesettled,makesurethatitmakescontact
withthethrustelement,ifrequired.
•topreventdamagingtheseallipontheshaft,positionaprotectiveguardduringinstallationoperations.
O-RINGSEALS
LubricatetheO-RINGsealsbeforeinsertingthemintheseats,thiswillpreventthemfromoverturningandtwisting,
whichwouldjeopardisesealingefciency.
SEALINGCOMPOUNDS
Applyoneofthefollowingsealingcompoundsonthematingsurfaceswhenspecied:SILMATE®RTV1473,or
LOCTITERTV598orLOCTITE®INSTANTGASKET587BLUE.Beforeapplyingthesealingcompound,preparethe
surfacesasdirectedonproductcontainerorasfollows:
•removeanyincrustationsusingametalbrush.
•thoroughlyde-greasethesurfacesusingalocallyapprovedcleaningagentsuchassafetysolventorbrakeparts
cleaner.
SPAREPARTS
Onlyuse"CNHOriginalParts"or"CNHParts".
Onlygenuinesparepartsguaranteethesamequality,durationandsafetyasoriginalparts,astheyarethesame
partsthatareassembledduringstandardproduction.Only"CNHOriginalParts"or"CNHParts"canofferthis
guarantee.
Whenorderingspareparts,alwaysprovidethefollowinginformation:

Toavoiddamagetotheelectronic/electricalsystems,alwaysobservethefollowing:
1.Nevermakeorbreakanyofthechargingcircuitconnections,includingthebatteryconnections,whentheengine
isrunning.
2.Nevershortanyofthechargingcomponentstoground.
3.Alwaysdisconnectthegroundcablefromthebatterybeforearcweldingonthecombineoronanyheader
attachedtothecombine.
•positiontheweldergroundclampasclosetotheweldingareaaspossible
•ifweldingincloseproximitytoacomputermodule,thenthemoduleshouldberemovedfromthecombine
•neverallowweldingcablestolayon,nearoracrossanyelectricalwiringorelectroniccomponentwhilewelding
isinprogress
4.Alwaysdisconnectthenegativecablefromthebatterywhenchargingthebatteryinthecombinewithabattery
charger.
NOTICE:Ifweldingmustbeperformedontheunit,eitherthecombineortheheader(ifitisattached),thebattery
groundcablemustbedisconnectedfromthecombinebattery.Theelectronicmonitoringsystemandchargingsystem
willbedamagedifthisisnotdone.
Removethebatterygroundcable.Reconnectthecablewhenweldingiscompleted.
WARNING
Batteryacidcausessevereburns.Batteriescontainsulfuricacid.Avoidcontactwithskin,eyesorclothing.
Antidote-EXTERNAL:ushwithwater.INTERNAL:drinklargequantitiesofwaterormilk.Followwithmilk
ofmagnesia,beateneggorvegetablesoil.Callphysicianimmediately.EYES:ushwithwaterfor15minutes
andgetpromptmedicalattention.
