Tesla Wall Connector itself does not measure current, for this a MID kWh-meter is
needed. It can be supplied with Maxem.

Fusing charging station
Maxemisacontrolsystemthatregulatestheloadofthechargingstation.Therefore,itcan
be calculated according to the NEN 1010 with a lower equal time factor*. Maxem makes
surethatthechargingstationislessloadedwhenthereismorechargeinthehouse.The
chargingstationcanthereforebefusedtoavaluehigherthannormal,butnothigherthan
thethresholdvalueofthemainpowersupplyterminal.

230V power supply from Maxem
Maxem measures the power supply as follows:
• Amperage:divisiblecurrentcoilsmeasurethecurrentthroughthephasewires.
• Voltage: internal voltmeter in Maxem with the voltage from the 230V power supply.
For a correct measurement it is necessary to know from which phase Maxem is fed. In
MaxemitisstandardlyinstalledthatthesupplyisonPhase1(L1).

02 - Connecting to power supply
ConnectthecablesplittertoMaxemportCT1,intendedforthemainpowersupply
terminal.
Option 3.1 - Connecting current coils to solar panels
Openthemeterboxusingintendedtools.
Click the suppliedcurrent coils around the L1phase wire of the main power supply
terminal. Connect this power supply coil to L1 of the cable splitter.
ConnectthecablesplittertoMaxemportCT2,intendedforthesolarpanels.
Turnothemainpowersupplyterminalofthefusebox.
03 - Connecting solar panels
RepeatthesestepsforL2andL3incaseofa3-phaseconnection.
ClickthesuppliedcurrentcoilsaroundtheL1phasewireofthesolarpanels.
ConnectthecurrentcoiltoL1ofthesuppliedcablesplitter.
RepeatthesestepsforL2andL3incaseofa3-phasesolarinverter.
Makesurethecurrentcoil(s)areconnectedintherightdirection.

Option 4.1 - Connecting KEBA charging station
Install a circuit breaker or earth leakage circuit breaker at the maximal
power available. See p. 10.
Follow the installation instructions of the charging station. These
instructions can be found in the installation manual of the charging
station.
Place a suitable UTP (CAT5 or CAT6) cable from the charging station to Maxem and
clenchRJ45connectorsonbothsides.
ConnecttheUTPcabletotheEthernetportofthechargingstationandtheETHport
of Maxem.
It is advisable to test the network cable with the help of a cable tester.
04 - Connecting charging station
Connect the RS485 cable to the kWh-meter as follows:
• PortC:Greencore
• PortB:Whitecore
• PortA:Browncore
Place the kWh-meter on a DIN-rail in the installation cabinet.
Option 3.2 - Connecting MID kWh-meter to solar panels
Connect the RS485 cable to RS1 port on Maxem.
Connect this in such a way, that it measures the output of the solar inverter.

Follow the installation instructions of the charging station. These
instructions can be found in the installation manual of the charging
station.
Place a suitable UTP (CAT5 or CAT6) cable from the charging station to Maxem and
clenchRJ45connectorsonbothsides.
ConnecttheUTPcabletotheEthernetportofthechargingstationandtheETHport
of Maxem.
It is possible to update the charging station rmware. This can be done via ICU
Connect, as soon as the charging station is online. ICU or Cohere can assist you with
this.

Install a circuit breaker or earth leakage circuit breaker for each charging
station at the maximal power available. See p. 10.
Follow the installation instructions of the charging station. These
instructions can be found in the installation manual of the charging
station.
Place a suitable UTP (CAT5 or CAT6) of the Wall Connector to Maxem. (To prevent
electromagneticinterferenceattheRS485connection,itisrecommendedtouseFTP

Place a suitable UTP (CAT5 or CAT6) of the EV-Box to Maxem. (To prevent electromagnetic

After successful installation, Maxem sends a current limiting value to the charging
station. In case of non-successful installation, this is not the case. This results in
OVERLOAD OF THE POWER SUPPLY. Cohere should therefore always give OK for a
successful installation.

• ControlwhethertheconnectedUTPcableiscorrectlyconnectedwiththehelpofa
cable tester.
• MakesurethataDHCPconnectioncanbemadetoMaxemfromthenetwork.
• MakesurethatMaxemcandoDNSrequeststhroughthenetworktoconnecttothe
backoce.
• ItispossibletoplaceMaxeminaDMZ(demilitarizedzone)onaseparateVLAN.
• RestartMaxembyturningitoandon.AnyproblemswiththeIPaddressingcanthus

Autocongurationisnotsuccessful
• RS485connectedchargingstation:controlwhethertheRJ10(4P4C)connectoriswell
crimpedintotheRSportofMaxem.SeeAnnex3howtocrimpRJconnectorsthebest.
• EthernetConnectedchargingstation:MakesurethatgreenandblinkingorangeLED
in the charging station are on for an active connection with Maxem. If this is not the
case,thereisapossibleerrorintheinstalledUTPcable.
• Restartthechargingstationbyputtingthevoltageoandonagain.
• Makesurethecorrectrmwareisplacedonthechargingstationandthatis
compatible with Maxem. An employee of Cohere can help.
Thechargingstationisnotdetectedornotcorrectlydetected
• TurnoMaxem.Waitfor10seconds.
• Then turn on Maxem. If there is a charging station, switch the group of the charging
stationoandonagain.Theautocongurationwillrunagain.

Annex 1 - Troubleshooting
Thecardoesnotstartduringcharging
• Performarebootofthegroupofthechargingstationinthemeterbox(turnothe
group,waitfor10seconds,andthenturnonthegroupagain).Makesurethatthe
chargingcableisnotconnectedtothecar.
• An authorization problem for ICU charging stations may occur, which prevents the
chargingstationfromgivinga“permission”tostartachargingsession.Anemployee
of Cohere can help.
The measurements of the power supply are not logical
• Incasethesolarpanelsareavailable,turnothegroup.
• Makesurethepowersupply(socket)ofMaxemisconnectedtoL1.
• Makesurethateachcurrentcoilisconnectedtothephasecorrespondingtothe
labels of the cable splitter.
• Makesurethecurrentcoilsaredirectedcorrectly.Thearrowonthecurrentcoil
followsthecurrentdirectionofthenettothegroupsofthehouse.
• MakesurethecablesplitterisconnectedtoMaxemCT1port.

same length.
Stripapproximately3cmoftheoutercoverwithasharp(Stanley)knife.Theindividual
coresshouldnotbedamaged.
