ChemicalHandling and AccidentPrevention
Misuseofalmostanychemical maycreatea
hazardofsometype.Generallyphotochemicals
arenotanymoredangerousasmostofthe
regularcleaning agents.
However,thereisalwaysaresidualrisk.
When handlingchemicalsobservethe lateral
procedures.

Wastefromphotographicprocessing normally
containsdiluted chemicals.Thesechemicals
should be collected anddisposedinaccordance
withlocalenvironmentalcodes.Dumping
chemicalsintoadrainsystemcouldleadtoa
pollution problem.Contactyourlocalwater
treatmentandsewerdistrictauthoritiesbefore
disposing chemicals.
All plumbingmustcomplywithlocal and
nationalcodes.The DRAINmustbe made of
chemicalresistantand non-corrosivematerial.
UsePVCorequivalent.
Exhaust,Temperature and Humidity
It isnecessary toensureproperventilation
inordertoreceivegood processing results.
Roomtemperaturesbetween 18-23 °C
(65 -80 °F)witharelativehumidity
between 35 %and 75 %areidealfor
photographicprocessingand working.
The NDTFilmDryerisacomplexmachinewith
movingpartssuchasthe geartrainand media
transfercomponents.It usesphotoprocessing
chemicalswhichareirritating toeyes,lungsand
skin.High voltage isused topowerthe
filmprocessor.
The dryercompartmentproducesheat.
·Highvoltage maycauseelectricshocks,burns
oreven death.
·Handsorfingersmaybepinchedorinjured by
moving partsorwhen handling heavyparts.
·Dryercompartmentheatmayignite
combustiblematerialsandcausefires.
·Eyes,skinand lungsmaybeirritated byphoto

Priorremoval ofthetop cover,carry outthe
following steps:
1. Train operatorsoftheNDT Dryer.
2. Switchoff themain power switch
("0"-position)and secure against
restartbyunplug thePower cord
(see picture below).

Inthe eventofan accumulation ofliquiddueto
backup,overfloworothermalfunctionsofthe
drain associated withthe NDTFilmDryercall a
plumberorothercontractortocorrectthe
problemwiththe drain.
Colentaassumeanyresponsibilityorliability
whatsoeverforthe serviceabilityofanydrain
connected tothe NDTFilmDryer.
Suchdrainsarethe sole responsibilityofthe
customer.
Drains mustbe madeofchemicallyresistant
and non-corrosivematerial.
ChemicalHazards
Chemicalscanbe thesourceforerrors,
contaminatethewastewater,irritateskinor
eyes.
Spillsmustbe cleaned up immediatelyas
follows:
1. Preventthe spilled chemicalsfrom
entering awastewaterdrain.
2. Cleanup the spill withamoistmop
orrag.
CAUTION!
Whenhandling chemicals,especiallyfixer,
wear protective clothing, safetygogglesand
rubber gloves.
Ifplateprocessorchemicalsmakecontact with
the eyes,rinsethemthoroughlywithlotsof
water.Ifirritation persists,consult aphysician.

wastewaterfromtheclean up according
toenvironmentalregulationsand locals
codes.
4. Avoid anyinhalationofchemicalsasthis
isdangeroustohealth.

purposebuilt panelisrequired(optionalaccessory).
4.2ELECTRICALSUPPLY
All electricalconnectionsmustmeetnational safetyrequirements.Correctfusesand electricalrequirement
can betaken fromthe processorspecification sheet.
4.3WATERSUPPLY
Thereisnowfixed watersupplyrequired tooperatethedryer,itisrecommendedtohaveacoldwater
supplywith2.5metersofhosing tofacilitateeasycleaning ofthe racksand tanks

6MAINTENANCE
Thefilmdryer isdesignedtoproduce consistenthigh qualityproduction withtheminimumof
maintenance.
Regularmaintenanceminimizesthe chancesforequipmentfailureand loss ofprocessing quality.
Aswell atrained person hastobe responsibleforperforming themaintenanceofthe filmdryerandmust
be familiarwiththeoperation and function ofthe unitaswell.
6.1DAILYMAINTENANCE
*) Cleaning feedgrid
*) Beforestarting production itisrecommendedtofeedsomecleaning films
toremoveanyovernightresidue.
6.2WEEKLYMAINTENANCE
*) Wipe downtheexternalsurfacesoffilmdryer/enclosures/panels
withawetclothtoremoveanychemical/dirtdeposits.
*) Checkthe O-ringslocated atthewaterdraintupeaswellasatthe watersupplybottle
(fromtimetotimesomeslidingmeans(Vaseline,..)shouldbe applied tothe O-rings.
*) Inspectand clean the washtankand intermediatewaterrinsdrains.Ifalgaespresentthenthey
should be removed,insuchacasewesuggesttouseaproven algae controlsystem.

6.3MAINTENANCEEVERY2-4MONTH
Period issubjectto filmdryer usage.
Good processing qualityand the reliableoperation ofafilmprocessorisdependentuponregularand
carefulcleaning.
Every3-6months,thechemicalsinthetanksshouldbe drained. Achemicalcleaning ofthe processing
tanksand washtankisrecommended.Alwaysfollowsafetywarningsasdescribedinsection 1
when cleaning the NDTDryer.
Priortocarrying outanymaintenance:
-switchoff the poweratthe mainpowerswitch(position"0")ensuring it can notbe accidently
switched back on additional,disconnetthe mainpowersupply(Powercord)ofthe
NDTFilmDryer!
*) Switchoff the mainpowerswitchofthe filmdryerfirst(position "0").
*) Removethe top coverofthefilmdryer.
*) Drainthe washtank,useaspongetoclean-removeall deposits
*) RemoveTransportrack assemblyand checkitcarefullyforany:
-damaged orwornbearings
-loosescrews
-scratched orbentfilmguides
-plasticflat springsindeveloperbottomunderturn.
*) Checkthe transportassembleofanykindofalgesordeposits-removeincase.
*) Checkthe ventilationsystem-removeanykindofdust. Usewarmwaterand asponge todoso.
*) Checkall rollers-anypossibledamagesmustbereportedtoyoursalesagent.
*) Checkall externalhoseconnectors(outside ofthe Dryer) and fittingsforpossibleavailableleaks.
*) Putthe drain tube back inposition (check the O-ringused there)
*) Putthe transportassemplyback inposition -makesurethe gearsareinthe rightposition
*) Fillwashtank.
*) Re-install thetop coverand switchon the NDTDryer.
*) Putthe watersupplybottleback inposition andcheck the O-ringused there.
Eventuallyputsomesliding means(Vaseline,..)tothe O-ring.
