1 GENERAL INFORMATION
The RA-5200 Tri-Band Remote Radio System (hereinafter called “optical repeater” or “system”)
provides flexible and scalable solution of multi-band, multi-operator coverage extension applications,
such as citywide enhancement, highway, canyons, campus, underground tunnels, airports, convention
centres, etc.
This system consists of Master Optical Unit (MOU) RA-5200-D, Remote Optical Unit (ROU) RA-5200-
O and Remote Radio Unit (RRU) RA-5200-R.
The MOU accommodates slide-in modules that can support up to four RRUs through Fiber Optical
Unit (FOU). The wideband optical link of MOU and ROU can support multiple systems over optical
fiber as well as the O&M communications between ROU and RRU.
The low signal transmission loss of optical fiber is applicable for long distance transmission. This
system can support the optical transmission of up to 15dB signal transmission loss. There is no
isolation problem between TX and RX antennas, which means customer can select the antenna
flexibly according to the real situation, such as directional or omni-directional antenna.
Remote configuration and surveillance is possible through Comba’s OMC remote control and
monitoring system.
Characteristics of RA-5200 are as follows:
•Broadband optical system: 35MHz for GSM900 band, 75MHz for DCS band, 60MHz for
WCDMA2100 band.
•High output power with high linearity, which supports multiple carrier operation and ensures the
signal source is of good quality.
•RF transmission over Fiber Distributed Antenna System – suitable for large scale indoor & outdoor
coverage enhancement.
•Local Operation and Maintenance Terminal (OMT): operating status and parameters can be set or
monitored by OMT PC locally. And the point-to-point setting and inquiry between MOU and RRU is
realizable through the integrated wireline/wireless modem, which makes it convenient for on-site
configuration.
•Operation Maintenance Center (OMC): system working parameters and communication
configuration can be set or inquired remotely through the integrated wireline modem. If alarm is
generated, the equipment will dial up to OMC automatically in the mode of SMS or datalink.
•MOU accommodates slide-in modules that allows flexible and scalable system configuration
•The ROU and RRU is designed for all-weather outdoor installation - waterproof, damp-proof and
omni-sealed (IP55).

1.1 RA-5200 SALEABLE ENTITY
All products are described by a ‘Part Number’ that describes the Saleable Entities.
Part Number can be recognized as an alphanumeric code seen on the equipment label, depending on
the product variant, part number can be derived by constructing it from a group of Saleable Entitles:
Part Number Examples for this product are:

Fig 5: ROU+RRU system diagram
As shown in the above figures, the separate or combined signals as GSM900, DCS1800 and WCDMA
from the BTSs are received and converted into optical signals after amplification in the MOU, and then
the optical signals are transmitted to the ROU via optical fiber. At ROU, the optical signals are
converted into RF signals for transmission to the RRU. After being amplified, the signals are
transmitted to the customer’s mobile phone via service antenna.
The signals received by the customer’s mobile phone are received by the RRU and transmitted to the
ROU. At ROU, the RF signals are converted into optical signals, and then via UL optical fiber, the
signals are transmitted to the MOU, which then converts the optical signals into RF signals. After
amplification, the signals are transmitted back to the BTS.
In-band communication over optical fiber allows the ROU and RRU to be managed with a single
connection onto the MOU; this is achieved by using the (Frequency Shift Keying) FSK modem.
