INTRODUCINGYOURMONITOR
Pleaseread thisbriefguidecarefullybeforeyoutrytouseyourmonitor.This
manualshowsyouhowtoconnectthemonitoranduseitinvariousoperating
modes.Italsoexplainsthepicturecontrolsandgivesinstructionsforthein-
stallation,useandserviceofthe1902A.
TheCommodore1902Aisa full-colordualmonitor,meaningitcandisplay
computeroutputineither40-or80-columnscreenwidths.Somecomputers,like
theCommodore64,displayscreenoutputina 40-columnformat.Others,like
theCommodorePC,requirean80-columnscreen.TheCommodore128can
displayonbothscreenwidths.Youcanselecttheoperatingmodeyouwantwith
theflickofa switch.Theswitchsettingdependsonthecomputeryouhave
connectedtothe1902Amonitor.
The1902Acanbeusedinthreeoperatingmodes:two40-columnandone
80-column.Thetwo40-columnmodesareCompositeVideo(CVBS)andSeparated
(LCA)Video.Theone80-columnmodeisdigitalRGBI.Thefollowingchartshows
recommendedmonitoroperatingmodesbycomputer.Dependingonyourcom-
puter,you'llfindthatcertainoperatingmodesgivebetterdisplayswhileother
modesmaynotevenproducea picture.

femalepinconnections,usetheseparated(LCA)videooutputandcorrespon-

nectoronthecomputerconnectionendanda sixpindinmaleconnectoronthe
monitorconnectionend.
Ifthecomputer'saudio/videoporthasfivefemalepinconnections,usethe
compositevideooutputanda correspondingcablenotsuppliedwiththemonitor

USEDATTHESAMETIME.Themonitorisdesignedinsucha waythata video
cassetterecorder(VCR)orvideodiscplayercanbeconnectedtotheComposite
video(CVBS)monitorportwhilea computerisconnectedtotheSeparatedVideo
(LCA)monitorport.BothdevicesCANNOTbepoweredonatthesametime.If
youdo,youwillseeeithera scrambledpictureornopictureatall.Eitherthe
VCR(orvideodiscplayer)ORthecomputercanbeturnedonatanyonepar-
ticulartime,butnotboth.
The1902Amonitorfeaturesa 13"screen(measureddiagonally)andoperates
ontheNorthAmericanTelevisionStandard(NTSC).
Ifyouhaveproblemswithyoumonitorthatarenotcoveredinthismanual,see
yourCommodoredealerora qualifiedtechnician.
Thelightningflashwitharrowheadsymbol,withinan
equilateraltriangleisintendedtoalerttheuserof
thepresenceofuninsulated"dangerousvoltage"
withintheproduct'senclosure,thatmaybeofsuffi-
cientmagnitudetoconstitutea riskofelectricshock
topersons.
Theexclamationpointwithanequilateraltriangleis
intendedtoalerttheuserofthepresenceofimpor-
tantoperatingandmaintenance(servicing)instruc-
tionsintheliteratureaccompanyingtheappliance.

Whenusingthesesocketsbeforeconnectingtheequipment,placethe
RGB/Compositeswitchintherelevantposition.
CAUTION:
Thismonitorgeneratesandusesradiofrequencyenergyandifnotinstalledand
usedproperly,thatis,instrictaccordancewiththemanufacturer'sinstructions,
maycauseinterferencetoradioandtelevisionreception.Ithasbeentypetested
andfoundtocomplywiththelimitsfora ClassB computingdeviceinaccor-
dancewiththespecificationsinSubpartJ orpart15ofFCCRules,whichare
designedtoprovidereasonableprotectionagainstsuchinterferenceina residen-
tialinstallation.However,thereisnoguaranteethatinterferencewillnotoccur
ina particularinstallation.Ifitdoescauseinterferencetoradioortelevision
reception,whichcanbedeterminedbyturningtheequipmentoffandon,the
userisencouragedtotrytocorrecttheinterferencebyoneormoreofthefollow-
