Desktop Personal Computer

This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for
a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. For more
information, refer to the
Compaq Reference Library CD. To reduce the
risk of electrical shock, connect your personal computer only to a
grounded (earthed) electrical outlet that is easily accessible at all times.

Choose Minitower or Desktop Configuration
The Compaq Evo D500 Ultra-Slim Desktop personal computer can
be used in either a minitower or desktop configuration. To use it in the
minitower configuration, align the hole at the base of the personal
computer with the post and thumbscrew in the stand. Tighten the
screw to secure the personal computer to the stand. This adds stability
and helps to ensure proper airflow to the internal components.

✎The optional Legacy Module provides serial, parallel, PS/2 mouse, and PS/2 keyboard
connectors. For more information, refer to the Hardware Reference Guide on the Compaq
Reference Library CD.
✎You must turn off the computer and unplug the power cord before installing or removing a
MultiPort module.

Step 3: Connect External Devices
Connect the monitor, mouse, and keyboard cables. If you use a
network, connect the network cable to the Ethernet RJ-45 Connector.
For the location of connectors on the rear panel, refer to “Step 2:
Identify Rear Panel Components” on page 3. For easy setup, Compaq
has color-coded the cables and rear panel connectors.
ÅWARNING: To reduce the risk of electrical shock, fire, or damage to the
equipment, do not plug telecommunications/telephone connections into
the network interface controller (NIC) connectors.
PS/2 mouse and keyboard connectors are available only on Evo D500
Ultra-Slim Desktop personal computers equipped with the Legacy
Module. A USB mouse or keyboard may be connected to any of the
available USB connectors.
ÄCAUTION: Do not add additional, optional hardware devices to your
personal computer until the operating system is successfully installed.
Doing so may cause errors and may prevent the operating system from
installing properly.

Step 4: Connect the Power Cords
Connect the power cords as shown below. The power cord may be
pressed into the slot provided on the rear panel cover or Legacy
Module (if installed) to keep it out of the way.
ÅWARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock or damage to the equipment:
■Do not disable the power cord grounding plug. The grounding plug
is an important safety feature.
■Plug the power cord into a grounded (earthed) electrical outlet that
is easily accessible at all times.
■Disconnect power from the personal computer by unplugging the
power cord from either the electrical outlet or the personal computer.
