We strongly recommend that this tool not be modiﬁ ed and /or used for any

application other than that for which it was designed. If you have any questions

relative to its application, do not use the equipment until you have consulted us and

we have advised you.

1. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAR

Don’t use electrical tools in damp

or wet locations. Don’t expose your tool to rain. Keep the work area well lit.

Don’t use tools in the presence of ﬂ ammable gases or liquids. Atomized ﬂ uids

like paints and solvents can be highly ﬂ ammable. Do not spray them near this

equipment.

3. KEEP CHILDREN AND BYSTANDERS AWAY.

All children should be kept away

from the work area. Don’t let them handle machines, tools or extension cords.

Visitors can be a distraction and are difﬁ cult to protect from injury.

4. STORE IDLE EQUIPMENT.

Store equipment in a dry area to inhibit rust. Equip-

ment also should be in a high location or locked up to keep out of reach of

children.

5. GUARD AGAINST ELECTRIC SHOCK.

Do not use the compressor without

connection to a properly grounded outlet of the speciﬁ ed voltage and fuse

protection. Grounded tools must be plugged into an outlet that itself is properly

installed and grounded. Grounding provides a low-resistance path to carry

electricity to ground away from the operator, should the tool malfunction electri-

cally. Do not remove the grounding prong from the plug or alter the plug in any

way. If in doubt as to whether the outlet is properly grounded according to code,

check with a qualiﬁ ed electrician. Extension cords must also be equipped with

grounded (three prong) plugs.

6. SAFETY GLASSES

To prevent eye injuries, the operator and all persons in the

work area must wear approved safety glasses with permanently attached, rigid

side shields. Always wear safety glasses or goggles when spraying air. Do not

aim or spray air at people or animals. Severe skin damage can result.

7. STAY ALERT.

Watch what you are doing & use common sense. Don’t operate

any tool when you are tired.

8. DON’T OVERREACH.

Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Do not

reach over or across machines which are running.

9. DO NOT ABUSE THE CORD.

Never pull on the cord to unplug it. Protect the

cord from potential sources of damage: heat, oil & solvents, sharp edges, or

moving parts. Replace damaged cords immediately.

10. WHEN WORKING OUTDOORS, USE AN OUTDOOR-RATED EXTENSION

CORD.

An extension cord rated for outdoor use must be marked “W-A” or “W”.

11. DO NOT EXPOSE ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT TO MOISTURE.

The air produced is neither suitable for breathing nor food processing without

ﬁ ltering and testing to all applicable legal standards.

2. AIR ONLY:

Use this compressor for compressing air only. Do not compress

other gases.

3. BREATHING PROTECTION:

Always use a respirator when spraying paint or

chemicals.

4. MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE.

Keep tools clean for better and safer perform-

ance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. Keep dry,

clean and free from oil and grease.

5. NEVER USE THIS EQUIPMENT

10. EMPLOYERS

must enforce compliance with the safety warnings and all other

instructions in this manual. Keep it available for use by everyone assigned to

use this equipment.

1. TANK SAFETY VALVE:

This valve prevents damage to the air receiver if a mal-

function in the compressor pump occurs. It is factory pre-set at a limit speciﬁ c to

your particular model and adjustment. Do not tamper with it. This will automati-

cally void your warranty.

2. PRESSURE SWITCH:

The air pressure switch is factory pre-set for optimum per-

formance. Do not bypass or remove this switch. Serious damage to equipment or

personal injury could result from too high an air pressure.

3. MOTOR AND COMPRESSOR PUMP:

Air compressors get hot during operation.

Do not touch the motor, discharge tubing, or compressor while it is running.

The

compressor turns itself on automatically while the power is connected.

4. AIR TANK:

Over-pressurizing the air receiver, piping or tank could cause it to

explode or burst. To protect from over-pressurizing, the compressor is equipped

with a factory preset safety valve. Do not remove, make adjustments to or sub-

stitutions for this valve. Perform a test of the valve from time to time: pull the ring

on the valve to make sure that it operates freely. If the valve does not operate

freely, replace it before further use. Never weld to, drill into, or change the air

receiver in any way.

5. TAMPERING:

If any of the components above are found to have been changed

or tampered with, the warranty will be made void. When servicing, we recom-

mend using only identical Superior replacement parts and any replacement parts

used must have the same speciﬁ cation as the original equipment.

A tool with a higher air demand than this compressor can produce may either not

function, or not function well. It may also cause the compressor to run without

stopping for long periods of time, trying to maintain pressure in the tank. This can

cause either the motor or compressor pump to overheat and damage them. Be sure

the requirements of your tools can be met by the compressor.

To compress air, the piston in the pump moves up and down in the cylinder. On

the down stroke, air is drawn in through the inlet valve. Since the discharge valve

remains closed, as the piston goes up, the air in the cylinder is compressed. The inlet

valve closes and compressed air is forced out into the air receiver. A check valve

prevents it from going back into the pump. Working air is not immediately available.

The pump continues to add air until the air receiver pressure builds to above that

required at the regulator.

Shoots industry standard 18 gauge brad nails in the following sizes: 15mm

(5/8”), 20mm (3/4”), 25mm (1”), 30mm (1-3/16”), 35mm (1-3/8”), 40mm (1-

9/16”), 45mm (1-3/4”), and 50mm (2”).



These brads are perfect for installing trim and mouldings, for cabinet and furniture

making, and for picture framing and for applications where gluing is necessary,

but clamping is impractical.



SETUP & OPERATION

REMEMBER:

After unpacking this unit, inspect carefully for any damage that may

have occurred during transit. Make sure to tighten ﬁ ttings, bolts, etc, before putting

into service.



Locate the compressor in a clean, dry and well-ventilated area, on a ﬁ rm level

surface.



It should be located 30 to 45cm / 12 to 18 inches from a wall or any other ob-

struction that would interfere with the air ﬂ ow. It is equiped with heat dissipation

ﬁ ns that allow for proper cooling. Keep them and other parts free of dust or dirt

that could interfere with cooling. A clean compressor runs cooler and provides

longer service.



Do not place anything on top of the compressor.



Do not use lead-tin solder to join pipes and ﬁ ttings. It can melt at the

temperatures of the compressor’s air discharge and cause the piping to burst.

EXTENSION CORDS

NOTE:

If you plan to use an extension cord when operating your air compressor,

please note:



Maximum length: not to exceed 25 ft.



Minimum wire size: 14 gauge.

If the extension cord is too long or the wire size is too small, the air compressor will

not start

BEFORE OPERATING:



Check that all nuts and bolts are snug.

COMPRESSOR INITIAL BREAK-IN

NOTE:

This is an oil-free compressor and DOES NOT require oil to operate

CAUTION:

Do not attach air tool accessories or tools to open end of hose until start

up has been completed and unit checks OK.

1. Turn regulator fully clockwise to open airﬂ ow.

2. Turn switch to OFF position and plug in power cord.

3. Turn switch to ON position and run unit for 5 minutes to break in the pump parts.

4. Turn regulator knob fully counterclockwise. Compressor will build to maximum

preset pressure and shut off.

5. Turn regulator knob clockwise to cause air to bleed off. Compressor will restart

at a preset pressure.

6. Turn regulator knob counterclockwise to shut off the air and turn switch to off

position.

7. Attach chuck or other tool to open end of hose. Turn the regulator on. In the ON

position, the compressor pumps air into the tank. It shuts off automatically when

unit reaches its maximum preset pressure. In the OFF position, the pressure

switch cannot function and the compressor will not operate. Make sure switch

is in OFF position when connecting or disconnecting power cord from electrical

outlet.

8. After 2 weeks, tighten all nuts and bolts, including head bolts.

AIR SYSTEM



The brad nailer is designed to operate on clean, dry, compressed air, regulated

at 60-100 psi / 413 to 690 kPa / 4.13 to 6.9 bar. The preferred system would

include a ﬁ lter, a pressure regulator, and an automatic oiler located as close to

the tool as possible (within 15 feet / 5 meters is ideal). Do not use bottled air or

gases. Please see ﬁ gure below:

OPERATING PROCEDURESOPERATING PROCEDURES

WARNING



All compressed air contains moisture and other contaminants that can harm the

internal components of the tool. An air line ﬁ lter will remove most of these and

signiﬁ cantly prolong the life of the tool. Ensure the in-line oiler has sufﬁ cient

oil. If an in-line oiler is not available, place 2 drops of oil into the tool’s air inlet

at the beginning of each workday. More than this will be expelled from the tool’s

exhaust during ﬁ ring.



Air Fitting: The nailer should be equipped with a 1/4” NPT male plug for a ‘quick

connector’. To prevent accidental cycling even though disconnected, the tool

must always be connected to the air supply in such a way that all air pressure in

it is released when the coupling is disconnected.

CAUTION:



All air line components (including hoses, pipe, connectors, ﬁ lters, & regulators,

etc.) must be rated for a minimum working pressure of 150 psi / 1034 kPa / 10.3

bar or 150% of the maximum system pressure, whichever is greater.



a jammed fastener, leaving the work area, moving the tool to another location, or

handing it to another person.

CONNECTING THE TOOL

1. Turn the compressor on.

2. Set the regulator to proper pressure for the size for the size and type of fasteners

being used.

3. After reading and understanding this entire manual, connect tool to air supply.

CAUTION:



Keep the tool pointed away from yourself and others at all times.



Do not load fasteners with air connected, safety or trigger depressed.



Always wear approved safety glasses and hearing protection when preparing or

operating this tool.



Never use a tool that leaks air or needs repair.

LOADING THE FASTENERS

1. Disconnect the tool from the air supply. Do not load or adjust the tool if it is con-

nected to the air supply.

2. Depress the LOCK (BN5018Ah-64) to release the MOVABLE MAGAZINE

(BN5018Ah-53) and pull the magazine out fully as shown.

3. Place a full stick of the desired type and size of fasteners on the FIXED MAGA-

ZINE (BN5018Ah-58). Up to 100 fasteners can be loaded in the magazine.

4. Push the MOVABLE MAGAZINE UNIT (BN5018Ah-53) forward until the LOCK

(BN5018Ah-64) clicks and locks it.

5. The tool is ready to operate.

OPERATING THE TOOL

1. The depth to which a brad is driven is determined by the supplied air pressure.

Test ﬁ re a brad into a sample of the material you will be working on and check

depth. If a change is desired, adjust the regulator to supply air at a higher or

lower pressure. Test ﬁ re another fastener and check depth again. Adjust as

necessary.

CAUTION:



Keep tool pointed in a safe direction at all times.



Never attempt to drive fasteners into materials too hard to penetrate, or at too

steep an angle, or too near the edge of the workpiece. The fastener can rico-

chet causing personal injury.



Disconnect tool from air supply before doing any disassembly, maintenance,

clearing a jammmed fastener, leaving the work area, moving the tool to another

location, or handing the tool to another person.



Clean and inspect the tool daily. Carefully check for proper operation of trig-

ger and safety mechanism. Do not use the tool unless both the trigger and the

safety mechanism are functional, or if the tool is leaking air or needs any other

repair.

2. Make sure the air pressure is within the limits mentioned in SPECIFICATIONS.

3. Hold the BODY and press DRIVE GUIDE against the work surface, being sure

the tool is perpendicular to the surface.

4. Gently squeeze the TRIGGER to drive the fastener.

5. Lift the tool off the work surface.

WARNING:

efore any maintenance or adjustments to your air compressor, always

take the following safety precautions:

1. Disconnect electrical power.

2. Open the drain cock to drain air tank of pressure.

DAILY MAINTENANCE

Before each use:

1. Be sure all nuts and bolts are tight

2. Check for any unusual noise or vibration

After use:

Open the air tank drain cock to drain condensation from tank:

Moisture in compressed air will form into droplets as it comes from an air compressor

pump. When humidity is high or when compressor is in continuos use for an

extended period, this moisture will collect in the tank. If left in tank over an extended

period, moisture will cause corrosion inside of the tank. To prevent corrosion, drain

tank after each use. To drain, open the drain cock located on the bottom of the tank.

After draining is complete, be sure to tighten drain cock before compressor is used

again.

MONTHLY MAINTENANCE:

1. Inspect air system for leaks by applying soapy water to all joints. Tighten those

joints if leakage is observed.

2. Check that all nuts and bolts stay tight.

CAUTION:

When cleaning air ﬁ lter, or any parts in direct contact with the air production, do

not use any ﬂ ammable or toxic cleaner or solvent



During the break in period, nuts and bolts have a tendency to loosen up. After

two weeks, tighten all nuts and bolts including head bolts.

DAILY MAINTENANCE

CAUTION

Disconnect tool from air supply before cleaning and inspection. Correct

all problems before putting the tool back in service.



Wipe tool clean and inspect for wear or damage. Use non-ﬂ amable cleaning

solutions to wipe exterior of tool only if necessary. Do Not soak tool with clean-

ing solutions. Such solutions can damage internal parts.



Inspect trigger and safety mechanism to assure system is complete and func-

tional: no loose or missing parts, no binding or sticking parts.



Keep all screws tight. Loose screws can cause personal injury or damage the

tool.



If the tool is used without an in-line oiler, place 2 drops of air tool oil into

the air inlet of the tool at the beginning of each workday and after about

1 hour of continuous use.

Frequent but not excessive lubrication is required

for best performance. Oil added through the airline connection will lubricate all

internal parts.

Use only air tool oil.

Do not use oil with detergents or other

additives. These can cause damage through accelerated wear to the seals in

the tool.
