New Cornell Amp Range.
The Vintage Brown Range. ( Honouring the sound of the ‘80’s. )
Vintage refers to the 1980’s sound. Brown refers to the tone sort after by many guitar players of that
generation.
The Range Includes the Vintage Brown 10 ten watt, Vintage Brown 20 & 40 watts amps.
It is common for modern amplifiers to incorporate several valve stages to achieve a high amount of
gain. This tends to reduce the response, colour the tone and suppress the players natural
technique.
By incorporating the guitars volume control as part of the amplifiers pre amp design The Vintage
Brown range of amplifiers will deliver plenty of gain and still retain the guitars tone and feel.
It works by having more than the normal amount of gain in the first stages of amplification. With the
guitar on full there will be preamp distortion while turning down the guitar the amp cleans up.
There is an input gain control that can be switched in operation should there be a reason not to use
the guitars volume.
Like the Romany and Plexi amplifiers the Vintage Brown range incorporates output attenuation.
This enables the player not just to drive the output into distortion at a low level but also by using the
pre amp gain you can obtain both Pre amp and output distortion offering a wide range of distorted
tones.

INTRODUCTION
Thank you for choosing a Cornell Vintage Brown Amplifier
Your amplifier employs valve technology. It is hand built. Only top quality components
are used so that you can enjoy years of trouble-free use.
Please take time to read this manual, to ensure that you get the best from your
amplifier.
Valve Replacement
Valve life varies depending upon playing style and application. Power valves have a
much shorter life than pre-amp valves, which can last for years.
To maintain the optimum performance of your amplifier, the valves should only be
replaced with the same valve types.
valves are:
V1 - 12AX7; V2 - 12AX7; V3 - 12AT7; V4 - 6L6GC.
Warning
When changing valves, ALWAYS unplug the amplifier, and remember
that the VALVE’S ARE HOT! Wait for valves to cool, or replace valves
when the amplifier has not been used for several hours.
DO NOT allow anything to obstruct or touch the output valve in the
back of the cabinet.
Remember it is very hot when in use.

To prevent damage, fire or shock hazard, do not expose this amplifier
to rain or moisture.
No user serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified
personnel only.
This unit must be earthed. Use the correct mains cord.

CONTROLS
INPUT
Jack plug input connection for your electric guitar.
High impedance input connections for instruments. Low may suit pedals but not

GAIN Use to obtain preamp distortion when volume is turned down.
When switched out use guitar volume.
VOLUME
Adjusts the gain of the pre-amp and is used to set the overall volume of the
amplifier.
EQ Switch
Moves where the treble and bass cross over.
TREBLE
The treble control increases the high frequency response.
BASS
The bass control increases the low frequency response.
OUTPUT SWITCH
This switch alters the output power: Position A=10 Watts,
position B=2 Watts, position C=1/4 Watt, position D=1/8 Watt.
Note that, unless the volume is adjusted above the power
selected, you will not notice any change in output level.
OUTPUT
The output jack socket is to be connected to an 8 Ohm
speaker load.
MAINS INDICATOR
When illuminated, there is power to the amplifier.
MAINS FUSE
The fuse holder contains the mains fuse for the amplifier. The
mains fuse protects the amplifier from electrical faults.
HT FUSE Protects the output valve.
Replace a failed fuse only with the same type and rating.
