1. General
This document describes installation of a splitter box kit into the Corning Optical Communications
OptiTect®local convergence cabinet, Gen III series (Figure 1) to provide additional capacity.

3. Tools and Materials Required
• Phillips screwdriver
• 216B tool or a 7/16-in nutdriver (for entry into the interior of the cabinet)
• Dry-process connector cleaning supplies
4. Precautions
WARNING: Never look directly into the end of a ber that may be carrying laser light.
Laser light can be invisible and can damage your eyes. Viewing it directly does not cause pain.
The iris of the eye will not close involuntarily as when viewing a bright light. Consequently,
serious damage to the retina of the eye is possible. Should accidental eye exposure to laser
light be suspected, arrange for an eye examination immediately.
5. Installation
5.1 Into a 288- or 432-ber Cabinet
Step 1: Use the 216B tool or 7/16-in nutdriver to open the cabinet door (Figure 3).
Step 2: Open the main adapter panel and remove three screws from the top.

Step 3: Align the holes on the plate with the screw holes on the panel and secure the plate
with the three screws provided in the kit.

Step 4: Install four splitters inside the splitter box (Figure 5) and secure them to the box with
the captive fasteners.

Step 5: Slide the splitter box into the tracks on the underside of the plate (Figure 6). Secure
the box by pushing in the plungers.

Step 6: Store the connectors in the connector parking eld on the cabinet door. To properly
close the door without pinching bers:
• Use elds C and D when installing up to 288 bers.
• Use elds C, D, and E when installing up to 432 bers

Step 7: When ready to install the connectors, remove them from the parking clip.
Step 8: Clean the connectors and adapters using a dry process; then mate the connectors
into the correct port or connector adapter.
Step 9: Route the cable slack through the guide at the bottom of the cabinet, then through
the retaining guides and slack storage guides.

5.2 Into a 144-ber Cabinet
Step 1: Use the 216B tool or 7/16-in nutdriver to open the cabinet door (Figure 3).
Step 2: Remove the plastic door and brackets as shown in Figure 8.

Step 3: Follow Steps 2 through 9 of Section 5.1 to install the plate, splitter box and splitters
into the 144-ber cabinet.
NOTE: In the 144-ber cabinet, additional splitters must have a leg length of 30 in.

From back of cabinet,
open door. Remove the
two nuts shown.
From front of cabinet,
remove the brackets
shown.
From front of cabinet,
remove the screw
holding the plastic door.
Loosen captive
fastener and remove
door from the brackets.
