Fiber Slack Storage Device
for FNI-NG

205-437 Instruction, FNI-NG Fiber Network Interface Device
1. General
This document describes the recommended procedure for installing the ber network slack storage
device behind the ber network device (FNI-NG). The FNI-NG mounts directly to the slack storage
device. The slack storage device has a cover and grommets in the cable entry ports to prevent
intrusion of water and insects.
2. Installation
2.1 Mount the Slack Storage Device
Mount the slack storage device to a vertical surface
near approved ground, but away from downspouts,
permanent water sprinklers, or other water sources.
Step 1: Using the slack storage device as a
template, mark the three mounting
holes on the wall (Figure 1). Prepare
a mounting hole in the wall for each
opening.
Step 2: Use at least #8 hardware to mount the
device to the dwelling. Depending on the
screw head size, at washers may be
required.
Step 3: Ensure that the device is square to the
mounting surface to prevent warping.
Shim with at washers or equivalent, if
necessary.
2.2 Route Connectorized Drop Cable
Step 1: Determine the cable entry location. Cable can only enter the slack storage device
from the upper right or the lower left corners. Pierce the entry grommets and feed the
connectorized drop cable through them. Do not make too large an opening that will allow
insects to enter.
Step 2: Route the cable in the tray in a clockwise direction (Figure 2). The drop cable must exit
the slack storage device from the lower right corner.
Step 3: Leave enough drop cable extending from the bottom of the slack storage device to allow
for a drip loop when connected to the FNI-NG unit.
