1. Read and understand all instructions in the Owner’s Instruction
Manual.
2. Read all warnings and follow all instructions marked on the product.
3. Unplugthisproductfromthewalloutletbeforecleaning.Useadamp
clothforcleaning.Donotuseliquidoraerosolcleaners.
4. Do not use the telephone near water. For example, do not use near a
bathtub, wash bowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, swimming pool, or in a wet
basement.
5. Donotplacethisproductonanunstablecartorstand.Theproductmay
fall causing serious damage to the product.
6. Use only the type power source indicated on the label. If you are not
sure of the type power supply to your home, consult your dealer or local
powercompany.
7. Donotplaceanyobjects onthetelephone linecord.Donotlocatethe
telephonewherethelinecordwillbewalkedon.
8. Do not block or cover ventilation slots and openings in the bottom of
the telephone. The openings should never be blocked by placing the
telephone on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surfaces. This telephone
should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. This
telephone should never be placed in a built-in installation unless proper
ventilationisprovided.
9. Never spill liquid on the telephone or push objects of any kind
throughventilationslots.Liquidorobjectsmaytouchdangerousvoltage
pointsorshortoutpartsthatcouldresultinariskoffireorelectricalshock.

10. Do not disassemble this product. Opening or removing covers may
exposeyoutodangerousvoltagesorotherrisks.Incorrectreassemblycan
causeelectrical shock whentheproduct is subsequentlyused.
11. Donotoverloadoutletsandextensioncords.Sometelephonesrequire
ACpowerfromanoutlet,overloadingtheoutletscanresultintheriskoffire
or electric shock.
12. Avoidusingatelephoneduringalocalthunderstorm.Theremaybea
remoteriskofelectricalshockfromlightning.
13. Do not use a telephone in the vicinity of a gas leak to report the leak,
orotherwise.
14. Unplug the telephone from the wall outlet and refer servicing to
qualified service personnel underthefollowing conditions:
• Whenthe line cordisfrayed or plugsdamaged.
• Ifliquidhasbeenspilledintothetelephone.
• If the telephone has been exposed to rain or water.
• If thetelephonedoesnotoperateproperlybyfollowingtheoperating
instructions. (Adjust only those controls covered by the operating
instructions. Improper adjustment of other controls may result in
damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified
techniciantorestoretheproductto normaloperation.)
• Ifthetelephonehasbeendroppedorthehousingdamaged.
• If the telephone exhibits a distinct change in performance.

USINGYOURTELEPHONE
SETUP/INSTALLATION
1. Connect the adapter. Plug the large part of the adapter into the wall outlet and the
adapter tip into the jack at the rear side of unit. (Use only 9V DC. 300mA, center
positive Class 2 adapter.)
2. Connect the telephone line cord.
a. To connect without an answering machine.
•Use thenew linecordto connectthePHONE jackof yournewcaller ID
phone to the modular wall jack.
b. To connect with anexistinganswering machine.
•Use the existing line cord supplied to connect the LINE jack of your
answering machine to the wall modular line jack.
•Use thenewline cordsuppliedto connect thetelephone jack ofyour
new Caller ID phone to the PHONE jack of your answering machine.
•Setyouranswering machine to answerthephone after 2ormorerings.
3. Follow the procedure [Setting Up Your Unit ] to set up your unit.
4. Place the unitona flat tableormount it on awall.If you desire toplaceit on awall,
use the wall mount bracket and short line cord supplied to accomplish the wall
mounting.

WALLMOUNTINSTRUCTIONS
1. Installwallmount bracketinwall mountposition and routecords asshownin
diagram below.
2. Connect the adapter and the line cord. See Steps 2 & 3 on preceding page for
specific instructions.
3. Push out the handset hook and relocate it reversely to the wall mount position,
plug the coiled cord into the handset, and then plug the other end of the cord
into the case.
4. Place the handset on the base.

SETTINGUP YOUR UNIT
FACTORYPRESETS
Toensure your telephoneworks properly, youmust setthefollowing optionscorrectly
beforeusing yourphone.To beginthe settingsequence, pressOPTIONSbutton.
The following table shows you the factory default settings for your unit:

After the adapter is connected, the display will show as indicated below for setting.

[SETLANGUAGE]appearsonthedisplay.“1. ENG” and“2. ESP” willflash for
you to choosetoview yourmessagein EnglishorSpanish. Thiswillonly flashfor
ashort timebeforegoing into standbymode.
(1)Press 1 to select ENG (English), or press 2 to select ESP (Spanish).
A check mark moves to the selection you have made.
(2)Press DOWN button toconfirmthe selection,andthe screen willdisplay the
next setting option.
2. Thistelephonehas beenspecially designedtoallow programmingofup tofour
different area codes.
(1) When[SETAREA CODE] appears, usethekeypad 1-0 toenterthearea
code. After you finish all three digits, press DOWN button to confirm,
andthe ENTER 2ND CODE” willbe displayedforprogramming.
(2) Usethesame procedureasin step1to programthe2ND, 3RDand4TH
area codes.
(3) TheDOWN button canbeusedasa skipfeature.Forexample,ifthereare only
twoareacodes to be programmed,when“ENTER 3RD CODE”
and “ENTER 4TH CODE” appear, presstheDOWN buttontoconfirm, and
the screen will display the next setting option.

3.When [FLASH TIMER (MS)] appears, press EDIT button to set the desired
Flash Timer.
(1)UseLEFT button to decrease thetimerby50 ms. (Min. 100ms)
(2)UseRIGHT button to increase thetimerby 50 ms. (Max. 1000ms)
(3) Press DOWN button to confirm, and the screen will display the next setting
option.
4.When[SELECTLINE1/2?]appears, “1. LINE1”and“2. LINE2”will flashand you
may select line 1 or 2 as the prime line.
(1)Thedefault settingforprimelineis Line1.Theprimelineis theautomatically
selected when the handset is lifted, or handsfree is pressed.
(2)Press 1 button to select LINE 1, or Press 2 button to select LINE 2. The
check mark moves to the selection you have made.
(3) Press DOWN button to confirm, and the screen will display the next setting
option.
5.When[DIALMODE]appears, 1. P(Pulse)and2.T(Tone) willflashandyou may
selectTone orPulse Dialing.
(1) Press1 buttonto selectTONE,orPress2 buttontoselectPULSE.The
check mark moves to the selection you have made.
(2) PressDOWN buttonto confirm, andthescreen will displaythenext setting
option, or pressOPTION buttonto skip theprogramming.
Note: In order for the Caller ID callback to work (see Using the Caller ID
Function), you must set the PULSE/TONE switch to the Tone position.

6. Youhavenowcompleted thenecessaryprogramming.TOTAL:00NEW:00”
appearsinthe display. This isthe initialstandbyscreen.TheDate/Time isset
when aCallerID callisreceived. Thistelephonewill keepthecurrent timeaccu
rately, and isupdatedeachtime a CIDnumberis received. Afteryou have setup
the unitcompletelyfor the firsttime,usethe OPTIONS button toreviewor repro
gramtheLanguage,AreaCode,FlashTimer, LineStatusorDialMode.
USINGYOURTELEPHONE
RECEIVINGAPHONE CALL
1. Be sure the RINGER switch is set to the HI or LOW position.
2. When the phone rings and the callers information shows on the display window
(refer to Using the Caller ID Function), lift the handset or press the SPEAKER-
PHONE button and begin your conversation.
3. Set the Ringer switch to the OFF position when you do not want to be inter
rupted by the phone ringing.
PLACINGAPHONECALL
1. Lift the handset or press the SPEAKERPHONE button and wait for a dial tone.
2. Dial the telephone number you wish to call. The number will appear on the
display window.

SPEAKERPHONEBUTTON
1. Receiving Incoming Calls
a. When the phone rings and the caller’s information shows on the display
window (refer to Using the Caller ID Function), press and release the
Speakerphonebuttonand talk normally intothebuilt-in microphone from a
distanceof18-20 inches.
b. You can adjust the volume of the caller’s voice by pressing the VOLUME
buttontoobtainthedesiredvolumelevel.
c. Afterthe conversationhasfinished, press theSPEAKERPHONE buttonto
hang up.
2. To MakeACall
a. Press and releasetheSPEAKERPHONE button.
b. When you hear a dial tone, dial the number or press the auto memory
button just as you would on any other push-button telephone. The
number appears on the display window.
c. After the conversation has finished, press SPEAKERPHONE to hang up.
Note:
1. If you wish to switch from handsfree to handset, simply lift the handset.
2. If you wish to switch from handset to handsfree, press and release
SPEAKERPHONE andthenhang upthehandset.
DURATIONCOUNTER
A built-in counter will start counting for your reference 6 seconds after you lift the
handset or 6 seconds after you dial a telephone number.
AUTOMATIC MEMORY
ToStoreANumberInMemory: (Telephonemustbeon-hook)
1. Pressandhold theSAVE buttonformore than2seconds. [SAVE TO?]
appears display window.
2. Press the key (located on right-hand side of base) you want to store the
number. Then [ENTER NUMBER]appears on the display window.
3. Enterthenumber you wanttostore.Afteryoucomplete the number,press the
SAVE button.Then [ENTER NAME]appears on the display window. Use
the keypadto input thenameassociatedwith the number. (Seepage15 for
instructions.)
4. Pressthe SAVE buttonagain.

ToDialAPhoneNumberInMemory
1. Liftthehandset or pressspeakerphoneand wait for adialtone.
2. Press any memory location.
•To dial an auto memory button (located on right-band side of base) - Press
the desired auto memory button (1, 2, 3.... or 10).
3. The number will be displayed and dialed automatically.
VOLUMEBUTTON
Abuilt-inamplifier featureallowsyou toincreasethe listeningvolumewhen speaking
withyourparty. When needed,pressthe VOLUME buttontoachieve differentlevels.
Thevolumewillgobacktodefaultafteryouhangupthehandset. Defaultvolumeismid-
level.
REDIAL/PAUSEBUTTON
1. If the number you dialed is busy, or you want to call the last number dialed
again, press and release the hookswitch for a new dial tone.
2. Press REDIAL. The number will appear on the display window.
3. The last number called will automatically be redialed.
The PAUSE button allows you to insert a 3.6-second pause in the dialing sequence.
This is particularly useful if you are connected to a PABX system where you must
dial an access code (usually the number 9) to obtain an outside line.
1. Press the PAUSE button once and release at any point in the dialing sequence
where a pause is desired.
2. The PAUSE button can be pressed more than once to create a longer pause.
HOLDBUTTON
1. Toplace acallon hold,press theHOLD button.TheLineLED willthenflash.
Press the Linebutton being usedtorelease Hold.
2. ToAnsweraCall on theotherline while speakingonone line. Place thecurrent
line on hold. Press the ringing Line button, Line 1 or Line 2. If you want the
second call to join you in a three-way conference, press the CONF.
3. ToPlace bothcallson holdpressthe Holdbuttonand bothlines willbeon
holdat thesame time.TheLine/HoldLEDs willlight. Tocancel holdforonly
onelinepress thedesiredline button (Line1/2).The other linewillremain on
hold.

FLASHBUTTON
This telephone provides a break signal for a PABX service of Call Waiting from your
localtelephone company.The Flashtimeis programmablefrom 100msto1000ms, in
50msincrements.Youcan change theflashtime in the setupprocedure.Thedefault
Flashtimeis600ms.IfyouhaveCallWaitingservice,youcanalternatetheCallWaiting
functionperthe followinginstructions.
1. While having a conversation, another party calls and you hear a tone.
2. Press the FLASH button once and release. The first conversation is placed
on hold and the second call can be answered.
3. Press FLASH button again and release. The first caller can be spoken to
again and thesecondcall isplacedon hold.
Note: If you also have subscribed to Call Waiting Caller ID service, please see Call
Waiting Display below
CALLWAITINGDISPLAY
In the past, if you had call-waiting service, a tone alerted you there was a new call
comingwhileyouwereonanexistingcall. Now ourCallWaitingCallerIDnotonlytells
youthere isanother callwaiting, butlets youknow whothe calleris beforeyou answer
it.Thecallwaitinginformationisshownontheunit’sdisplay. TheCALLWAITING(CW)
symbol will flash for 16 seconds along with the telephone number and name of the
personwhois on call waiting.Pressthe FLASH buttontoput the existing callonhold
and answer the new call.
Nomatterwhetheryou answer the call or not,theCallWaiting CallerIDwillstore the
call information for future reference.
Note: Make sure you have subscribed to both Call Waiting Caller ID and Caller ID
service from your local telephone company. If you only have Caller ID service, the
unit works for Caller ID only.
MUTEBUTTON
PressMUTE tospeakwithoutthepersononthephonehearingyourconversation. The
MUTE Indicatorwilllightupandremainlighted untilyouresumeyourconversation. To
resumeyour conversation,pressMUTE. TheMUTE indicator willgoout andyour call
cancontinue.
RINGER VOLUME
Use the Ringer Volume controls located on the right side of the phone base to
change ringer volume for Line 1 and Line 2. The 3-position switches are used to set
ringervolumetoOff,LoworHi.RemembertosettheRingerswitchestoHiorLowwhen
you want to receive calls. 12

CONFERENCEBUTTON
1.Toestablish athree-wayconference call,pressHOLD whiletalkingonone line.
Thefirstconferencepersonis onHold,the HOLDLED willlight.
2.PressLine 1orLine 2whicheveris notbeing used. Listenfor dial tone.Dial the
telephonenumberof the secondperson.
3. Press the conference button. You may now speak to the first and second per
sonsimultaneously.Toplacebothcallsonhold,press theholdbuttonwhileinconfer
ence. To cancel hold for one line, press the desired line.
Note: Thefirstperson isautomaticallyreleased from holdafterpressing thecon
ference button.
4.Replace thehandsetin thecradletodisconnectboth lines.Tostayconnected to
only oneline,press thedesiredline. Theotherline willbedisconnected.
5. After conference call, press Line 1 or Line 2 to cancel conference call.
TONEBUTTON(*)
Ifthe PULSE/TONEswitch isset tothePULSE position,and youwantto makea tone
dialing call after pulse dialing, press the TONE button on the dialing keypad, then
dial the number.The number dialed out will be changed to tone dialing automatically
without setting the PULSE/TONE to TONE position.
HEADSETCOMPATIBLE
The slide switch must be located in the proper position for this feature to work. The
headset can be turned on and off by using the handsfree button.
Note: UsetheSlideSwitchlocatedonthe rightsideofthephonebaseto setOnorOff.
CONTRASTBUTTON
The preset value is 3. you can change it to your preference by pressing CONTRAST
buttontoadjust to differentlevelsof thedisplaycontrast.
DATAPORT
This is a connection which is in parallel with the telephone line. It allows the
connection of a device such as a modem, caller ID, or an answering machine. The
dataportis across line2.
USINGTHEDIRECTORY
Thisunit storesthe numbersof upto 99of yourbusiness associates,clients, contacts,
andfriends inyourDirectory.Youcan dialthese numbersbyselecting them.
Namesaresorted alphabetically startingwith the first character. (If you wantyour
Directorysortedby thelast name,enterthe lastnamefirst.)

TOSTOREANEWNUMBERANDNAMEINTOTHEDIRECTORY
1.PressandholdtheSAVE buttonformorethan2seconds.“SAVETO”willappearon
display.
2.Press DIRECTORY.Then“”ENTERNUM” willappearondisplay.
3.Enterthetelephonenumberyouwanttostore.Afteryoucompletethe number, press
SAVE.“ENTER NAME” will appear ondisplayfortwo seconds. (Seepage 15for
instructions.)
4.Use thekeypadto inputthe nameassociated withthe number.
5. Press SAVE again to finish the store procedure.
FINDINGITEMSINTHEDIRECTORY
1.PressDIRECTORY toseetheDirectoryList.
2.Tomovedownandup thelist, pressUPorDOWN.Oryoucanpress theappropriate
dialkeytoseethelistingsthatstartwitha particular letter. Forexample:55 takesyou
tothefirst “JJlisting,the DOWNtakesyouto thenextJ listing.Pressing555 takes
you to the first “KK” listing.
3.Toleavethe Directoryatanytime,press DIRECTORY.
EDITING IN THE DIRECTORY
1. Find the item you want to edit in the Directory list.
2. Press LEFT to start editing.After you change the number, press SAVE again.
3. You can also change the name and press SAVE to finish the editing procedure.
DIALINGTELEPHONENUMBERSFROMMEMORY
1.Findthe numberyouwant todialin theDirectorylist. (Telephonecanbe OnorOff
hook)
2.Whenthe numbershows onthedisplay, pressDIAL tostartthedialing.
DELETING ITEMS IN THE DIRECTORY
Deleting individual item:
Todeleteanindividualcall,presstheDELETEbuttontwice.Thedisplaywillbe erased
lineby lineandtheremainingitemswillbere-sorted.
Deleting all items:
Todeleteallitemsstored inthedirectory,pressDIRECTORYtoseethe DirectoryList
heading,thenpressandholdtheDELETEbuttonformorethan4secondsuntil“DELETE
ALL”appearsinthedisplay. PresstheDELETEbuttonagaintoconfirmthatyouwantto
deleteall callrecords. “NORECORDS”appearsinthedisplay confirmingthere areno
callrecords storedin memory.

YoucanprogramnamestocorrespondwithnumbersyouenterintotheDIRECTORYor
memorylocations.Toprogramaname, findthe dialpadkey thathasthefirstcharacter
ofthename. Keepwatchingthedisplayasyoupressthekeyuntilthedesiredcharacter
appearson thedisplay. Pressadifferentdialpadkeyorpressthe rightEDIT buttonfor
thenext character.If thenextcharacter ison thesamekey,pleasewait onesecond to
acceptthepreviousinput.Toinsertaspace,presstheRIGHTeditbutton.Tobackspace
anderase amistake, presstheLEFTeditbutton.

USING THE CALLERIDFUNCTION
MESSAGELIGHT
AnindicatormarkedNEW CALL willlightandflashtoletyouknow whenthereare new
callsreceived.
If you have a voice mailbox service with your telephone company, another indicator
marked MESSAGE will flash to alert you to dial your telephone company to check
your new messages.
MESSAGEWAITING
Thisunit’sMESSAGEWAITINGDETECTIONisforbothFSKandStutterToneSystems.
IFYOURSERVICEISFSK:
1. If you have a voice mailbox service from the phone company, the MESSAGE
indicator will flash and [MESSAGE WAITING] will appear on the display for 20
secondswhen amessagewaitingsignal(on) fromthe CentralOfficeisreceived.
2. The MESSAGE indicatorwillgo offand[MSG WAITING OFF] will appearfor20
secondsifthe message waiting offsignalissent from theCentraloffice.

IFYOURSERVICEISASTUTTERTONESYSTEM:
1. Thisunitwill check your linefora stutter dial toneeverytime you hang upor
eachtimeacallgoes unanswered. The MESSAGE indicator willflashwhen
there is a message waiting.
2. Youmayexperiencesomedelayinseeingthe MESSAGE indicator lightup
even though there are messages in your rnail box. This delay is due to
regulatory matters anddoesnot indicate aproblemwiththe unit.
Thisunit maynotheactivatedordeactivatedunder certainconditions. Forexample,
whenyouretrieve your messagefroman outsidephone(not your owntelephone
number),theMESSAGEindicatormay notbe canceledwhenyoureturnhome.Ifyou
experiencethissituation,pickupthereceiverandhangup.TheMESSAGE indicator
willcancel.
RECEIVINGCALLS
1. Whenthetelephone is notinuse and anewcall is received,thedisplay will show
the NEW symbol, the phone number, the caller s name, and time and date of
the call for 20 seconds. The REPEAT symbol will appear if the call has
come in more than once.
2. After 20 seconds with no activity, the display will default to the Stand-By
screen and remain on until another call is received or a button is pressed.
This will show you the total number of calls stored and how many new calls
that have not been reviewed.
REVIEWINGCALLS
1. When the NEW symbol is flashing on the Stand-By screen, you have new
incomingcalls. Nexttothe NEW symbolisthetotal number ofnewcalls.
PressCALLERLISTandtheREVIEWUP orREVIEWDOWN buttonto
review the incoming stored calls.
2. The NEW symbol attached to each call will be removed after you review the
call.
3. If the NEW symbol is still flashing when the display goes back to the Stand-By
screen, there are new calls that you have not yet reviewed.
4. The reviewed number can be stored into any of the auto memory buttons or
keypad memory locations by pressing the SAVE button first, then one of the
memorybuttons. Press theSAVEbuttontoconfirm.
