• TheDVR-USBcontainsa128GBinternalUSBashdriveanda16GBexternalUSBash
 drive.
• Thedefaultsengisforallvideorecordingandsnapshotstobesavedtotheexternal
 USBashdrive.
• Theexibilityexiststobeabletostoretotheinternal,externalorbothUSBashdrives
 simultaneously,dependingonthestrategythatworksbest.
• FilesontheexternalashdrivecaneasilybemovedtoaPCbyremovingitfromthe
 DVR-USBandinserngitintoaPC.OncethelesaremovedtoaPCtheycanquicklybe
 deletedfromtheashdriveinordertomakeroomforitsusageonceagain.
• Althoughtheinternaldriveisnon-removable,lescanindividuallybetransferred
 betweentheinternalandexternaldrivesineitherdirecon.
• Havingbothinternalandexternaldrivesmakesstoringbackupsofvideosorsnapshots
 possible.
• Approximately12hoursofhighdenionvideomaybestoredonthe16GBexternal
 drive.
• Frequentbackupsarerecommended.
Theoperatorisabletosettodefaultdeviceforstoringvideosandsnapshotsthroughthe
SetupMenuwhichwillbecoveredlater.Whenplayingvideos,viewingsnapshots,moving,
copyingordelengles,theoperatorrstselectsthestoragedevice(eitherinternalor
external).
WARNING:IfusingaashdrivenotsuppliedbyCUES,itmustbeformaedwithaFAT32
lesystem.Manynewerashdrives,especiallythoselargerthan32GB,donotcome
formaedtoFAT32(instead,typically,exFAT).

IfaashdriveofthewrongformatisinsertedintheexternalUSBdrive,theDVR-USBwill
displayanerrormessage‘ExternalStorageError’.Further,iftheoperatorselects‘System
Informaon’fromthe‘Setup’menu,itwillsay‘UnsupportedDevice’fortheexternaldrive.
InordertoformataashdrivetoFAT32,seetheseconinthisappendix‘Formangaash
drive’.NotethatFirmwareVersion1753orlaterisrequiredtoformataashdrivethrough
theDVR-USBmenu.
WARNING:Theexternalashdriveshouldnotberemovedwhilethesystemiswringtoit.
Themessage“Waitunlsafetoremove...”willappearonthedisplaywhenitiswringto
theexternalashaertheoperatorhaspressedthe[STOP/BACK]buon.Donotremovethe
ashunlthismessagehasbeenclearedfromthescreen.
WARNING:Whenrecordingtoaparculardriveortobothdrivessimultaneously,ifeither
drivellsupduringthisprocess,therecordingwillstopandanerrormessage‘Storagefullor
writeerror’willbedisplayed.Thelastfewframesrecordedmayalsobelostinordertofree
upspaceneededforindices.However,thelestoredwillbeviewable.
Operatorsmaynotethatwhenarecordingisbeguntheapproximateamountofrecording
meisdisplayedfortherstseveralseconds.Ifrecordingtoboththeinternalandexternal
DVR-USBashdrivesimultaneously,theapproximaterecordingmeoftheDVR-USBdevice
withtheleastcapacityisshown.
Atanyme,theoperatormaychecktheamountoffreespaceremainingonanyofthedrives
beingusedtostoredata.Seethesecon’Viewingtheamountofspaceremainingontheash
drives’.

Whencopying,movingordelengles,therearetwomodesofperformingtheseacons:
IndividualandGroup.TheIndividualmodeisquickeriftheoperatoronlyneedstoperform
afuncononasinglele.However,ifseverallesneedtobeoperatedon,especiallywhen
theyaretobemovedorcopied,usingthegroupmodemaybebenecial.Thisisbecause
thelistoflescanbeselectedandthentheoperaoniniatedtoactuponthem.Oncethe
operaonbegins,theoperatorcouldworkonsomethingelseandnothavetowaitatthe
computerwhileitperformsabatchofoperaons.
Regardlessofwhethertheoperaonchosenisindividualorgroup,iftheoperatortriesto
copyormovealetoatargetdrivethatalreadyhasaleofthesamename,theoperatorwill
begivenanopportunitytooverwritethetargetle.
Foraindividualcopy,moveordelete,theoperatorcanalternatelychooseto‘cancel’the
operaonpriortoperformingit.
Inthecaseofcopyingormovingagroupofles,ratherthan‘cancel’therewillalternatelybe
oponsto‘overwriteall’andto‘skip’.‘Overwriteall’willmakeitsothatthecurrentandany
subsequentlesfoundtoexistonthetargetdrivewillbeoverwrienwithouttheoperator
havingtodecideseparately.‘Skip’canbeusedtonotoverwritethecurrentlethathasbeen
foundtoexistonthetargetdrive,buttoconnuelookingtoseeifthereareotherlesonthe
targetdrivethatalsomayalreadyexistonthesourcedrive.

iftherearelesexisngwiththesamenameasthelesabouttobecopied,starngwiththe
earliestnamealphabecally.

leandwillmakeadecisiononfurtherlesthatalreadyexist.
Selecng‘Overwriteall’willmakeitsothatthecurrentandanysubsequentlesfoundtoexist
onthetargetdrivewillbeoverwrienwithouttheoperatorhavingtodecideseparately.
Selecng‘Skip’canbeusedtoleavealonethecurrentlethathasbeenfoundtoexistonthe
targetdrive,buttoconnuelookingtoseeifthereareotherlesonthetargetdrivethatalso
mayalreadyexistonthesourcedrive.
If‘Overwrite’or‘Skip’isselectedthesystemwillconnueprocessingthroughthetargetles
alphabecallylookingforaddionallesthatmatchtheonesbeingcopied.Foreachone
thatisfound,the‘AlreadyExists’menuwillbedisplayedandtheoperatorwillagainhavean
opportunityto‘Overwrite’,‘Overwriteall’or‘Skip’.
Oncetheoperatorhasmadeitthroughtheenrelistoflesthatmatchtheonesbeingcopied,
oralternately,atsomepointselected‘Overwriteall’,orthereweren’tanylesthatmatchedthe
onesbeingcopied,thesystemwillcommencethecopyoperaon.Notethatdependingonthe
numberofleschosen,andthesizeofthoseles,thiscantakeaconsiderableamountofme.
Thelesarecopiedinreversealphabecorder.Asthelesarebeingcopied,theDVR-USBwill
displaythelenamebeingcopiedandalsoupdatetheprogressbyshowingtheapproximate
percentagethattheoperaonhascompleted,e.g.Copyingvideo...66.8%..Inthecaseofa
moveoperaon,thelesarethendeletedfromthesourcedrive.
Iftheoperatordoesn’twishtocopyanylesatalloratleastnottheparculargroupofles
selected,hecanpressthe[STOP/BACK]buonanymewhileattheAlreadyExistsmenu,to
returntotheCopyVideofromInternalmenuwherehecanagainmodifythelistoflestobe
selected.
Pressingthe[STOP/BACK]buonfromtheFilesSelectedmenuwillreturntotheFile
Managementmenu.
Whencopyingcompletes,theFileManagementmenuisdisplayed.Pressthe[STOP/BACK]
buononcetoreturntothemainmenu.
