Read these instructions fully before proceeding.
4.1 Unpacking the appliance.
Carefully examine the carton for damage before unpacking. If it is obviously damaged,
consult the supplier over whether to proceed.
Make sure the carton is stood upright and open the top.
Remove the fire and examine its general condition.
Check the unit to ensure that the gas type is as specified.
If satisfied by the general condition, place the decorative parts and components to one
side and proceed with the installation. If in any doubt, seek advice from the supplier.

This appliance is very efficient. The burner system is very clean burning; an oxygen
depletion sensor will sense any significant oxygen depletion in the room and shut the fire
down safely.

*The inlet pressure must be within + / - 1mbar specified, with all gas appliances in the
house switched on and also with just the Fire Pod operating. If outside of this tolerance
the fault is most likely to be in the installation pipe work or service governor at the meter.
If the problem is the meter governor, this is the property of the gas service provider (such
as Transco or Bord Gais) and they should be called to rectify this.

The black cable is the electrical feed to the burner, a 3 amp fused spur located
wherever convenient is to be connected between the power supply and the burners
black cable. The Grey or white wire is connected to the hardwire switch which if
used, can be positioned as required. NOTE- DO NOT connect the Hardwire switch to
the mains, as this will damage the unit.
The colour code of the mains is as follows;
Green/Yellow - EARTH
Brown - LIVE
Blue - NEUTRAL
The appliance must be in a position so that the mains supply is accessible for
routine maintenance.
A 3amp fused should be fitted in the plug of fused spur.
WARNING – This appliance must be earthed.

4.6 Installation Instructions
General Requirements
The installation should only be carried out by a CORGI Registered fitter and
in accordance with national and local Regulations for both Gas & Electricity.
The installation must also be in accordance with the relevant parts of local and
national building regulations.
For the Republic of Ireland, reference should be made to IS 813 and ICP3 and
any guidance notes from Bord Gais.
Failure to have the fire fitted by a qualified person nullifies ALL guarantees.
The area the fire is to be installed must have a wall vent of at least 100cm² of
ventilation and an open able window. The vent must be positioned at least 1
metre away from the appliance.
Ventilation openings should never be blocked or restricted in any way.
In the Republic of Ireland two vents, each 60 cm² of free air, one not less that
1.6m above the other, must be installed in the room.
When providing ventilation openings, consideration must be given to the
avoidance of locations where discomfort from draughts may cause the user to
block the openings. Similarly the possibility of curtains or furniture blocking
ventilation openings must be considered.
Floor vents, window vents or chimneys are not suitable means of
ventilation.
On no account must inlet or outlet grilles be obstructed.
The Fire Pod must not be fitted in an internal space of less than 26 m³ in
volume. Adjoining spaces, not separated by a door may be included. To
convert cubic feet (ft³) to cubic metre (m³) divide the room volume in cubic
feet by 35.3
The fire must not be fitted in bed sitting rooms, basements which are not open on
at least one side (an open able window), bathrooms or bedrooms, in corridors,
stairways, landings or hallways of multi occupancy dwellings, garages or rooms
containing petroleum products.
In the event of gas leakage from the appliance, the gas supply must be
turned off at the nearest isolating valve.

Soft furnishings, decorations and wall coverings etc. must not be placed within 1.5
metres of the appliance and its outlets.

the underside of the surround to the floor surface / Hearth
On no account must the inlet or outlet grilles be obstructed. (see below
marked in red).

Be aware of curtains etc. that could be blown towards the appliance.
The fire is intended as a secondary heat source and should not be used as a
primary heat source. Check that a primary heat source (such as radiators) is
present in the room. If insufficient primary heat is being used there may be a build
up of condensation.
The fire must not be used in rooms where the atmosphere is likely to contain
water of chemical vapours that may adversely affect the appliance or its finish.
Do not use while painting or decorating, or in newly decorated rooms as the
residue can lead to unpleasant smells from the appliance. Always cover or have
the appliance removed while decorating.
Houses with warm air heating systems, solid walls, or no damp proof course may
be unsuitable for flueless appliances. There may be an increase in the moisture
content in the air, however if section 308 is adhered to the moisture content will
not be an issue.
This appliance does not contain Asbestos.

Warning; This Appliance must be earthed.
Please Note: The remote system is supplied with both the hard-wired wall mounted
switch and infrared system as standard.
Both options allow full control of the fire. Both options can be used in tandem.
Alternatively the infrared can be used without the wall-mounted switch; vice versa the
wall-mounted switch can be used with out the infrared system.
It is very important when removing one option or the other that it is done correctly in
order for the option left to function correctly on its own.
Note
The wall mounted switch and cable carries low voltage, (20v). The colour code used in
the switch wiring diagrams must not be confused with normal mains colour coding.
Option 1.
•Choosing the infrared system .the following procedure should be carried out.
•Trace the cable on the wall-mounted switch back to the main body of the fire.
Access to the small interphase is via the top cover situated under the burner shell,
this is fastened in place with small counter sunk screws. Once this panel has been
removed you will have access to the junction at the end of the hardwired cable,
this is insulated with insulation tape.
•The tape will need to be removed in order to gain access to the small junction
terminal, there you will find three wires green-yellow / brown / blue.
Important
•Using a small electrician’s screwdriver release all three wires from the terminal
block. It is very important to insulate the terminal before putting the terminal back
in the box.
•Then replace the front cover and continue with the installation.
Option 2.
•If you choose to run the fire without the infrared system and just use the hard-
wired wall mounted switch.
•The following procedure should be followed.
•Trace the infrared sensor back to the firebox. Once you have gained access via
the top cover situated under the burner shell, this is fastened in place with small
counter sunk screws.
•In order to release the small socket you will need a small electricians screwdriver
to prize back the plastic tag on the circuit board that holds the socket in place.

Remote Controls Options
The remote system is supplied with both the hardwired wall switch and infrared system
as standard.
Both options can be used as tandem; alternatively the remote control can be used
without the wall-mounted switch and vice versa.
It is very important when removing an option it is done correctly in order for the option
left to function correctly on its own.

Building and Installation Work
All work carried out must meet all relevant Local and National Regulations.
A CORGI Registered person must carry out all gas work and can only be
commissioned by a CORGI Registered person.
Building work
Building work should only commence after a thorough survey of the intended
location and that it has been established that the unit can be installed and
operated without risk to the owner or tenants of the property or their neighbours.
Installation Procedures
It is important that any existing gas supply is checked and must meet regulations
before installation.
If there is an existing chimney in the room then the opening must be sealed up.
The Flueless Fire Pod is designed to fit into a recessed opening this can be
constructed by brick, stone or timber frame to Local and National Regulations.
The opening must be constructed using heat resistant materials.
The unit is to be placed into a non-combustible opening of minimum 12mm
thickness. The surface on which the appliance is to be mounted must be flat,
level and square to the recessed panel. Be aware of the type of wall coverings,
as some wall coverings are more prone to discolour than others.
Care must be taken to the route of the gas and electrics taking note of where the
fixing screws for the recessed plate.
NOTE – The gas is to be routed to the left side of the unit with the electrics to the
right side. This is to come in through the back of the recessed plate shown
below.

Before connecting any pipes to the appliance, fully purge pipes of debris or swarf
etc. and connect the gas supply to the 8mm isolation valve on the fire. Leak test
the supply using an approved method.
After the gas and electrics have been positioned the recessed plate is to be fixed in
place via the holes provided at each end of the recessed plate. Ensure that the
plate is securely attached with the gas; electric supply and switch cables safely
routed through.

When the gas and electrics have been connected check all wiring and gas
work is safe before switching the appliance on.
The unit can be tested for soundness and electrical workings without the
fascia, but the fascia must be fitted when testing the flame picture and
lighting times. (See commissioning)

The fascia supplied with the appliance must be used. Any other type could affect
combustion or overheat the gas controls.
If fitting over an existing fireplace, the flue and cavity MUST be blocked off completely to
prevent suction on the back of the appliance The top of the flue should also be capped off
to prevent the entry of moisture etc. consult building control if in any doubt.
Any under grate draught devices must be sealed off.
A hearth will be required in accordance with both CORGI and Local regulations on a non-
combustible surface.
Clearances to Combustible Materials and Shelves
A non-combustible shelf may be fitted to within 1000mm of the top edge of the outlet
of the fire. Note that shelves will get hot and delicate ornaments; wax candles etc.
should be kept away from hot surfaces.
As with all flueless fires the possibility of convection staining on surfaces in the vicinity
above the fire outlet shall be considered and the user advised.
Particular attention should be taken to ensure soft furnishings such as scatter
cushions, rugs and curtains be kept at least 1.5 metres from the appliance.
