1. Main de cription.
The SPM-12 Cont olle is an unive sal 12-channel conve te DMX-512 signal to DC
voltage signals / PWM. To the Q1-Q12 outputs of d ive diodes can be connected, o LED
st ip white and colo , as well as elays and othe devices cont olled by PWM signals o
continuously-voltage. Load output is 3A pe channel. If you need to supply mo e cu ent
eceive s use additional deg ees of powe .
On the Figu e 1 the p ope way of wi ing the powe supply and eceive – LED diodes to
cont ol SPM-12 is shown. Remembe to pick up the powe cables of sufficient diamete
elative to a flowing cu ent - bold lines in Figu e 1.
Fig 1. Gene al a angement and dimensions of the SPM-12 d ive .
Afte connecting the powe supply cont olle sta ts DMX-512 the signal eceiving and
cont ol the outputs Q1-Q12. The g een LED diode signalize the attendance of DMX-512
signal by fast blinking. While the lack of DMX-512 signal the g een diode doesn’t blink, just
light in the continuous way. The yellow LED diode is off in the egula mode of cont olle
wo k.

2. SPM-12 controller configuration.
The SPM-12 cont olle is a device f eely p og ammable by the use . Configu ation
consists of ente ing the d ive cont ol 3 digit code (000 to 999), which dete mine the
ope ation of the cont olle . To ente the codes 2 buttons have to be used ma ked as CODE and
PLUS and also 2 signalization diodes – g een and yellow, as shown in the Figu e 1.
The meaning off all stee ing codes is mention in table 1 on page 6 of this manual.
Typically, co ect and complete configu ation of the d ive SPM-12 equi es to type a few
cont ol codes. This is the co ect action f om the use pa t.
2.1. Method of entering the code to SPM-12 controller.
To ente the code to the d ive SPM-12 button CODE need to be p essed. The g een diode
will light off and the yellow one will light on.
Ente ing the fi st digit of code:
Button PLUS need to be p ess as many times as the fi st digit of code is f om 0 to 9.
Eve y p ess is signalize by a sho t blinking of g een diode.
Afte set in the fi st digit, button CODE need to be p ess one mo e time.
The yellow diode will blink (light off fo half a second and light on again)
which is the signal to ente the second digit of code.
Ente ing the second digit of code:
Button PLUS need to be p ess as many times as the second digit of code is f om 0 to 9.
Eve y p ess is signalize by a sho t blinking of g een diode.
Afte set in the second digit button CODE need to be p ess one mo e time.
The yellow diode will blink and it is the signal to set in the thi d digit.
Ente ing the thi d digit of code:
Button PLUS need to be p ess as many times as the thi d digit of code is f om 0 to 9.
Eve y p ess is signalize by a sho t blinking of g een diode.
Afte set in the thi d digit button CODE need to be p ess one mo e time.
The yellow diode will light off and the g een one light on – this is the signal
that the code is eady.
Afte ente ing the code SPM-12 cont olle passes fo egula ope ation, and to cont ol the
outputs Q1-Q12 in the manne which is set out the cu ent configu ation – by cont ol codes.
In o de to ente anothe code, p oceed simila ly as desc ibed above. The same code can
be ente ed multiple times, which has no negative influence to the ope ation of the cont olle .
Not all the codes (available f om ange 000-999) a e used. When set in the codes which
has no function it will not change the wo k of cont olle . This kind of code is signalized as the
inco ect code by a t iple blinking of yellow diode just afte set-in all th ee digits of code.
Ale set-in codes a e emembe ed in EEPROM memo y of SPM-12 cont olle . Lack of
powe doesn’t cause losing the settings made by CODE and PLUS buttons.
If any time, while configu ation, the buttons CODE and PLUS will be not p essed by 1
minute, SPM-12 automatically stop configu ation and goes to the egula wo k.

SPM-12 configu ation desc ibed above allows you to ente configu ation codes without
the possibility of the subsequent p eview, fo example to check if the function is active o not.
If you fo get the function the code need to be e-ente .
Howeve , eading the DMX add ess value can be ve y useful, that is why the e was
int oduced the possibility of viewing the add ess in the d ive SPM-12, see point 2.2.
2.2. Preview of DMX addre SPM-12 driver.
To p eview the DMX add ess of cont olle the button PLUS need to be p essed fo 1
second. G een diode will light off and yellow will light on.
P eview of fi st digit of DMX-512 add ess:
G een diode will blink as many times as the fi st digit of DMX add ess is f om 0 to 5.
Than yellow diode blinks once (light off fo half a second and light on again)
which is the signal fo display the second digit.
P eview of second digit of DMX-512 add ess:
G een diode will blink as many times as the second digit of DMX add ess is f om 0 to 9.
Than yellow diode blinks once (light off fo half a second and light on again)
which is the signal fo display the thi d digit.
P eview of thi d digit of DMX-512 add ess:
G een diode will blink as many times as the thi d digit of DMX add ess is f om 0 to 9.
Yellow diode will light off – DMX add ess is ead off.
Afte the 2 seconds f om eading DMX add ess in SPM-12 cont olle sta ts egula wo k,
which means stee ing the outputs Q1-Q12 in equested wo k by the cont ol codes.

Code Function / Parameter / Value
001 … 512
DMX add ess of SPM-12 cont olle
610 SPM-12 wo k as without DMX-512 signal - active codes 630 ... 635
611 Outputs wo k Q1-Q12 in PWM mode:
DMX = 0..255 – Q = PWM 0..100%
612 Outputs wo k Q1-Q12 in DC mode:
DMX = 0..127 - Q = OFF / DMX = 128..255 - Q = ON
620 DIMMER OFF – function DIMMER is tu n off
621 DIMMER ON 1 – function DIMMER is active – 0=min 255=max b ightness
622 DIMMER ON 2 – function DIMMER is active – 0=max 255=min b ightness
630 No eaction fo lack of DMX signal – keeping the last value of outputs Q1-Q12
631 Afte lack of DMX signal – display effect
632 Afte lack of DMX signal – tu n off all of outputs: Q1-Q12 = OFF
633 Afte lack of DMX signal – 20% PWM signals on Q1-Q12
634 Afte lack of DMX signal – 50% PWM signals on Q1-Q12
635 Afte lack of DMX signal – tu n on all of outputs: Q1-Q12 = ON
2.3. De cription of configuration code of SPM-12.
Basic stee ing codes which need to be set-in to SPM-12 cont olle is the add ess of DMX
cont olle , it means one code fo m ange 001 to 512. When use ente any code f om 001 to
512 it will cause automatic change the p evious value fo m this ange and memo ize new
add ess od DMX in memo y cont olle .
DMX add ess indicate numbe of channel in stee ing signal of DMX-512, f om whe e the
stee ing datas of outputs Q1-Q12 a e collect. The cont olle ’s Q1-Q12 outputs will be eacting
on the values f om DMX channels numbe ed sequentially f om address DMX to
address DMX + 11.
Second impo tant pa amete is the manne of output’s wo k Q1-Q12.
These outputs can be configu ed to wo k in PWM mode – code 611 o in bistable DC status
(ON/OFF) – code 612.
In PWM mode, the outputs Q1-Q12 PWM wavefo ms a e gene ated by filling p opo tional to
the value of DMX channel co esponding to output:
- PWM = 0..100% of the value of DMX channel = 0..255
In bistable mode DC (ON/OFF) outputs Q1-Q12 have only two states:
- OFF - tu n off, when DMX value of output stee ing channels is f om 0 to 127 ange
- ON - tu n on, when DMX value of output stee ing channels is f om 128 to 255 ange
Afte ente the code 610 the SPM-12 will not eact on DMX-512 signal even when this
signal pass on in DMX+ and DMX- inputs. Reaction of SPM-12 cont olle will be the same
as in lack of DMX-512 signal on inputs – see desc iption codes 630...635.

DAGON Lighting SPM-12 – controller DMX-512 – 12 OUT DC / PWM
7
Codes 621 and 622 activates function DIMMER available only in PWM mode, usually
used fo stee ing the LED b ightness connected to outputs Q1- Q12.
DIMMER function allows fo b ightness egulation of all outputs at the same time by using
only one DMX-512 channel, and activate additional 13 DMX channel with add ess
address DMX + 12, whe e address DMX is code f om 001..512 ange – see above.
When the signal DMX-512 inc eased fo code 621, the b ightness of LED will also
inc eased.
When the signal DMX-512 inc eased fo code 622, the b ightness of LED will dec eased.
If the function DIMMER is not necessa y code 620 need to be ente to tu n it off and
elease the 13 channel DMX.
Codes 630 to 635 settle the way of eaction SPM-12 cont olle fo lack of DMX-512
signal. One second afte lack of DMX-512 signal take place the eaction dete mine by the
ente code.
The e-appe ance of DMX-512 signal at the inputs DMX+ and DMX- an immediate
etu n to the cont ol outputs Q1-Q12 data f om the eceived signal DMX-512 (except when
code 610 is ente ed fo cing the d ive SPM-12 to wo k without the DMX signal).
The way of esponse of SPM-12 d ive fo DMX signal loss fo the individual codes is
desc ibed in Table 1.
The demonst ation effect fo the code 631 is smoothly dimming and lightening of LEDs
connected to the outputs Q1-Q12 in an alte nate d ive fo the outputs of odd and even
numbe s, and with the ave age b ightness LEDs.
Some combinations of input cont ol codes a e especially notewo thy, eg:
- Ente ing codes 610 and 630 will continuous disable the state outputs Q1-Q12 ( ega dless of
DMX-512 signal), because afte the eboot powe all outputs of cont olle SPM-12 a e eset,
code 630 does not change the output status, and the code 610 p events eceiving
the DMX-512 signal;
- Ente ing codes 610 and 633 will gene ate a continuous PWM signal at the outputs of the
fulfillment of 20%, eg dim the LEDs connected to the outputs Q1-Q12;
- Ente ing codes 612 fo cing the wo k of
Q1-Q12 in DC
mode should not be link with 631,
633, 634 codes, because in case of loss of DMX-512 signal at the outputs of the PWM
wavefo m will appea , which may cause malfunction of eceive s designed to cont ol DC
(ON / OFF), such as elay coils;
2.4. Example configuration of the controller SPM-12:
001 - add ess DMX = 1 (add ess of output Q1 = 1, add ess of output Q12 = 12)
611 - outputs wo k Q1-Q12 in PWM mode
621 - DIMMER active on channel numbe 13th - DMX
631 - display effect is active while lack of DMX-512 signal
These 4 codes need to be set in into SPM-12 to ensu e wo k in equested way.
Sequence of ente ing the codes is optional.

3. Safety and correct condition of u ing SPM-12 controller.
- comply with powe supply conditions acco ding to technical datas
- fo connection diodes and powe supply to outputs Q1-Q12 have to be use wi es with
the diamete huge enough, depends on elect ic cu ent
- to connect the DMX-512 should be used special DMX shielded cable
- all wi es need to be p otect against mechanical and the mal damages
- all the ope ation with connecting wi es and assembly have to be ca y out with
disconnected powe supply
- all the equipment need to be p otect against wate and humidity
- do not use lightning stee ing by the SPM-12 d ive close to the apidly otating
equipment o it’s elements; it may cause the st oboscope’s effects what may cause the
stillness effect on the otating equipment’s which is light by impulse lights;
it may cause dange ous situation fo life and healthy.
