13.0 MAINTENANCE:
13.1 Tube Replacement
When should I eplace tubes? This is a ha d one to answe as in this unit you
tubes should last depending on use fo a long pe iod of time. If you hea unusu-
al sounds, squeals, o have low audio output, o disto ted output, it is time to
conside eplacing the tubes. You DARED Deale may assist. Replace tubes
always with the same model numbe and place them in the same location.
13.2 Regular Care
Keep the unit clean and f ee of dust.
Always tu n of powe and let the tubes cool befo e cleaning the tube a ea and
unit.
Vacuum tubes may be emoved easily with a gentle jiggle while lifting the tube
upwa ds out of its socket. Use the same method when e-installing the tubes.
Only touch when cool.
When cool the vacuum tubes may be cleaned with a soft and slightly dampened
mic ofibe cloth.
The case may be cleaned with a slightly sampled mic ofibe cloth and then pol-
ished using a sepa ate d y soft mic ofibe cloth.
If you continue to experience difficulty and cannot solve your
issue or have other proble s, contact your Authorized
DARED Dealer for assistance.

12. 0 Basic Troubleshooting
8.9 Reset to Factory Default: This deletes all sto ed settings, stations, sets the
RD-1 back to facto y default. In “SYSTEM SETUP” Mode, Select “FACTORY RESET”.
8.10 Software Version: The fi mwa e evision level may be checked when e-
qui ed. In “SYSTEM SETUP” Model, Select “SW VERSION”. The f/w ve sion will be
displayed
9.0 Bluetooth Streaming audio from your mobile device to the RD-1 using it as a
Bluetooth Speaker: To connect to you mobile device, p ess and hold down the
volume cont ol until “Bluetooth” is displayed. (O select the Bluetooth key on the Re-
mote.) Tu n on the Bluetooth function on you mobile device and have it sea ch fo
Bluetooth Devices. When “DARED RETRO RADIO” appea s on the list, highlight and
select to connect. Choose you music sou ce. P ess play on you mobile device’s appli-
cation. NOTE: Conve sations f om mobile phones will not play and be hea d on the RD
-1.
10.0 Using a Headphone: Connect you Headphone using a 3.5mm ste eo jack to
the headphone input on the back of RD-1. Sound will be played th ough the headphone
instead of the RD-1.
11.0 Using the Pre-Amplifier Output: The RD-1 may be used as an Audio Compo-
nent when connected to an audio system. Use an RCA Cable to connect f om the Out-
put te minals on the back of RD-1 to the input of you system. The Output level f om
the RD-1 is fixed and whe e the volume cont ol on the RD-1 will not affect the signal
output. You may use the volume cont ol on the RD-1 to minimize o tu n off completely
the sound f om the RD-1’s speake s. Using the Mute Key on the Remote will silence
both the RD-1’s speake s as well as the signal out to you amplifie .

OTHER SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
1. AL AYS disconnect you enti e system f om the AC mains befo e con-
necting o disconnecting any cables, o when cleaning any component. To
completely disconnect this appa atus f om the AC mains, disconnect the
powe supply co d plug f om the AC eceptacle.
2. NEVER use flammable o combustible chemicals fo cleaning audio com-
ponents.
3. NEVER wet the inside of this component with any liquid. If a liquid sub-
stance does ente you unit, immediately disconnect it f om the AC mains and
take it to you DARED Deale fo inspection.
4. NEVER spill o pou liquids di ectly onto this component.
5. NEVER block ai flow th ough ventilation slots o heat sinks.

7.5 Audio Setting: Selecting Ste eo o Mono Ope ation: Select the FM Mode.
P ess the MENU key, the display will show “Audio Setting”: P ess the Ente key, Use
the Channel +/- key to sc oll between “Mono” o “Ste eo”. P ess the Ente key to con-
fi m.
7.6 Selecting the Line Input/AUX Source: Line In and AUX mode is used fo se-
lecting t aditional audio components such as a CD playe connected to you RD-1.
P ess inwa ds and hold down the volume cont ol knob until eithe “LINE” o “AUX” is
seen on the display, o p ess the LINE o AUX button on the Remote to select.
7.7 Built-in Audio Equalizer, (EQ): 5 P esets positions a e available fo you to tai-
lo the audio output f equency: “Bass Boost”, “Jazz”, “Live”, “Vocal Acoustic”, and “EQ
Off”. To ente this mode, P ess the “EQ” button on the Remote. Use the Channel +/- key
to sc oll though the setting. P ess the ENTER button to select.
7.8 Display Dimmer: P ess the DIMMER button on the f ont panel o the DIMMER
Key on the Remote epeatedly to sc oll and adjust the b ightness setting to you liking.
7.9 Mute: P ess the MUTE key on the Remote to inte upt and silence the audio
output on the speake s o Line Out. P ess MUTE a second time to disable this function.
7.10 Clock: Once eithe the DAB/DAB+ o the RDS FM Radio has scanned and
egiste ed its stations and updated the RD-1’s CPU, o the time has been set manually,
p essing this button on the Remote will display time and date.
8.0 SYSTEM SET-UP, OPTIONS for Clock Set-up, Language, DAB/DAB+ Delete
and Changing Station Pre-set Order. Fo these functions, Select the DAB/DAB+ o
FM Radio Modes using the Remote. Use the Channel +/- key on the Remote until you
see “SYSTEM SET” appea s on the display. P ess the Ente key.
8.1 Time/Date Set-up: When in the “ System Set” mode, sc oll though the menus
using the Channel +/- key on the Remote until “TIME SET” appea s. Fu the sc olling
allows you to select among: “Set Clock”, “Set Date”, “Auto Update” (Using DAB o
RDS), AND “12/24 Hou Fo mat”.
8.2 Set Time: Select “ Set Clock” , the cu ent system time will be displayed with
the “Hou ’s digit” flashing. Use the Channel +/- key to adjust the hou . P ess Ente to set
and move to next digit. Repeat the p ocess until the time is set. P ess Ente to Save.
8.3 Setting Date: Select the “ Set Date” mode. The cu ent system date will appea
with the fi st digit of the P e-set Day flashing. Use the Sea ch +/- buttons o Channel +/
- keys to maneuve th ough the date set up. P ess the Select button o Ente key to
Save.
8.4 Auto (Time) Update: Automatically s ynch onizes the clock using the DAB+
Digital B oadcast Info mation (available only in a eas whe e DAB+ is available).
8.5 Set 12/24 Hour Format: Allows you to set the clock to eithe a 12 o 24
(milita y) hou fo mat.
8.6 Language Setting: Choose between “ English” , “ T aditional Chinese” , and
“Simplified Chinese”.
8.7 Delete Station: (Only for DAB/DAB+): Allows one to emove f om the adio’s
memo y a digital station that is no longe available. Pa k on the station to be emoved.
(1) Select “SYSTEM SETUP” Mode; (2) Select ”PRUNE STATION”; (4) Then P ess
Select o Ente to Confi m.
8.8 Station Order (Only for DAB/DAB+ Digital Radio Modes): Allows you to con-
figu e how the digital adio stations a e displayed. In “SYSTEM< SETUP” Mode, Select
“STATION ORDER”. Select among: “Multiplex”, “Alphanume ic”, and “Active” o de fo -
mat.

7.0 BASIC OPERATION
With all connections made and secu ed, you a e now steps away f om enjoying the
sound quality of the RD-1. Also it is a good idea to re ove the back cover with pow-
er disconnected to ensure that the tubes are seated properly before connecting to
AC power, just in case they beca e loose in shipping.
Then tu n on you RD-1 in the following manne : A. Switch the main ocke
switch labeled “POWER” to the (ON) position on the Rea Panel. The Display will
show a sta t up message: “Wa m Up”. The e is a 20 second delay befo e all the
tubes a e ope ating no mally, this is called a “Soft Sta t” to inc ease the longevity of
the tubes. Allow the unit to wa m up fo anothe 1-2 minutes befo e using.
B. While the unit is wa ming up make su e the Volume Cont ol is tu ned counte -
clockwise, to a lowe level.
C. Select the Sou ce Input by using the Remote Cont ol selecting the desi ed input.
Adjust the volume cont ol to the desi ed sound level. NOTE: For the first 480 hours
play your selected usic at a nor al listening levels at first to further burn in the
tubes and all co ponents.
Note: The VU Meter using the CATS Eye tube on the front face of the unit will ove

7.1 Using the DAB/DAB+ Digital Radio, Basic Operation
Select <DAB/DAB+> as the Input Sou ce eithe using the Remote. Du ing initial use,
the eceive will scan fo all available DAB channels. At any time you may p ess the
SCAN button to escan.
P ess the Channel +/- keys on the Remote to change channels. When the desi ed
channel is displayed, p ess the ENTER key on the Remote.
7.1.1 Saving Desired Stations into Memory: When you station that you wish to
save is displayed, p ess and hold down the Nume ical key on the Remote’s key-
boa d until “PRESET “X”” appea s on the adio’s display.
7.1.2 Selecting Stored Channels in DAB/DAB+ mode: P ess the PRESET key
once. A sto ed channel will be displayed. (A) Use the Channel +/- on the Remote
until you see the desi ed station. Then p ess the Ente key to confi m.
(B) Alte natively, one may p ess the co esponding channel numbe on the nume ical
keypad on the emote.
7.1.3 Radio Information: When listening to the DAB/DAB+ Digital Radio,
p essing the INFO key epeatedly will display the Station and Channels details such
as “Channel Info mation, Signal St ength, Bit ate, Signal E o , and Time.”
7.2 Using the FM Radio, Basic Operation
Select the FM Radio as a sou ce. Using the Channel +/- keys on the emote will allow
you manually tune in a station.
By holding down these keys will automatically see the tune sea ch fo a station
and then stop when found.
7.3 Saving the Stations
7.3.1 Selecting Stored Channels: P ess the PRESET button once. A sto ed
channel will be displayed. P ess the Channel +/- key to go though the sto ed p eset
channels. P ess the SELECT button o ENTER key to confi m. One may also make
a nume ical ent y using the keypad on the emote.
7.4 Radio Information: When listening to an FM station, by p essing the INFO
key on the f ont panel o on the emote will display RDS info mation such as the
Channel P ope ty, Station Signal St ength o Time.

6. NEVER bypass any fuse o eplace any fuse with a value o type othe
than those specified.
7. NEVER expose the RD-1 to ext emely high o low tempe atu es. If the
RD-1 has been taken out of sto age f om an unheated envi onment, let the
unit acclimate to oom tempe atu e befo e making any connections and
applying powe to the unit.
8. AL AYS keep elect ical equipment out of each of child en.
Do not handle the tubes when hot, o wet them.
Only touch the tubes only when they a e cold and the unit is unplugged
f om its sou ce of AC Powe .
9. AL AYS unplug sensitive elect onic equipment such as this unit
du ing lightning sto ms.
10. DISCONNECT f om AC powe sou ce when not used fo long
pe iods.

4.0 Installation & Placement
The RD-1 as is the case with any tube equipped device is mo e sensitive
than most othe types of audio components to EMI (elect o-magnetic inte -
fe ence) f om powe supplies and moto s including vib ation. Consequent-
ly, it should be placed at a minimum distance of 18 inches f om powe sup-
plies, tu ntables, tape decks, AC line filte s, etc..
One should neve place anothe component di ectly on top of this integ at-
ed amplifie , and as good p actice, it is not ecommended to di ectly place
this component on anothe audio component that gene ates heat.
NEVER PLACE THIS COMPONENT ON TOP OF A LOUDSPEAKER.
Vib ation picked up by the tubes will damage them and sho ten thei useful
life.
When d essing cables, take ca e as to tuck away loose cables so someone
may not t ip on them.
Allow also fo ample ai ci culation a ound the RD-1.

6.0 SYSTEM CONNECTIONS
6.1 The RD-1 is a stand alone Radio with built-in speake s but does p ovide
fo connection to othe audio components that you may wish to use.
(Example: CD Playe connected to Line Input via a pai of good quality RCA
te minated shielded cables.) The RD-1 also has a p e-amplifie output. You
may also use the RD-1 to connect to you sma tphone device and whe e the
RD-1 acts as Bluetooth Speake . (mo e on this late )
6.2 Connect the Radio to the antenna supplied with the RD-1.
6.3 With all input and output connections made, select the p ope input AC
mains Voltage by sliding the voltage selecto to the p ope AC Voltage setting.
6.4 Use the supplied AC powe cable connecting it to the IEC eceptacle
located on the ea panel of the integ ated amplifie ’s chassis. Ensu e that the
AC wall outlet you use has a functioning g ound. Then, it is p efe able that
you plug you RD-1 into a su ge supp esso powe ba used as well fo you
othe audio components, then best is to connect this di ectly into a dedicated
AC outlet. Best to avoid using an extension co d.
NOTE: In o de to obtain the maximum pe fo mance f om you audio system
we st ongly ecommend that the detachable powe co d does not come into
physical contact with any of the inte connect cables unning to and f om you
RD-1. In the event that this can’t be avoided, you should ensu e that any ca-
bles coming into contact with each othe a e c ossed at ninety deg ee angle to
minimize the contact a ea.
