Precautions during installation
•Connect the AC Adapter
Connect the AC adapter to the computer and
then plug it into a wall outlet or surge protector.
CAUTION: The AC adapter works with
electrical outlets worldwide. However,
power connectors and power strips vary
among countries. Using an incompatible
cable or improperly connecting the cable to
a power strip or electrical outlet may cause
fire or equipment damage.
•Check the Wireless Switch
If you plan to use wireless connections, make
sure the wireless switch is in the “On” position.

Precautions while using your dell
•Device Status Lights
The device status lights located at the front left
of the computer provide information for wireless
communication and keyboard input options.
1. Power light – Turns on when you
turn on the computer, and blinks when the
computer is in a power management
mode.
2. Hard drive activity light – Turns
on when the computer reads or writes
data. A flashing light indicates hard drive
activity.
NOTE: To avoid loss of data, never
turn off the computer while the hard
drive activity light is flashing.
3. Battery status light – Turns on
steadily or blinks to indicate battery
charge status.

bay. When you unpack your computer, look for the
CD-ROM drive in the accessories box of the shipping
carton.

About the Batteries
A lithium ion battery in the battery bay is standard with the computer, and provides
power when an
electrical outlet is not available. To double battery life, install a
second battery in the modular bay.

Slide the battery into the bay until the latch release clicks.

Checking the Battery Charge
To check the charge level, press the battery test button that is next to the lights
(see Figure 2). The number of lights that appear shows an estimate of the remaining
battery charge (see Table 1).

The battery charge gauge consists of five lights. Each light represents 20 percent of
full charge. If only one light appears, recharge the battery before using it.

WARRANTY
Coverage During Three Years
Dell will provide, on an exchange basis and subject to Dell's Exchange
Policy in effect on the date of the exchange, replacement parts
for the Dell
hardware product(s) covered under this limited warranty when a part
requires replacement. You must report each instance of hardware failure to
Dell's Customer Technical Support in advance to Dell will include a
prepaid shipping container with
each replacement part for your use in
returning the replaced part to Dell. Replacement parts are new or
reconditioned. Dell may provide replacement parts made by various
manufacturers when supplying parts to you. The warranty term for a
replacement part is the remainder of the limited warranty term.
You will pay Dell for replacement parts if the replaced part is not returned
to Dell. The process for returning replaced parts, and your obligation to pay
for replacement parts if you do not return the replaced
parts to Dell, will be
in accordance with Dell.
