• If the BHT fails to read due to specular effects or other
factors, cha ge the sca i g a gle of the readi g wi -
dow or the dista ce from codes as show at right, a d
try it agai . (Specular effects occur whe the reflec-
tio of the light from the bar code becomes exces-
sively stro g. This ca easily happe whe the re-
flecti g surface is polished or covered with vi yl.)
• The laser light i dicates the sca i g ra ge as a guide. The i dicated sca i g
ra ge will deviate a little bit from the actual o e. Keep the BHT so that the laser
light comes to almost the ce ter of the bar code height.
• The BHT ca read bar codes at a maximum dista ce of 40 cm (15.7")** from the
bar-code readi g wi dow. (**For details about the sca i g co ditio s, refer to
the Appe dix A.)
•
Before reading bar codes, clean those labels if stained.
•
Avoid using the BHT in direct sunlight. The BHT might fail to read correctly.
•
To read bar codes on curved surfaces, apply the BHT to the target bar code so that the
code comes to the center of the scanning range indicated by the laser beam.
•
When you pull the bar-code reading window away from the bar codes, the actual
scanning range will become narrower than the range covered by the laser beam.
•
The light intensity of the laser light or illumination LED will vary depending upon
the scanning conditions and variation of their elements.
1.1 Reading Bar Codes
Tur o the BHT power, bri g the bar-code readi g wi dow to the bar code to be
sca ed, a d press the trigger switch. The BHT emits a laser light to i dicate the
sca i g ra ge a d tur s o the illumi atio LED to sca the bar code. Keep the BHT
i a positio where the bar code lies withi the sca i g ra ge i dicated by the laser
light (marker).
Whe the BHT has read the bar code successfully, the i dicator LED will illumi ate i
gree .
