may reduce air flow.
Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all partsof body away from openings and moving parts.
Do not pick up anythingthat is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
Do not use without dust bag and/or filters in place.
Turn off all controls before unplugging.
Use extra care when cleaningon stairs.
Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids, such as gasoline, or use inareas where they may be present.
Keep the vacuum cleaner on the floor. Only the hand-heldvacuum cleaners may be set on furniture.
Cleaner must be inthe upright positionto liftthe rotatingbrushoff the carpetwhen doing above floor cleaning.
Do not use an extension cordwith this vacuum cleaner.
Store the vacuum cleaner indoors. Put the vacuum cleaner away after use to preventtripping accidents.
Using impropervoltage may result in damage to the motor and possible injuryto the user. Propervoltage is listedon the
cleaner plate.
Only use attachments and hoses recommended by the manufacturer.Use the vacuum cleaner only as stated in this manual.

HOWTO ASSEMBLE
TOOL REQUIRED: PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER
1. Stand unit inupright positionand place upperhandleonto upright(Diagram 1).
2. Hold
mrd downand out ofthe way to avoidpinching. P ushupperhandle
ontD uptight, aligning
onloff switch with handleope ning(Diagram 2).
3. BACK OF UPRIGHT add TWO screws (supplied)tosecure handle(Diagram 3).

HOSE ASSEMBLY AND TOOL STORAGE
I. ATTACH HOSE: Attach the flexible hosetothe cleaner (Diagram I).Matchthe longarrow on the cuffto the arrow on the inlet (Diagram la).
Pushdownfirmly on the cuff and
turn clockwise. Insertthe hosehandle intothe side of the cleaner. Press downfirmly to secure(Diagram
2).
2. ATTACH TOOLS: Referto page 4 (Fig. 4 or 5) for tool placement.
3. CORD STORAGE: Fortidy cord storage, wrap cord aroundhwkson sideofcleanerwith quick cord release(Diagram 2).

CARPET SETTINGS
NOTE: The cleanermaybein the upright or operating position to adjust carpet setting.
1. Adjusting in the upright position: Rotatethe knobto the desired setting.
NOTE: The knob will rotate easily. Your settingisworking
(Diagraml).Oncethecarpet setting isselected, and thecleaner placedintheoperating position, the setting
will be inthe c orredposition.
2.
Adjusting in the operating position: Rotatethe knobto the desired setting.
NOTE: The knob willrotate with some resistance. The
nozzlewill raiseand lowerasthe knobis rotated.
HOW TO OPERATE
1. Plugcord intoelectricaloutlet.
2. Turn cleaner "on". Power pedallocatedon left side of backof unit(Diagram2).
3. Withfoot, depressthe handlerelease pedalon the right side ofthe cleaningnozzle (Diagram3).
NOTE: Rotatingbrush couldcause area rugfringe to become tangled within cleaner. Use caution when vacuuming throwrugs
with fringe.
*FOR POWER EDGE'"CLEANING: Remove Power Edger " from lower back panel. Inzert Power Edger "into desired Power Edger
" slot.
Removehoseendfromsideof unitandhosecaddy. Slide hoseendonto Power Edger
. Glidethe uprightagainstwalls and baseboardsfor
superioredge cleaning(Diagram4).
ABOVE FLOOR CLEANING
Cleaner must be in the upright positionto lift the rotating brush off the carpetwhen cleaning above the floor.
1.
Putcleanerin its uprightposition.
2. Removethe hosefrom theside of the cleaner usingthe handle(Diagram
1).
3. Chooseany of the handyaccessoriesor usethe hosealone. Simplypushthe attachmentfirmly ontothe end ofthewand or hose
handle.To removetool, twist and pullapart gently.
*4. If additional length is neededusethe Extensionwand.
*STRETCH HOSE" AND HOSE ANCHOR: The Hose Anchor is usedto prevent the vacuumfrom tippingwhile usingthe above
floorcleaningattachments. Removethe hosefromthe sideofthe cleaner usingthe handle. Layhoseoverthe backofthe cleaner (Diagram
2) andsecure hoseanchor ring(Diagram3a) locatedaroundhose to base. Pull hosefrom hose handle for additional length(Diag ram 3b).
EXTENSIONWAND: Removewand from side of cleaner by pullingout at thetopto unsnapand pull up (Diagram4).

PAPER BAG REMOVAL & REPLACEMENT
NOTE: Unplugcleanerbefore changingpaperbag. Cleanermusthavepaperbaginplace atalltimes.
You cantellyour bagneedsreplacingwhenyouexperience
less suctionwhen the*full bagindicatorchangestoyellow or if the clogindicator
light illuminates(see
pg. 3). Do not exceed markedfill lineon paper bag. Different types ofdirt mayrequirebagreplaceme nt moreoften.
* FULL BAG INDICATOR Whenthefull bag indicatorwindow changestoyellow, it may betimefor a new paper bag. Checkthe
paperbag, and iffull, replaceas described below. If not, the cleaner may havea cloggeddirt passage(see
"T rouble Shooting" pg. 9).
TO REMOVE OLD BAG
1. Pullreleaselever onfront panelto removefront panel(Diagram 1). 2.
REMOVE: Grasp cardboard collarof paperbagwith both hands
and pullpast raisedlockingtabs on the dirt tube (Diagram2). Disposeofold paperbag.
TO INSTALL NEW BAG
IMPORTANT: Expandbagaway from hole beforeinstalling(Diagram 3). Pressin openingto clear paperaway from hole. 1. Gripcardboard
collarand push past raisedlockingtabs ondirt tube with bothhands(Diagram4). 2. Foldbag inwardabout
3 from bottomto r est ontop
of bagsupport posts (Diagram 5). Reattachfront panel.
FILTER PADS REMOVAL & REPLACEMENT Unplugcleaner beforechangingfilter.

TO REMOVE BELT Flipcleaner to expose nozzlebase as shown in (Diagram 1). To remove nozzlecover, use Phillips screwdriver
to removethefour screws. Arrows indiagram 1show locationofscrews. Flipcleanerback over andlift nozzlecoveroff. Slid e beltoff motor
sh ft (Diagram2).
Lift and removebrushroll (Diagram3). Disposeof old belt.

TO REPLACE BELT
1. Placebelt on motorshaft, then slip brushrollthrough belt. Placebelt inarea of brushrollwithout bristles(Diagram4).
2. With beltinplace, pull and slide brushrollinto node(Diagram 3) makingsure that the brushrollend caps are inthe cor rect orientation
(Diagram3a inset).
IMPORTANT: Rotatebrushroll manuallyin bothdirectionsto make sure belt isnottwisted and is properlyaligned.
3. Reattachnozzlecover. Secureby replacingthe screws underthe nozzlebase.
BELT STORAGE
See page 4. (fig. 4) - stretch belt around hooks. (fig. 5) - fold and secure belt (in a u shape) on the insideof the loops on the back of the

LIGHTBULB* REMOVAL & REPLACEMENT
TOOL REQUIRED: FLATHEADSCREWDRIVER

- UNPLUGCLEANER BEFORE REMOVINGOR REPLACINGLIGHTBULB.
This cleaner uses a commonautomotive lamp#906, 13.0 volts. For bulb replacementcall 1-800-321-1 134 or your localauto parts store.

9, Diagram 1). Leancleaner handleback. Insertend of standardscrewdriver intothe side slot a nd Ply
outwardto pop headlight lensout.
2. Pullbulb out of socket to remove. Push bulbintosocketto replace(Diagram2).
3. Snap headlightlens panelback intoplace. Reattachfront panel.
HOWTO TRANSPORT CLEANER
Usethe carryinghandleon the back ofthe cleanerto movecleanerfrom room to room (Diagram3).
