MANUFACTURER'S PASSENGER CAR WARRANTY
Chrysler Corporation, as manufacturer, warrants each new
passenger cor manufactured by it, including all equipment or
accessories (except tires) manufactured or supplied by it, to
be free from defects in material and workmanship under
normal use and service for twelve thousand (12,000) miles
of operation or twelve (12) months after delivery to the
original purchaser, whichever event occur. Arst.
In addition, Chrysler Corporation warranls the engine
block, head and all internal engine parts, waler pump,
intake manifold, transmission case and all internal trans ·
mission parts, torque converter (if so equipped), drive
shaft, universal joints, rear axle and differential, and rear
wheel bearings of each new passenger cor manufaetur d

EXPLANATION OF WARRANTY AND SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. PRE-DElIVERY SERVICE: For your maximum satisfac -
tion, your new
cor has been inspected and prepared
for delivery by your authorized selling dealer in accordance
with the monufodurer 's recommendations.
2. WARRANTY SERVICE: Your authorized selling dealer
will perform any service which may become necessary under
the Manufacturers Passenger Cor Warranty, and you should
go to your selling dealer for such service if possible . If
you cannot return to your selling dealer, however , any
Chrysler Motors Corporation Authorized Dealer will honor
the Manufacturer 's Passenger Car Warranty.
3. TIRE WARRANTY: Your tires are warranted separately
by the t ire manufacturer . Th is provides , you protection
against defects in workmanship and material under their
lifetime
warranty , and against the hazards covered by
the ir road hazard warranty . You may use this booklet to
establish the delivery dote of your car to the tire manu·
faclurer's represenlative should you requ i re rood hazord
type warranty service. Ad justments under either warranty
will be based on .t read wear remaining , and list price at
lime of tire failure.
4. AIQPAR BATTERY SERVICE ADJUSTMENT POLICY:
If the ballery on your vehicle should fail within 12 months
or 12 , 000 miles, whichever occurs flnt after delivery, it will
be replaced at no cost. Thereafter , il will be replaced on
a pro - rola adlustmenl basis up 10 36 monlhs from date of
original vehicle purchase . The pro · rata adjustment provides
you wilh a credit toward. the purcha.e of a new Mo Par
Ballery , based on the number of months remaining in the
pro · rata period at Ihe lime the battery is found defeelive .
Thi. warranty does nol apply if the ballery has been
damaged, abused, neglected or transferred to another
vehicle.
5. REQUIRED MAINTENANCE SERVICES: The engine oil
and oil Alter must be changed and the carburetor air folter
cleaned and replaced as specifled in the warranty to assure
protection under the 5 year / 50 , 000 mile eng ine and drive
train warranty coverage. At least every six months, a
Chry.ler Motors Corporat ion Author ized Dealer must certify
on the form
supplied wilh Ihe vehicle Ihal (11 you have
furnished the dealer ev i dence thaI Ihe required mainlenance
services have been performed, and (21 Ihe mileage then
registered on the vehicle odometer . Any competenl service
garage may perform Ihi. service; but we highly retommend
you permit your Authorized Selling Dealer to perform these
mai ntenance services as part of the CertiAed Cor Core
systematic maintenance program.
6. OWNER'S RESPONS/B/lITY, Maintenance services such as
the following are not covered by the warranly and are
Ihe responsibility of the owner:

7 . NOTICE OF TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP: Within 30
days after acqu iring the cor, subsequent owners should
have a Chrysler Motors Corporation Authorized Dealer
submit a Notice of Transfer of Ownership to Chrysler Motors
Corporation certifying the mileage and service history of the
vehicle. If previou. Owners have had the Required Service.
performed and the Service Record and odometer mileages
properly certifled at 6 month intervals, any remaining cover·
age of the Manufacturer's Passenger Cor Warranty will
continue to apply.

FIRST Oil CHANGE : The engine oil need not be removed un t il the flrst scheduled oil change.
WHEN TO ADD OIL : It's not unusual for a new engine to use a certain amount of engine oil during the
break-in period . Check oil level during each stop for gasoline . Add oil only when level on dip stick is at or
below the "ADD OIL" mark.
SELECTION OF OIL: Use only oils "For Service MS " and of the proper SAE grade for the overage
temperature in your area . See Engine Oil Recommendations. poge 38 .

LET'S GET ACQUAINTED
oA WORD ABOUT YOUR KEY
You will find a small metal tag attached to
each set of keys. Stamped on this tag is an
identifying number wh i ch you should record
so that in the event of loss you can order
dup! i cate keys from your dealer or a repu -
table locksmith. After recording the numbers,
the tag should be destroyed . If you did not
receive a tag with your keys , ask your dealer
to give you the numbers .
LET' GET ACQUAINTED
Take your seat behind the wheel and with
the aid of this manual we suggest you famil -
iarize yourself with the many features bUilt
into your new car.
The first thing you may want to do is adjust
the front seat to your liking and move the
rear - view mirror for safe visibility.
e EAT ADJU TMENT (manual) .
The adjusting lever , located at the left of the
front seat cush i on, at your left hand near the
floor , releases the seat so you can slide it
forward or backward with your body weight
to the position that's most suitable . It will
lock in the new position when the lever is
released. See page I7 for adjustment of
power seal.
REAR-VIEW MIRROR
The ball - and - socket mounting of this mirror
prevents vibration , yet adjusts easily. Its
central location enables you to view traffic
conditions with a quick , safe glance.

INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DETAILS
Your instruments provide Inlormation about
whar s happening under the hood . That 's why It's
a good i dea lor you to check them frequently
as you dr i ve . Eye - ease paint is applied to the
i ns trument cluster area to elim i nate g lare .
1. SPEEDOMETER- Located directly 10
front of you for easy visibility. At night the
speedometer is softly lighted and glare -
less .
2. GASOLINE GAUGE -With ignition key in
ON posillon the pointer will indicate the
amount of fuel \0 gasoline tank .
3. ODOMETER- This group of numbers
tells you tolal mileage the car has been
driven in miles and tenths of miles.
4. TEMPERATURE GAUGE -Indicates en -
gi ne coolant temperature. Pointer will
normally slay near center while driving . If
the pointer rises suddenly or remains on
"H" while driving, stop car , turn oft engine
and do not operate car until cause is located
and corrected .
S. OIL PRESSURE LlGHT- A red glow
i nforms you immediately if engine oil
pressure drops below normal. This light is
posit i ve and unvarying, and catches your
attention at once. Red light should not be
on except momentarily when engine is
first started or is operating at idle . If light
stays on while driving , do not operate car
until cause of low oil pressure is located
and corrected . Light indicates lack of oil
pressure, not the amount of oil in the
crankcase.
6. ALTERNATOR INDICATOR- Indicates
whether battery is being charged ("e") or
discharged ("0"). Pointer will normally
stay centered while driving when battery
is fully charged and no lights or accessories
are in use .
7. TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS - Light
flashes in unison with outside lights when
turn signal is applied . On Monaco models
the turn signal indicators are located ,
instead on the front edge of each front
fender . 9

Unusual Starting Conditions
Flooded En Int-Excessive " pumping" of
the accelerator pedal may " flood" the engine ,
causing a temporary no · start condition. A
strong odor of gasoline is an indication of a
flooded engine. To start the engine under
flooded conditions , depress the accelerator
pedal fully to the floor and hold there while
cranking untIl engine starts . Holding the
accelerator fully to the floor opens the choke ,
allowing excess fuel to be eliminated from
the engine. Clearing the engine may take
about 10 seco ' nds , depending on the amount
of excess fuel in the engine .
Extremely Cold Weather-When starting
your car at temperatures of zero or below ,
depress the accelerator to the normal position
of one · third to one · half of Its full travel and
crank the engine . Hold the key in the start
position until the engine is running . If the
engine attempts to start but does not , and
the total engine cranking time required about
20 seconds, depress the accelerator all the
way to the floor until the engine starts run ·
ning. If it does not start then return accelerator
to the one · third to one · half position and
continue cranking. It may be necessary to
repeat this procedure. NOTE : See "Recom ·
mended Engine Oil Grades" and "If You
Have an Automatic Transmission" in the
" Service Tips" section of this manual for
recommendations regarding cold weather
starting. A larger capacity battery is available
from your Dealer for use in extremely cold
areas .
BREAK·IN RECOMMENDATIONS-A
long break - in period is not required for your
new car. Drive moderately during the first 300
miles. After the initial 50 miles, speeds up to
50 or 60 mph are desirable. While cruising,
brief full · throttle accelerations contribute to a
good break · in (Within limits of state and local
traffic laws) . Wide · open throttle accelerations
in low gear can be detrimental and should
be avoided for at least 500 miles.
The oil installed in the engine at the factory
is a high quality lubricant, classified "For
Service MS", and should be retained until
the first regular oil change. It is not unusual
for a new engine to use a certain amount of
oil during this period. Have the oil level
checked each time you stop for gasoline. If
oil is added, use only oils labeled on the con·
tainer "For Service MS" and of the weight
required for the outside temperature, as
described on page 38.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION'
The pointer on the indicator in the instrument
panel cluster indicates the gear range the
transmission is in. (With a Console t he
indicator is on the Console panel , located on
the floor at t he driver's right.) The Selector
Lever is mounted on the right side of the
steering column. Pull t he lever toward you
and move it to the desired gear range. Gear
ranges are as follows :
"P" Parking. Supplements parking brake by
locking the transmission. Engine' can be
started in this range . Never use "P" while
car is in motion. Always apply parking brake
while in this range .
"R" Reverse . Place your foot on the brake
pedal before selecting this range. An auto ·
matic safety control makes it impossible to
shift into Reverse at forward speeds above
10 miles per hour .
"N" Neutral. Use when car is standing at idle
for prolonged period with engine running.
12 Engine can be started in this range .
"0" Driv e. For most city and highway driving .
"2" Second . For driving slowly in heavy city
traffic or on mountain roads where more
precise speed control is desirable. Use it also
when climbing long grades , and for "engine
braking" when descending moderately steep
grades .
CAUTION:
To prevent IICess engine speed do not ex ·
ceed 60 miles per hour In this range .
"1" Firs t. For driving up very steep hills and
for "engine braking " at low speeds (25 miles
per hour or less) when going down. In snow,
sand or mud, car can often be moved by
alterna t ely moving from Drive and Reverse
with the accelerator slightly depressed to
achieve a" rocking motion .
CAUTION:
To prevent excess engine speed do not ex -
ceed 40 miles per hour In this range.
Towing . For short distances put transmission
in Neutral , but don 't exceed 35 mph . For long
distances (more than 100 miles) , or If the
transmiSSion is not operative, the car should
be towed with rear wheels off the ground or
with the propeller shaft disconnected .
As si st Starting Procedur e (Automatic and
Manual Transmission). Your battery must
contain an adequate charge to provide prompt
starting power to the engine. If it does not, it
may require "boosting" by transferring power
toit from a fully-charge battery. When this is
done the negative cable on the charging bat -
tery must be attached only to the negative (- )
post, and positive (+ ) to positive . Each post
IS stamped on top . This precaution will
prevent possible wiring damage to your car .
Assist starting can also be done by having
t he car pushed from behind . Make sure the
bumpers on both cars align properly . If you
have an automati c transmission put the
selector lever in " N" (neutral) and when you
have been pushed to about 15 mph , turn the
ignition key to "On", press the accelerator
pedal about half - way down and move the
selector lever to "I" (first) gear. When t he
engine starts shift to "0" (drive) gear.
With ama nual transmission , press the cl utch
pedal and hold it there ; then shift to S econd
or High gear. When a speed of about 10 mph
is reached , press the accelerator peda l, turn
the ignition key to "On" and slowly re lea se
the clutch pedal and engine should s tart .
Do not get an assist start by having the cal
towed as it could be damaged by being thru st
forward suddenly when the engine s tart s.

MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS ... .
Both manual transmissions are synchronized
for smooth and easy shifting. The 3·Speed
shi ft lever is mounted on the steering column
-the 4· Speed is floor - mounted at the driver's
right hand, or on the forward end of the
Console, if so equipped.
For smoother acceleration always shift from
low to second to high with a 3-Speed trans-
mission, and from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 if your
car is equipped with a 4-Speed transm issio n,
see illustration. Do not shift to Reverse when
car is moving.
Shifting Gears : When shifting gears: (1)
Depress clu t ch pedal to floor. (2) Move shift
lever to desired position. (3) Release clu t ch
pedal a nd press down on accelerator peda I
at the same time. Do not drive with your foot
on the clutch pedal as this will cause abnor-
mal clutch wear.
Down Shifting: Moving from high down to the
lower gears in descending numerical order is
recommended to preserve the brakes when
driving down steep hills and to save gaso lin e
when going up steep hills. Use second gear to
im pr ove tr action when pulling out of deep
mud , sand or snow.
Towing : Car should not be towed more than
25 miles in Neutral , at speeds not to exceed
30 mph . If the transmission is not operative,
or the car is to be towed more than 25 miles,
the propeller shaft should be disconnected or
the car towed with the rear end off the ground.

OPENING AND CLOSING CONTROLS

To Open Hood. Push up release lever
under leading edge of hood and push
up sa f ety ca t ch located to the right This
unlatches hood and it can be lifted easily. To
close hood, lower to engage safety catch , then
• press down firmly to lock.
~ Outs/de Door Locks. Use key with
U square end and insert with notches up .
To unlock , turn key toward front of car. To
lock, turn it t oward rear of car. The key can
be removed after turning it back to vertical.
Both front doors, if locked before closing,
will automatically unlock when shut This
feature prevents locking yourself out of the
car with the keys inside.
~ Inside Door Locks . Front : Be sure door
~ is securely closed . Push down on button
located on window moulding to lock door . To
unlock, pull button up or pull door handle
backward . Rear : With the rear doors either
open or closed, push down on the button
located on window moulding to lock door. To
unlock , pull button up . Rear door cannot be
unlocked by pulling door handle , a safety
feature to prevent accidental unlocking by
c hildren .
A LUIIPII' Compartment. Use key with
~ round end and insert with notches up .
To unlock , turn key to right and counter-
balanced lid will raise easily. The lid will
lock itself when closed, whether or not the
key is in the lock. Always check before
closing to be sure keys are not left inside
compartment
Power Doo r Lock s. All four doors can
be locked at one time from either inside
or outside the car, by pushing a button or
turning a key . From the inside all four doors
are locked automatically by pushing the
button on either front door window mOUlding.
Pulling up either button unlocks all doors.
From the outside all four doors can be locked
at one time by using the key in the normal
manner in either front door . The car is
unlocked in the normal manner with the key
unlocking only the door it is used on.
