with the SB380
ZVOX SB380 Dimensions
The SB380 includes two analog signal cables
and one optical digital signal cable. It is likely
one of these three cables can connect from
your TV or cable/satellite set top box to the
SB380’s digital or analog input.
In the rare instance your TV or cable/sat set top
box has only an optical minijack audio output,
an optical miniplug to standard optical plug
cable is needed (not supplied with the SB380).

This quick setup guide applies the optical digital audio connection (A) as the primary setup example. This is the most common audio output on
modern Televisions.
Follow instructions (A, B, C, or D) according to the available TV audio out jacks on your TV.
Quick Setup Guide
1. Position & Power The ZVOX SB380 Sound Bar
NOTE: For brevity, the ZVOX Sound Bar Speaker Model SB380 is often referred to as the “ZVOX speaker” or “SB380” in this User Manual.
Note: Only one of the three audio cables and power supply is needed for the setup.
You can place the ZVOX speaker anywhere in front of your TV. It can also be placed on any level surface near the TV – above, below or to the left or right. It doesn’t have to be centered in front of the TV. The ZVOX speaker
performs best if it faces the people watching the TV.
The connections to the SB380 input panel are not affected by your choice of placement.
As the SB380 is positioned on a level surface near the TV, connect the power cord to the power jack on the back of ZVOX speaker, then connect the AC plug into the near by AC power outlet.
Place the provided AAA batteries into the provided ZVOX remote control. Don’t turn the ZVOX speaker on just yet.

3. Disable TV’s Sound & Turn On The ZVOX Speaker.
Tune your TV to a program, then use the original TV remote to access the TVs Home Menu -> Options or Settings
-> Sound or Audio -> Speaker List or Sound Out -> Select the Audio System, External Speaker, or Optical
Audio Out option. (Menu list varies based on TVs year and make, see TVs owners manual)
Note: Not all TVs list this adjustment choice, if your TV does not simply turn the main TV volume to zero and
continue using the ZVOX remote to control the volume.
Using the ZVOX SB380 remote, tap the POWER button to turn On the ZVOX speaker. You may hear sound if
not tap the INPUT button on the SB380 remote until “InId” appears on the face of the SB380. This indicates the
optical digital input has been selected.
You should be able to hear the ZVOX speakers sound, use the volume buttons on the ZVOX remote to set the
volume to your preferred level.

2. The Digital Optical Signal Cable
Most TVs have an optical digital output jack sometimes labelled “SPDIF or TOSLINK” located on the side or back
panel of the TV. (Picture A)
NOTE: Be aware the optical cable and jack are not exactly square. Similar to a puzzle piece; Position the
optical cable end so it matches the orientation of the optical jack, then push the cable into the jack. You should
hear and/or feel a “click” when the cable is correctly inserted into the optical jack.
Connect one end of the supplied optical signal cable to the TVs optical jack (A), then connect the opposite end
of the optical signal cable to the optical jack on the ZVOX speaker labelled Standard Optical digital input 1D). (B)
NOTE: If the TV does not have an optical connection or its too difcult you can also connect the ZVOX speaker
using one of the alternative setup options. This speaker is equiped with two optical input ports See instructions
B, C or D.

Alternative Ways To Connect The ZVOX Soundbar SB380
If your TV doesn’t have an optical output, here are some other options:
Red & White RCA to 3.5 mm Mini Analog Stereo Cable
Many TVs have a headphone audio out minijack sometimes labeled “Audio Out” or “HP” not PC IN.
Insert the supplied 3.5mm miniplug end of the cable into the TV’s headphone audio out minijack. (A) Insert the
opposite red and white end of the cable into the ZVOX speaker red and white input jack labeled ANALOG INPUT.
(B)
Once the RCA to mini analog stereo cable is completely connected it will be important to maintain the TVs main
volume above 50% and continue using the ZVOX remote as the main volume control, if ignored it may cause a
weak enough audio signal and cause the “auto shut off” to go off.
If you have yet to hear sound tap the INPUT button on the ZVOX speaker remote until “In3A” appears on the
ZVOX display, this selects the analog minijack input.
Note: Maintain the main TVs volume above 50% and continue using the ZVOX remote for volume control, if
neglected it may cause a weak enough audio signal causing the auto shut off to react.

Red & White RCA Analog Audio Cable
Some TVs have red/white RCA jacks for analog audio output Be sure you have located the red and white jacks
on the TV that are specically marked as “AUDIO OUTPUT” NOT “Audio IN or COMP IN”. (A)
Insert one set of red and white plugs into the red and white jacks on the TV labeled “Audio Out”. (A) Insert the
opposite set into the ZVOX speakers red and white input jack labeled ANALOG INPUT. (B)
Once the RCA analog cable is completely connected, tune your TV to a program, then use the original TV
remote to access the Home Menu -> Options or Settings -> Sound or Audio -> TV Speakers -> OFF or Speaker
List, Sound Out -> Select Audio System, External Speaker, or the Optical audio out option. (Menu list varies
based on TVs year and make, see TVs owners manual) If this option is unavailable keep the main TV volume at
zero and continue using the ZVOX remote for volume.
Note: Rarely TVs list an analog audio setting that must be set from Variable to FIXED, if you see this do so. If
you have yet to hear sound, tap the input button on the ZVOX remote control until the ZVOX display reads in2a.
Continue using the ZVOX remote for the volume control. If you have yet to hear sound tap the INPUT button on
the ZVOX speaker remote until “In3A” appears on the ZVOX display, this selects the analog jack input.

Connect To Your Cable Or Satellite TV Set Top Box
If your TV’s audio output is inaccessible (on a wall-mounted TV, for instance) or unavailable,
you can connect to the audio output of your cable or satellite set top box to the ZVOX speaker.
Most set top boxes have an “audio output” in addition to the HDMI output intended for use with
the TV.
To connect between the cable box and the ZVOX speaker, identify the audio output available
on the back of the cable or satellite box, then follow the cooresponding instructions in previous
setup column A or C.
Note: Connecting the ZVOX speaker through this option outputs this source only. Remember to
use the audio out or digital audio out, NOT comp-in or av-in.
The optical audio output of a second audio source (like a 2nd TV/ Bluray/DVD player or many
portable audio players) can be connected to Optical Input 2 on the SB380 soundbar although not
necessary for a average TV setup. A source connected to this input can be heard by pressing the
INPUT button on the remote control until you see In2d on the SB380 soundbar’s display.
The SB380’s Second Digital Input Feature
A Coaxial Digital Audio Signal Source or No Audio Out:
This ZVOX Audio soundbar does not have a coaxial-format digital audio input. A coaxial
digital to optical digital audio converter OR a coaxial digital to stereo analog audio converter
should be used. If your TV or cable/satellite box do not have audio outputs available at all
a HDMI extractor should be used. Visit support.zvox.com or contact ZVOX Audio at info@
zvoxaudio.com to learn what suitable audio converters or HDMI extractors are available.

Soundbar Placement
You can place the soundbar on any at, stable surface near your TV.
There are three general placement options, illustrated above:
Face Front: You can place the soundbar on a at surface so it faces
forward. This placement is ideal for a shelf below, above or near the
television.
Face Up: You can place the soundbar facing up—often in front of the
television. The bottom of the soundbar should face the listening area.
Check to ensure the soundbar does not block the television infrared
remote sensor. There should be no shelf or at surface immediately
above the soundbar in this conguration.
Wall Mount: The soundbar has two sturdy keyhole-shaped hanger
mounts on the back panel. With the additional owner-supplied
hardware, these two attachment points allow “on wall” placement or
secure attachment to a at surface.
Wall MountFace UpFace Front
Precautions
• A safe, secure installation is the soundbar owner’s responsibility.
• Do not place any objects on top of a soundbar.
• Consider the nish of the surface that will support the soundbar. It is
the soundbar owner’s responsibility to insure that a surface nish that
contacts the soundbar is protected, should this be a concern of the
soundbar owner.
The contact area on the soundbar is made of inert synthetic materials
that typically do not react with furniture or wall nishes. But any wall
or surface nish can be altered by having a heavy object resting on
it for a long period of time. Place an appropriate barrier between any
surface and the soundbar if you are concerned about the nish of the
supporting surface.
• Use an unswitched AC outlet to provide power to a soundbar. With
the soundbar’s Auto Standby feature turned on, an soundbar will enter
its Standby state on or before 30 minutes of inactivity. A soundbar
uses less than 0.5 watt in Standby. Using a switched AC outlet to cut
off AC power to a soundbar system is not recommended. It delays
subsequent turn-on.
Soundbar Wall Mounting Information
The soundbar has two keyhole mounting sites on its back panel. You
can mount the soundbar onto two screwheads using these mounting
sites. A ZVOX Audio soundbar weighs between 15 and 20 pounds.
NOTE: It is the installer’s responsibility to ensure the screws are in-
stalled into the wall or other surface securely and that the screwheads
are the correct size for the hanger mounts on the rear of the soundbar.
ZVOX Audio recommends your mounting sites be able to support at
least twice the weight of the soundbar.
Most Universal Sound bar mounts will work for mounting the SB380
underneith a swivel mounted TV.
