WHAT IS THE DRÄGER INTERLOCK 7000?
The Interlock 7000 is a reliable and precise alcohol
measuring instrument with integrated vehicle
immobiliser. It prevents drunk-driving. The Interlock 7000
consists of two components: handset and control
unit. The handset measures the alcohol concentration
in the breath of the driver. The control unit releases
or blocks the power supply to the starter relay of the
vehicle, and also records all relevant data. If required
by the statutory Interlock programme, the device can
be additionally equipped with a camera and / or
a GPRS module.
HOW DOES THE DRÄGER INTERLOCK 7000 WORK?
Before you can start the engine, the device measures
the alcohol content in your breath. If the measurement
result is below the set limit value you can start the
engine. If the measured breath alcohol concentration
exceeds this limit value the device reliably prevents the
engine from being started. Retests are required while
driving and are carried out at random intervals. The
device gives you the necessary time to stop the vehicle,
so that you can carry out the test without being rushed.
The Interlock 7000 does not interfere with a running
engine. Your driving will not be disrupted by the device.
All data such as initial tests, retests, and possible
manipulation attempts are recorded in the control unit
and forwarded to the responsible entity.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW
The Interlock 7000 can tell the difference between
residual mouth alcohol and breath alcohol. Mouth
alcohol caused by food and beverages that contain
small amounts of alcohol can affect the test result.
You cannot start the vehicle for a pre-defined period
of time if a certain breath alcohol concentration is
detected. The measurement result is documented in
the control unit.

HOW TO START THE VEHICLE
1. Please wait 15 minutes after consuming alcoholic
food or beverages before taking the test.
Remember that even mouthwashes and cigarette
smoke can affect the test result.
2. Attach a clean mouthpiece.
3. Switch the ignition on.
4. The following text now appears in the display of
the handset:
“Ready for test. Please blow.”
5. Take a deep breath and complete the breath test.
6. The visual and acoustic signals of the
Interlock 7000 will guide you reliably through the
startup process. During the test you will hear the
device clicking three times. When you hear the
third click, briefly suck in some air. The coloured
LEDs and the display will indicate that the breath
test is complete.
The following text on the display indicates that you
passed the test: “Test OK”. A green LED confirms
the result. Now, the vehicle can be started.
If the Interlock 7000 detects breath alcohol, the
following text appears in the display: “Test not OK”.
A red LED confirms the result. In this case, the
vehicle cannot be started.

TIPS FOR USING THE DRÄGER INTERLOCK 7000
– Wait 15 minutes after consuming alcoholic food or
beverages. Even mouthwashes or cigarette smoke
can affect the test result.
– Store the mouthpiece and handset as clean and
dry as possible.
– Attach a mouthpiece to the handset before using
the device.
– Make sure ambient air does not contain alcohol
or solvent vapours.
– If you are asked to take a retest, stop the vehicle
safely, e.g., at the roadside. This gives you the
opportunity to take the breath test with the engine
running and without being hurried.
– If retests are refused and in case of manipulation
attempts, the service period of the Interlock 7000
is automatically reduced. This then requires an
additional visit to the service shop. Moreover,
these events are logged by the device and
forwarded to the responsible entity.

WHAT HAPPENS IN CASE OF A FAILED INITIAL TEST?
In case of a failed initial test the control unit blocks
the engine start. A time-out for the Interlock 7000 is
then activated. After a defined period of time you get
the opportunity to take a new initial test. A countdown
on the display shows the time remaining until the next
initial test.
WAS THE BREATH SAMPLE SUBMITTED CORRECTLY?
If an error occurs during the breath test, the device will
alert you with audible and visual signals. If you hear
a beep during the measurement, stop blowing and
look at the display. The following guidelines will help
you to find and eliminate the problem:
– “Blow longer”
– “Blow stronger”
– “Suck after blow”
Press the “OK” button to take a new test.

RETESTING WHILE DRIVING
Retests are required at random intervals. They are
announced by an acoustic signal and a message
on the display. The blue LED light is an additional
indicator. Once the device starts to beep and the
text “Retest Please blow.” appears on the display,
you should do the following:
1. Stop your vehicle safely and with running engine.
Do not worry – you have enough time to take the
breath test. The Interlock 7000 will remind you
several times of the retest.
2. Take the breath test while the engine is running.
3. Take a deep breath and blow into the mouthpiece
of the handset. This is the same process as with
the initial test.
4. You can continue driving as soon as the LED
lights up green and the text “Test OK” appears
on the display.
When failing the retest, the LED lights up red
and “Test not OK” appears on the display. This
is considered an irregularity and logged in the
memory of the control unit. The Interlock
programme determines what is considered an
irregularity and what will be the consequences.
IRREGULARITIES
Certain events are defined as irregularities in every
Interlock programme. This may include the refusal
to take the retest. A shorter service period is the
result of an irregularity. A request to visit the service
shop within the next few days appears in the display.
Failure to do so will result in a permanent block
being applied, and the vehicle cannot be started
anymore.

DRÄGER INTERLOCK 7000: MAINTENANCE AND
SERVICE
The Interlock programme defines at which intervals
the data must be downloaded in the service shop.
During these service shop visits the Interlock 7000

the vehicle if you miss your appointment.
Regular maintenance includes the following services:
