Zephyr Operating Instructions

Zephyr by Dry & Store®is for household use. When using electrical products, especially when children
are present, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including:

Zephyroperatesatatemperaturerangeof36°to40°C(97°to104°F).Itwillfunctionproperly
atindoorambienttemperaturesfrom18°to27°C(65°to80°F).

Introduction
Used daily, Zephyr removes damaging moisture accumulation, dries earwax and removes
odors.Zephyrcanmakehearinginstrumentssoundbetter,anditcanextendzinc-airbattery
lifeinhighhumiditylocations.
Preparation for Use (Important)
1. Activate the desiccant: A disposable Dry-Brik®, which must be
replaced every two months, is included. The Dry-Brik performs
two important functions: (1) to permanently remove the moisture
moleculesthatarereleasedfromthedevicesduringthedryingcycle,
and(2)todrivetherelativehumidityinsidetheboxtoamuchlower
levelthanispossiblewithjustaheater,thusmaximizingthedrying
capability.
ToactivatetheDry-Brik,removethefoilcover(Figure 1). Do not
remove the foil until you are ready to use the Dry-Brik, because
onceitisremovedtheDry-Brikwillbeginadsorbingmoisture.
2. Record the activation date: To alert you when it is time for
replacement,acardisattachedtoeachDry-Brik.Writethedatethat
theDry-Brikwasplacedinserviceonthiscard(Figure 2).
3. Place the activated Dry-Brik in Zephyr (Figure 3).
4. Connect the AC adapter:PlugtheACadapterintoanelectrical
outlet,thentthesmallcircularplugintotherearoftheunit.

Operating Your Zephyr
1. Wipeexcessmoistureandearwaxfromyourhearingaidsbeforeplacingtheminthedrying
tray.Youmayleavethebatteriesin,butopenthebatterycovertoallowforaircirculation.
2. Closethelidandpresstheo n /o f f button on the right side of the unit. The green indicator
abovetheo n /o f f buttonwillilluminateforthedurationoftheeight-hourcycle,afterwhich
theunitwillturnoffautomatically.Zephyrcanalsobeturnedoffbypressingtheo n /o f f

buttonasecondtime.BestresultscomefromanentireZephyrcycle,butdryingwilloccur
fromperiodsasshortasonehour.
Using Zephyr with Cochlear Implant Equipment
Behind-the-earprocessorsandotherimplanthardwaremustbekeptdrytofunctionproperly.
RegularZephyrusecanalsomakeasignicantdifferenceinzinc-airbatterylife,especiallyin
humidweather.(Individualresultsmayvary.)Leavezinc-airbatteriesintheprocessor(where
applicable)butremovethebatterycover.Placetheprocessor,headpieceandcableinthefront
compartmentandfollowtheinstructionsforuse,above.
General Product Care
DonotoperateZephyrinhigh-humiditylocationssuchasabathroom.Keepthelidclosedat
alltimes,becausetheeffectivenessoftheDry-Brikwillbereducedduetomoistureadsorption
fromthesurroundingair.Cleansurfaceswithasoftcloth.Neverusestrongcleaningagentsor
abrasives.Donotsprayanyliquidintothetray.
Troubleshooting Zephyr Problems
Unit will not start (no green light)• : Make sure that the o n /o f f buttonhasbeenrmlypushed.
Verifythat theACadapteris securelyconnected.Istheoutlet/mainscontrolledbyawall
switch?Ifstillnosuccess,tryanotherAC adapter (available from the placeofpurchase,
at www.dryandstore.com, or from a service center). Replace it only with anAC adapter
providedbythemanufacturer.
Green light is on, but unit is not drying properly• :HastheDry-Brikbeenreplacedregularly?
Itisimportantthatitbereplacedeverytwomonthsaccordingtotheinstructions.Checkfor
fanmovement.Ifnofansoundcanbeheard,contacttheplaceofpurchaseoraservicecenter
forevaluation.

Operating Features

tomoveoutofthehearinginstrumentsbydiffusion.Adesiccantintheairowpathstripsthemoisture
out of the air, ensuring continuous dry operation.
• Zephyrwilldrycerumen,makingiteasiertoremovefromthehearinginstrument.
• Zephyrturnsoffautomaticallyafter8hoursunlesstheo n /o f f button on the side is pressed.
• Batteriesdonothavetoberemovedfromhearingdevices.
• Zephyrisnotdesignedtodiagnose,prevent,monitor,treat,oralleviatedisease.
Rechargeable Canister Desiccant (optional)
A small number of international configurations are shipped with an optional metal canister desiccant
insteadofaDry-Brik.Theprotectivelabelshouldberemovedfrombothsidesbeforeuse.Asmoistureis
adsorbedbythedesiccant,theindicatorwillchangefromorange(good)togreen(bad).Thecolorchange
signalsthatthedesiccantcannolongeradsorbmoisture.Torestorefunction,placethemetalcanina
conventionalovenforaminimumof3hoursatatemperatureof105°-150°C(225°-300°F).Thecolorwill
change back to orange. Warning: Never place metal in a microwave oven! After recharging, allow
the hot metal can to cool before use. Best results will occur if the can is covered by a glass during the
cooling period.
