Quick Start Guide
Basic Installation Steps
Whether you’re an experienced installer and service technician or relatively new to the business, if
you’ve installed a 14 SEER single stage heat pump before, you can install the LYNX™ 18 inverter-driven
heat pump. Powered by our proprietary QuickLink™ technology, the 4HP18V is designed to make
applying the product and installing it easy. All the basic installation steps are the same and a couple
steps you should be aware of before you begin:
• You’ll need select the tonnage the unit will operate in on
the control board
• You’ll also need to select the operating mode – units
ship in Efciency mode in cooling and Efciency mode in
heating
• 3-ton units ship with a suction line lter drier installed while
5-ton models ship with a liquid line lter drier that is eld
installed.
REFRIGERANT CHARGING
There is a specic charging mode to ensure the unit runs at
full capacity. The charging mode is available in both heating
and cooling operation.
• Move the jumper to charge mode for cooling. Weigh-in
is the preferred method for charging in heating, to get the
unit to run at 100% capacity in heating mode, unplug the
wire to the liquid pressure transducer
• Refer to the charging data on the unit sticker for refrigerant
amounts
5 OPERATING MODES:
COOLING:
Efficiency Mode
• Adaptive suction pressure based on outdoor
temperature - warmer coil
• Large range of compressor modulation = highest
efciency
Normal Mode
• Set suction pressure - standard coil temperature
• Descreased modulation range,as compared to
efciency mode
Comfort Mode
• Reduced suction pressure - colder coil
• Maximum dehumidication = longger run times at
high compressor speed

WIRING
In cooling R, C, Y1 is needed at a minimum to run system. Add in O for heating operation, and W to operate electric
heating while in defrost.
Optional wiring: By also connecting Y2 you’ll get enhanced control over compressor ramp up / down rather than relying
solely on the suction pressure/temperature and outdoor ambient temperature inputs.
