Quick start instructions Dumor EASYBINDER 80
WHAT THE BINDER WILL DO
It will bind most kinds of open fibre paper either in a block or with a soft cover with self setting side gluing with some technical modification.
It can also be used to bind a block to a hard cover by using a hot chip and special glue.
The binder can bind most kinds of coated papers.
Binding Specifications
Paper block
Thickness of paper block min 5mm > max 50mm (1)
Length of spine min 100mm > max 420mm (2)
Height of book block
Min ca 12cm (the height of the clamp jaws) (3)
Max to about 30cm (practical height of the paper to stay upright)
Spine preparation
Milling to 1,5 mm (4)
Slitting to 1 mm
Cover stock (6)
From 100 gsm to 250 gsm if pre -creased.
Cover size to fit the book block size.
Note, the cover must not be printed on the inside spine area where the glue will be or it will
not stick to the glue.
Note, thick book = thicker cover stock.
Thin book = thinner cover stock.
The cover width should be the same as the book spine length or it will be difficult to posi-
tion accurately.
The cover length should have a few mm of overhang to allow for a front trim.
Spine Gluing
Variable setting spine glue cut off to avoid end of spine glue over-spill. (7)
Side Gluing
Height: to about 5mm from the spine if enabled. (8)
Spine Gluing
Adjustable spine glue length left and right ends.
Adjustable tank spine glue thickness via tank height and scraper position setting. (9)
Glue Tank Fill
Tank 1: Side gluing ca 1,5 kg fast closing glue.
Tank 2: Spine gluing ca 3 kg slower closing glue to allow the glue to fully penetrate the fibre.
The glue can be re- heated many times.
Note, that when the colour turns brown then the glue should be drained and refilled.
The fingers in the tank give an indication of the fill level do not over fill or the glue will go everywhere.
Warming Time

Operational temp
To 140°C with std chip
To 180°C with special chip
Cover press (10) see pictures at end of the manual
Variable time.
Variable side pressure via screen.
Variable back pressure via 2 knobs on the front of the machine to suit different cover stock thicknesses. (10a)
Latent Safety Hazards To Be Aware Of:
Finger pinch points
On the paper clamp (11), end of run of the clamp traverse (12), cover pressing station (10) when the machine is processing a book binding
operation.
Paper chip fan if the waste bag is removed and the machine is started. (13)
Milling head if you open the safety covers by hand. (14)
Scalding points
on the glue tank and nearby parts when the tank is fully warm. (15)
Fume hazards
The machine should be run in a large room with access to an fume exhaust port. (15)
The fumes are not toxic but can cause a headache in a confined space.
Machine installation
Level the machine using the 4 feet. (16)
Make sure the machine is connected to a earthed power line as it is single insulated.
Remove all the transport clips (Red ) if you try to start the machine with the clips in place you will destroy the motors, no warranty!!!
Make sure there is correct fume ventilation.
Install the guard over the tank area located in the cupboard of the machine for transport.
Install the front tray for the covers. (17)
Install the waste bag. (13)
Working principle
The machine is turned ON. (18)
The glue will gradually melt between 120°C and 140°C using the standard glue other glues may need a higher temperature.
Hint: the melt process can take some time and can be accelerated by covering the tank with a piece of card to reduce heat losses until the
glue rollers start to turn.
When the glue is melted the rollers will begin to turn to stir the glue to get the glue evenly warmed up.
When the glue is fully stirred (ca 5min) the machine can be used.
Place the paper block
The fresh paper is loaded into the paper clamp to the left register and squared up.
Attention to finger trapping:
The clamp is closed by pushing the button. (11b)
There is a finger present safety sensor on the front jaw of the clamp that will inhibit the clamp closing if fingers are present. (11a)
Place the cover
Place the cover on the cover press into the left side clips
(10b)
and against the paper tray front stops which have been pre-positioned for the over
length.
Place the magnetic buttons to hold the cover in place on the right side of the cover on the moving plates, not the centre plate. (10c)

Registration
The machine runs centred, there is a red arrow on the glue tank indicating the centre line for the cover. (10d)
First cycle
The machine is now ready to use in book mode.
Press the start button (19)
The paper clamp will move to the right, over the milling head, past the side gluing rollers (15a) (if in use), over the spine rollers (15b), and
will stop over the cover press. (10)
The cover press will rise and nip the cover onto the under-hanging part of the book block that had been milled and glued.
The pressing will be timed according to the preset value and will then release( usually set at 5 sec ).
The paper clamp will then open after the pre set holding time (usually 4 sec) and the book can be slid out on the right side and stacked
vertically until fully dry.
The clamp will return back to the left start position.
The process can be repeated again.
Block mode
The machine can be used to glue blocks either with or without milling.
In the user menu choose the block mode.
The cover pressing will be inhibited.
We suggest to not use the milling as it will splay open the paper.
Great care needs to be take when sliding the block out as the spine glue will still not be fully hard and will stick to the cover press if the
block is lowered.
User adjustments
Paper clamp opening amount
The degree of opening can be set by moving the stop pin (11c) (early models) and / or via the control panel setting for the opening.
Milling height can only be re set by a technician, the adjustment is minute.
Side gluing enabled (inwards) normal setting.
The side gluing is self setting according to the book block thickness.
Side gluing disabled (outwards) optional setting if you hold it open using 2 pins (15c), for example when gluing blocks with no cover.
Glue tank height
The glue tank can be raised or lowered by the screw under the tank, the adjustment is minute, is factory set and should not be altered.
Glue scraper height
The height of the glue scraper can be altered by a qualified technician only the adjustment is minute. (15d)
Spine glue cut off settings left and right
To avoid glue over-spill at the end of the spine.
There are 2 knobs on the paper clamp located in slots. (11d) (11e)
These move a “ski “that will act on the glue cut off flap to close it.
The glue cut off can be adjusted inwards and outwards, there is a mm scale on the slots. (11f)
Clamp side pressing force (10e)
Can be set via the control panel we recommend setting 7 to 8

Note clamping too hard will cause the spine of the book to deform
Note: Spine pressing is inhibited if the machine is set in book block mode.
Pressing height
Can be set and balanced via the 2 knobs (10a) on the front of the machine note the adjustments are minute.
Left anticlockwise is to descend for thicker covers.
Right clockwise is to raise for thinner covers.
Cover front stop position (11a)
The cover stop is locked with 2 knobs according to the centre of the cover vs the centre line of the machine (arrow).
Maintenance
Waste bag
Empty each day
Glue tank
Change glue each 250hrs of use or when the glue looks oxidised (turning brown) or if pollutants are in the glue eg paper waste.
There are 2 plugs in the tank that cover the drain holes. (21a) (21b)
A aluminium biscuit tray can be put under the drain holes to collect the waste glue.
Cover press
Make sure there are no glue residues in the cover press or you may overload the motor.
Use silicone spray to stop glue drops from adhering.
Traverse chain
Each 6 months check the tension it may not be slack grease each yea.r
Glue tank chain
Grease each 3 months and make sure there is no glue on it.
Guides
Spray with light oil each 3 months.
