Quick Start Guide
Introduction
The DVI-7311 is a Fiber Optic Extender designed to transmit single-link DVI signals over optical ber
cables at distances up to 500 meters (1,640 ft.). This extender provides exceptional signal delity and
supports a wide range of input resolutions. The unit consists of an optical transmitter module that
converts the DVI input signal into high-speed light pulses for transmission over four (4) detachable
multi-mode glass bers and an optical receiver module that converts the light pulses back to a DVI
signal for display on a monitor or projector. A programmable memory chip in the transmitter unit
captures and stores the EDID from the connected display and presents it to the DVI source device.
These features make the DVI-7311 the ideal solution for any application that demands awless image
quality from DVI signals that must be extended over very long cable distances.

Installation Instructions
This product consists of a DVI-7311-TX Transmitter Unit and a DVI-7311-RX Receiver Unit. The DVI signal
components are routed from the Transmitter Unit to the Receiver Unit using a 50/125μ multi-mode ber
cable with 4x LC connectors (see application drawing on page 1).
1. Learn the EDID from the destination device (see instructions on page 4).
2. Connect the Transmitter Unit to the DVI output port of the signal source (e.g. PC).
3. Connect the Receiver Unit to the DVI port of a destination device (e.g. digital display).
4. Each unit has four (4) Optical ports which are marked with the numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4. Connect
each strand of the LC terminated ber optic cable to the corresponding number on both the
Transmitter and Receiver Units.
5. Connect the External AC Power Adapter to the power input jack on the Receiver Unit.
6. Apply power to the display device, then apply power to the source device. A picture should appear
on the display within a few seconds.
Power Sources
The Receiver Unit must draw power from the supplied External AC Power Adapter. It does not draw
power from the monitor to which it is connected. The Transmitter Unit however can draw power from
the source device for operation. In the event that the source cannot provide adequate power for the
transmitter, an optional External AC Power Supply is available (part number DVI-7211-PS).

Instructions for Learning the EDID from a Display
1. Apply power to the display.
2. Connect the DVI-7311 Transmitter unit to the display’s DVI input port.
3. Connect the External AC Power Adapter to the Transmitter unit.
4. Press the EDID button on the top side of the Transmitter unit (page 2 - #5). The BLUE indicator
LED (page 2 - #2a) will illuminate briey when the button is depressed and then ash ON once
if the EDID is read successfully.
5. If there is a problem reading the display’s EDID, the BLUE Indicator LED will ash ON/OFF
rapidly six times. Should this happen, ensure that all connections are secure and attempt the
EDID Learn process again.
6. Remove the External AC Power Adapter from the Transmitter unit.
7. Disconnect the Transmitter unit from the display and connect it to the DVI signal source.
8. Follow the Installation Instructions (3-6) listed on page 3.
