owner.ThismanualwillguideyouthroughthefeaturesandoperationsoftheE90
system.

WedesignedtheE90systemtobehasslefree,flexibleandtough.Thismanualislaidoutfrom
thebeginningtotheendtogiveyouhelpfuladviceandinformation.Thefirstpartiscalled“Quick
StartEssentials”.ThesearethingsthatwethinkyouMUSTreadtogetthemostoutofyour
electricbikeasquicklyaspossible.We’velaiditoutinplainenglishsoyoucanlearnaboutyour
bikeinapracticalway,ratherreadingtechnojargon.Theprocessweuseis:

QuickStartEssentials
FirstthingsfirstGettoknowyourbattery
Thismightseemastrangeplacetostart,butyourbatteryisthesinglemost
expensivecomponentofyourconversionkit.Thebatterythatcomeswithyourkitusesvery
advancedlithiumionchemistry.Insidethespeciallydesignedcasingareelectroniccomponents
thatworktoprolongandoptimisethelifeofyourbattery.Lithiumionbatterieshaveenhanced
lifetimes,conservativelyestimatedtobeapproximately1000cycles.However,themustbe
maintainedwellbytheirowner.Atnopointshouldyouattempttoopenthesealedcase.Ifin
doubt,contactyourserviceagent.Didwesaynottoopenthecaseunderanycircumstances,
butreturnittoyourserviceagentifyouthinkit’snotworkingproperly.Awesome,letusmoveon

Howtogiveyourbatteryecolove.
1. Aimtonevertodepleteyourbatteryandaimtokeepitaschargedaspossibleatall
times.Loveyourbatteryanditwillgiveyouyearsofservice.
2. Fullychargeyourbatteryaftereveryride.Yourbatteryshouldbefullychargedwithin
afewhours.Aredlightonthechargerindicateditis‘oncharge’,agreenlightonthe
chargerindicatesitis‘fullycharged’.
3. Neverleavethechargerturnedononcethebatteryhasfullycharged.Removethe
batterychargingconnectorattherearanddisconnectthechargerfromthemainssupply
atthesocket.Alwaysmakesurethechargerhasadequateventilationandawayfromany
heatsensitivesurface.Allelectricalchargersgenerateheat,somakesureit’swellaway
fromanimals,children,water,mogwai,dragonsandotherthingsthatheateffects.
4. Alwaysturnoffthepowerswitch.Whenthebikeisnotinuseorbeingrecharged.Not
turningofftheswitchwillmeanasmallamountofcurrentwillberunningthroughthe
controllerandotherpartsofthesystem,andthiswilldrainthebattery.
5. Donotleavetheswitchon.Despitethebattery’sabilitytomanagepowerforyou,itwill
drainthebattery(see4).Whenturnedoffthebatterywillholdgoodcharge.
6. Youshouldchargethebatteryfullyeverytwomonthsevenifyouarenotusing
thebikeatall.LithiumIonbatteriesdonotlikebeingleftforlongerperiods.THIS
ISTHESINGLEMOSTIMPORTANTREASONFORLOSSOFBATTERY
PERFORMANCEANDLIFE.Yourbatterywarrantymaybeinvalidshouldyounot
followthisadvice.
7. Batteryrecharging:Standardchargerswillfullychargethebatteryinapproximately5
hoursfromdeadflat.Thebatterychargerwillindicateafullchargebyturningfrom‘red’to
‘green’.Inaddition,thebatterychargecanbetestedbypressingthe‘test’buttononthe

case.Fullgreenlightsmeansafullchargeandoneornolightsmeanslowornocharge.
Batterycorrectlyfittedtothecasing.Itshouldbeflushand‘clicks’intoplacewithasmallpush.When
fitted,LOCKitintoplaceandremovethekey.Pullonthebatteryusingthefindergripsontheundersideto
ensureitisfittedcorrectlybeforeriding.Tounlock,insertandturnthekey.Holdthekeyinthatposition
andgentlypullthebatteryout.Youcanchargethebatteryeitherwhenmountedasshown,orremoved.

Insidethebatteryareessentialelectroniccomponentswhichinteractwiththecontrollerand
managethebatteryitself.Yourbatteryisafactorysealedunitandmustnotbealtered,openedor
otherwisetamperedwith.
●Thebatteryslidesinandoutofthemountingcase,usingaclicklockandphysicalkey
locktoholditinplace.
●TheBMSishousedinsidethebattery(youcan’tseeit).Thebikecontrollerishousedat
therearofthemountingdock,locatedunderyoursaddleandyouwillseethewiringloom
runningintoit.Itisinsidethecaseyoucan’tseeit.
Thesetwopartsareessentialtothebikesystem.(seepreviousphoto).Theyhavebeentobe
waterresistant.However,takecarenottoimmerseeitherunitinwater.Generallyspeaking
peopleareusedtonotputtingbatteriesinwater,soitshouldn’tcomeasasurprisethatwhile
youreBikecangetcaughtintherain,youshouldavoidhosingforacleanitdownwithbatteryin
place(andespeciallyturnedon)oraimingthehoseinsidethebatterymounting.Tocleanthe
batteryandmountingcassettewerecommendtheusealintfreeclothandverysmallamountof
lukewarmwaterontheclothtowipedown.Donotuseanyformofchemicalcleaningagentor
waterdirectlyonthebatteryormounting.

TheBatteryManagementSystem(BMS)
Thissmallpieceofelectronicsismountedinsidethebatterycase.Atnotimeshouldyouattempt
toopenthebatterycase.ThejoboftheBMSistobalancethechargebetweenthecells(there
are12cellsina36vbattery)andpreventthebatteryfromexcessivedischarging.Unlikemany
electronicgadgets,theBMSisdesignedtolookafterthebattery,soasyourideitwon’tfeellike
thebikeisslowingorlosingpower.Whatwillhappenisthatbatterywillcutoffandyouwilllose
power.VeryrarelyaBMSandcontrollermaycutpowertoprotectthesystem.Thisismostlikely
becauseofthrottleabuse!.TheE90isdesignedtofeedpowertothesystemusingasortof
shortrampingupofpowerratherthanasharpoffandon.WhenyouturnthethrottleontheE90,
you’llnoticeforashortmomentthatthewheelrampsuppower.ThisistoassisttheBMSand
controllerinoptimisingperformance,andtofeedpowertothemotortopreventsuddenspikesin
powerorjerkingtheriderforward.

GeneralAdvice:Youmustbeovertheageof14torideanelectricbikeinmoststates.Bikes
mustnotberiddenatspeedsabove25km/hwiththemotorengagedonanypublicroador
cycleway.Youdonotneedtoregisterthebike(aswithamotorbikeorcar).Youdonotneeda
licencetorideandelectricbike.Youdoneedcommonsenseandanawarenessofotherroad
users.
YOURFIRSTRIDE
PressuparrowuntilONEassistbarappears.Thisisthelowestpowersetting.Readyyourselfto
ride,checkyoursurroundingsfortrafficorotherhazards.Pedalyourbike.Afterhalfaturn,the
motorwillcutinandstarttoassistyou.ItwillkeepassistingyouuntilyoueitherSTOPusingthe
pedalsorusethebreak.
Trythis,rideforabouttenseconds,thenstoppedalingandcoast.Youwillnoticethemotorcuts
out.Pedalagainandpowerreturns.Congratulations,youareridinganelectricbike!

TherearethreewaystoridetheE90
1. ridebypedalpoweralone,i.e.fullyhumanpowered.
2. ridebyelectricmotoralonebyoperatingthethrottlemanually.
3. rideusingbothtogetheratthesametime.
Unpoweredriding
YoucanridetheE90withoutactivatingtheelectricalsystem,orhavingthebatteryinstalled.Fully
humanpowered(normal)ridingwillnotdamagethemotororbike.Goforit.
Poweredriding
Step1Turnonthebattery
BATTERYON/OFFSWITCH
Installthebatterybyslidingitintothecassettecasing.Itonlyfitsoneway.Pushitintoplace
firmlyandwill‘click’intoplace.Usingthekeylock,turnthekey.Thislocksthebatteryintoplace.
Youmaynowremovethekeyforsecurity.Thereisarockerswitchattherearsideofthe
battery,pressitandaredlightwillilluminatetoshowthebatteryisoperational.Youcantestthe
battery’schargebypressingthetestbuttononthetopofthebattery.Fullgreenlightsindicatea
fullbattery

Step2Turnonthedisplay
TURNINGONTHEDISPLAY.
TheLCDDisplayislocatedonthehandlebar.ThiscontrolsallthefunctionalityoftheE90
system.Pressthebuttonbetweentheupanddownarrowkeys.Holditdownfor2secondsand
you’llseealltheLCDindicatorsturntoblackbriefly,followedbysomenumbers(whichare
preprogrammedtotellthebikewhatsizewheelyouhaveandpowersettingstousefor
Australia).Thisonlytakesacoupleofseconds.Thedisplaywillthenshowyouinformationabout
thesystemthespeed,distancetravelled,batteryoutput,batterychargeandmodeofriding.

Step3Setthemodeofoperation
Youcaneitherridein“auto”or“pedalassist”modes.Therearesixlevelsofassist,fromlow
(economytohighboost).
SettingtoAuto(Throttlemode)
SHOWSAUTOMODEONTHEDISPLAY
TheLCDhasasmalliconwhichshows“AUTO”.PresstheDOWNarrowonthedisplayuntilthe
six‘pedalassist’barsdisappearandAUTOisdisplayed.ThisputsthebikeinTHROTTLE
MODE.BECAREFUL.Themotorisactivatedusingthetwistgripthrottleonthehandlebar.The
moreitisturned,themorepowerissenttothemotor.
WARNING:Ifyouturnthethrottlewiththewheelontheground,thebikemaylurchforward.Ifyou
wishtotestthemotorisworking,LIFTTHEFRONTWHEELBEFORETURNINGTHE
THROTTLE.ALWAYSUSETHEBRAKETOSTOPTHEWHEELBEFOREPUTTINGONTHE
GROUND.LOOKAROUNDTOMAKESUREITSSAFETOTEST.
