Your kit will also contain your chosen option for securing the posts into or on the the ground, more information can be
found on page 4 of this guide. Your kit will also contain all the screws required for fitting your Parliament Pergola.
Consider the location carefully before proceeding.
Where will the sun be at the time of day you use it?
What access is required?
Determine the footprint required for the pergola
proposed. Ensure the area is clear and mark out
the positions for the posts.
Opposite and on the following page is a front and side views showing
our recommended measurements for setting out your walkway.
For the width we advise setting the posts to the cross section of the
trusses as shown in the diagram but this can be at your preference just
so long as the posts are set out equally and square.

The 125 pergola posts come with the notches pre made ready for the rafters, it is important that these are orientated as per the diagram
below so that the longest part of the post is facing the inside of the walkway and the cut area is on the outside of the walkway.
Once you are happy with the positioning please proceed to next page.

IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOUR POSTS ARE AT EXACTLY
THE SAME HEIGHT AND COMPLETELY STRAIGHT!
INSTALLING THE PERGOLA POSTS
Depending on your kit & post option you
will need to follow one of the following
options for each of the posts in your kit.
OPTION 1
Excavate holes for the pergola posts.
These need to be to a depth of
300mm (Kit option with 2.1M posts) or
600mm (Kit option with 2.7M Posts)
then fill with concrete we recommend
MetCrete to set quickly
Option 2
Bolt Down Anchors - Attach the Bolt Down
Anchor to your concrete area, drill an
8mm hole using an SDS drill bit,
ensuring the hole depth is 10mm longer
than the bolt length to allow for dust.
Remove any loose dust and fix the bolt
into place through the holes provided in
the anchor. Slot your pergola post into
the boltdown and tighten the 2 bolts at
the side of the anchor to secure. Making
sure its straight.
Option 3
Steel Spikes - Using the Mett Driving tool
and a sledge hammer or something
equivalent drive the steel spike into the
ground. Once post is in position tighten
the 2 bolts on the side of the spike to
secure post in place.

INSTALL THE SIDE RAFTERS
Once your pergola posts are secure in place, lift the side rafters onto the notches in the posts. Measure each end to make sure the rafters are
equal distances and in alignment with each other then secure the support rafters into place with 2 x 75mm screws for each post from the
inside of the walkway, so at this point you have 2 separate parallel structures.

Now place the galvanised pergola clips into position on the side rafters in preparation for the trusses, these should be installed so
that they are equal distances apart. Once happy with the positioning secure into place using 1 x 40mm screw as shown in the
diagram below

ASSEMBLY
Site and install the posts using the chosen method of fixing. Use a
spirit level during the installation to ensure that the posts are vertical.
All Grange architectural posts have a cutout at the top to enable the
location of Grange Rafters
Mark the centre position of the fixed rafters and fix a Metclip to each
rafter. Mark the positions, equally spaced, where the remaining rafters
will be situated and fix Metclips at each position.
Drop a rafter into the Metclips and adjust to ensure that the overhang
at each side is the same. Fix the rafter into position using screws or
galvanised nails through the pre-drilled holes in the Metclips.
Drop the rafters into the post cutouts as shown. Ensure that they are
horizontal and that there is an equal overhang at either end. Fix each
rafter into place with two screws driven through the posts at either end.

Now lift into position the roof trusses so that they slot into the pergola clips installed in the previous step, measure each end to ensure the
truss is perfectly centralised with the same amount of overhang at both ends and secure into place using 2 x 1 ½ x 8g - 40mm screws
through the pre drilled holes either side of the clip into the roof truss.

ASSEMBLY
Site and install the posts using the chosen method of fixing. Use a

Finally position the roof rafter down the middle of the roof trusses into the pre made notches, make sure its in alignment with the side rafters
then fix into place with 1 ½ x 8g screw from either side of the roof truss, once in position this will secure your parliament pergola and make it
a rigid structure.
