2.0Operationprinciples
RS-485 interface isusedtotwo-waysimultaneouscommunicationinonepairof
conductors.Forthisreason,thetransmissionhastobehalf-duplexthat means
switchingoff RS-485 transmitterwhenreceivingtoallowtransmittingtoother
communicationpartnersandswitchingonduringitsowntransmittingonly. There
aretwomethodshowtooperatethetransmitter:
1) ThetransmitteriscontrolledfromDTE bysignal RTSoritsinvertpolarity.
2) DTE doesnotuseRTS(thisinterface doesnotdisposethissignal orSWdoes
notuseit)andtheconverterhastointerpretitssignal TxD automatically. At
theTxDchangingmomentfromidlestate(fromthenegativetopositive
polarity),theconverteractivatesthelinktransmitterautomatically. The
transmitter isswitchedoff after thecertaintime of RTSswitchingoff or
TxDreturn totheneutral polarity.Timeinterval length hastobedependent
onappliedtransmissionratebecauseintheautomaticmodethereit is
necessarytokeepthetransmitteractivefortheperiodequal toonebyte
transmissiontime.
Intheautomaticmode, everydevice that istotransmit hastowait at leastforthe
time fromthelastbyterecordedonRS-485 bus.Ifit istothecontrarythefirst
transmittedbytewouldbedamaged.
