How toconnectanexternal monitor:
1.Turn offyourcomputerand makesurethe monitorpowerswitch is
turned off. Youmaydamageyoulaptopormonitorbyconnectingthesedevices
whilethe laptop isturned on.
2.Connectthe monitorcabletothe DVI portatthe leftofyourUMPC (ifyour
monitortakesVGAthen useaDVItoVGAadapter).
3.Connectthemonitorpowercableand plugitintoaproperly earthedwall
outlet.
4.Turn on the monitor.
5.Turn on yourwebsurfer.Both the LCDpaneland themonitorscreen will
showthe display.Yourcomputerissetasdefaulttorun in simultaneous
displaymode.
6.Ifyou only wanttoshow the displayonthe external monitorand shutoff
the LCDdisplay,youcanusethe <Fn> +<F3> hot-keytoswitch the displaytype
between LCDand external monitor.Keep pressingthehotkeyuntilyougetthe
displaytoexternal monitoronly.
LEDIndicators
Battery Charging LED
Lightstoindicatebatteryin chargingstatus.
Lightsorangetoindicatethatthebatteryisinchargingmode.
When thelightisoff,itindicatesthebatteryisfully charged orthe
batterypackisnotconnected.
HardDriveAccess
Lightstoindicatethatthe system isaccessingthe HardDisk.
Wi-FiConnection
When theLED islitthisindicatesthatthewireless LAN/Bluetooth moduleis
activated.When theLED lightisoff,itindicatesthatthe functionisdisabled.
CapsLock
When LED islittheCapsLockkeyon thekeyboard isactivated. When activated,
all alphabetkeystyped will bein UPPERCASE.

Power,Chargingand Battery Care
Thislaptophasarechargeablebatterywhich will giveyouusageonthe move
when recharged.Youcanalso usethepoweradapterpluggedintomains
electricityforcontinuoususe(the laptopwill rechargeitsbatterywhilein
operation).
Itisrecommendedthatthefirsttimeyouchargeyourbatteryyoushould
chargeitforatleast 8hours togetthe bestbatterylife.
Connecting yourBattery Pack
Caution: You mustshutyoursystem downbeforechangingthebatterypack.
1.Turn the computeroverso thatthe batteryslotfacesup.
2.Placethe batterypackinthebatteryslot, and aligntheprotrusionsonthe
batterypackwith thetwo slitson theside of thebatteryslot.
3.Gently pushthebatterypackintothe slotuntil youhearaclick.Lockthe
batterypackinplacebypushingthe leftbatterylatch totheleft.When you
hearaclick, the batterypackislocked in.
4.Connectthe ACadapterandopenthe LCDpanel.Startchargingthe battery.
When thebatteryischargingtheBatteryStatusIndicatorwillgoorange, when
fully charged itwill turn off.
Toremovethe battery pack
Unlockthe rightbatterylatch tothe leftuntil itclicks,andpushthe right
batterylatch totherightandhold; then slide thebatterypackoutof the slot.
Caring foryourBattery Pack
Frequent rechargingof the batterypackcan reducebatterylife. Toget the
mostof yourbatteryitisrecommended thatyou periodically fully discharge
(drain thebattery’spowertothe minimum) andthen fully chargethe battery
pack.
Note: Yourbatterygradually losesasmall amountof poweroveralongperiod
of time.Thisischaracteristic of all Lithium Ion batteries.
To usethebattery pack safely and effectively,
1.Donotshort-circuitthe batterypack.
2.Keep the batterypackaway from heatorfire.
3.Storethe batterypackatroom temperature.
4.Donotdisassemblethe batterypackunderanycircumstances.
5.Donotexposethe batterypacktowaterormoisture.
6.The batterypackshould notberemoved bychildren.
7.Ifthe temperatureof the batterypackdropsbelow 10 °C itwill only trickle
charge, which may take anywhereup to32 hours tobefully charged.Thisis
notrecommended.

GreenPowerManagement
Closingthe websurfer(loweringthe cover) allows you toputthesystem to
‘sleep’.You can quickly bootup bypressingthe PowerButton and thesystem
will startup exactly how itwaswhen you closed thelid.
Oneof the greatfeaturesof websurferisthe abilitytoconservepower.The
websurferhasan integrated SMM (System Management Mode) on thechipset
thatshutsdown componentsnotinusetoreducepowerconsumption.Toset
up powermanagementoptions,gotoControlPanel>PowerOptions.
Thisfeaturenotonly givesyou longerbatterylifebutalso coolsthe system and
componentsaswell,which ultimately prolongsthe lifeof yourwebsurfer.
Standby Mode
StandbyMode ismainly for powersaving.Yourdisplayand hard driveareshut
down and all open applicationsand documentsarestored in RAM(Random
Access Memory).Thisallows yourwebsurfertowake up quickly,butalow
levelof powerisrequired tomaintain thissuspendedstate.
Whilethe websurferisin Standbymode,the LED powerindicatorflashes.To
resume yourworkagain,press the powerbutton toreturntothe previous
screen you wereworkingon.
HibernationMode
In Hibernation mode,all system devicesarepowered down andthe contents
of RAMarestored on yourhard drive.Hibernate mode usesless powerthan
Standbymode,buttakesabitlongertimetoresume.When yourwebsurfer
goesintohibernation,Windows savesyourentiredesktop state before
powering down.You don’t needtosaveand closeeachdocument before
Hibernatingbutitisstrongly advised thatyou do.When you press power
button again,the system will bringyourwebsurferoutof hibernation.You'll
find yourapplicationsand documentsopen on yourdesktop exactlyasyou left
them.
Shutdown
All powerhasbeen turned off from the UMPC.Alwaysshutdown usingthe
Start>Shutdown procedure.
Connecting yourPowerAdapter
Useonly the AC adapterthatissuppliedwith yourlaptop,orsupplied byan
officialElonexreseller.Usinganyotheradaptermay causedamagetoyour
laptop.
Connectthe powercordtothe adapter,and thenplugtheotherendintoan
ACpowersocket (230V).Itisrecommendedthatthe firsttimeyouuseyour
laptop you should chargeitforatleast 8hours togetthe bestbatterylife.
Warning
Donotoverload an electrical outlet with connectionstomultipledevices.
Overloadingan electrical outlet may resultin fireorelectric shock.
Donottouch thepowercord orplugwith wethands.Doingso may resultin
electric shock.Connectthepowercord tothe adapter,and then plugthe
powercord intoan AC outlet.

Turning the poweron and off
Turning ON
Toturn yourlaptopon simply press thepower
buttononthe topof thecomputer.The
systemwill then bootintotheWindows XP
operatingsystem.
The firsttimeyoudothisyouwill be askedto
enteryourpersonal profileintothe StartUp
Wizard tohelp make yourlaptop yourown.
Sleep/Hibernate
When thecomputerison,closingthe lid will causethe system totemporarily
shutdown and enter‘sleep/hibernate’ mode. You can useControlPanel>
PowerOptions toconfigurethisfeature.You can also configurethe power
optionstoget the mostoutofthe batterydependingon whetheryou want
higherperformance orlongerbatterylife.
Turning OFF
Toturn yourlaptop off saveanyfiles,quit
all runningapplications; click [Start] and
choose [ShutDown] from the startup
menu.
Non ResponsivePrograms
Ifaprogram doesnotrespond,press the Ctrl+Alt+Delete combination to
startWindowsTaskManagerthen quitthenon-responsiveprogram orrestart
the system.Besuretoregularly saveyourwork.
Forced OFF
Ifthe system hangs/crashesforan unknown reason,and the Ctrl+Alt+Del
keycombination doesn’t work, press the power button for over 4 seconds to
forcethe system toturn itselfoff.Anyunsaved datawill belost.
Caution:
Ifthe HDD indicatorison,donotturnoff the computer,asdoingso may
damagethe databeingread from orwritten tothedrive.
Warning
IfWindows doesnotshutdown correctly,press and hold thepowerswitch for
morethan 5 seconds;the system will shutdown.Turningoff thecomputerthis
way may damagethesystem.Itisrecommended thatyou alwaysturn off the
computerbychoosingShutdown in the Startmenu.
IfWindows orprogram fileisdamaged byshuttingdown the system
incorrectly,reinstall the program.Elonexacceptsnoresponsibilityfor loss of
data.
