2.1ConnectionMechanism:
Thissectiondescribesthehardwareconnection mechanismofyourEtec4Port11g Wireless
ADSL2/2+ Router.
Beforeyoucanestablishan Internet orWirelessconnectionthrough yourEtec4Port 11g Wireless
ADSL2/2+ Router, makesureyou havethefollowing:
1.AComputer/Notebookwithan installedEthernetAdaptorandan Ethernet Cable,OR
2.AComputer/NotebookwithaWireless-borWireless-gWirelessadaptorinstalled (ForWireless
Access).
3.AnADSLserviceaccountandconfigurationinformation providedbyyourInternetService
Provider(ISP).You shouldneedonlya Usernameand Password,butyou can check with
yourISPtoseeifyou requireanyoftheotherfollowingconfigurationparameterstoconnect
yourEtec4Port 11gWireless ADSL2/2+ Routertothe Internet:
a.ISPUsernameand Password
b.VPI/VCIparameters
c.Multiplexing Method
d.HostandDomainNames
e.ISPDomainNameServer(DNS)Address
f.Fixed orStaticIPAddress.

2.2ConnectionSteps:
The followingarethestepstoproperlyconnectyourEtec4Port11g Wireless ADSL2/2+Router:
1.Turnoff yourcomputer.
2.If youdonothaveanADSLfaceplateinstalledbyyourserviceprovider,youmustensureADSL
splitters(alsocalledmicrofiltersorfilters)arefittedto all telephonesocketsinuse.
3.ConnectthesuppliedADSLRJ-11cablefromthesplitter/filterof yourchosentelephonesocket
(orADSLfaceplateifyouhaveone)tothe ADSL PortofyourEtec4Port11gWireless
ADSL2/2+ Router.
4.Connectthe Ethernetcable(RJ-45)fromoneofthe EthernetportsofyourEtec4Port11g
WirelessADSL2/2+ RoutertotheNetworkAdaptorinyourcomputer.
5.ConnectthePoweradaptortotheEtec4Port11g WirelessADSL2/2+Routerand plugthe other
endintoaPoweroutlet. Powerup theunit.
6.Turnonyourcomputer.
7.Refertothenextchaptertosetuporconfigureyoursystem’sNetworkAdaptor.
8.RefertoChapter4toconfigureyourEtec4Port11gWirelessADSL2/2+ Router.

ThePowerlightwillcomeon afterturning on theEtec4Port11gWireless
ADSL2/2+ Router.
Autoand self-diagnosticprocess willturntheLEDindicatorsONand OFF
during powerup.
UsethePowerAdaptorexclusivelyincombination withtheequipment
suppliedanddo notuseanyotherkind ofpoweradaptorfortheequipment.

Address: “192.168.1.1” inthe address fieldthen press the “Enter” key.

drop-downlist, select BT* andclick Next. Notethe “Encapsulation” type asPPPoA
VC-Muxand “VPI&VCI” settingsas0/38.
2. Click “Next” tocontinue.

The “DSLStatus” and “DSLSpeed” under “SystemInformation” showsyouthe

7.LaunchyourInternetwebbrowser,and entertheGoogleWebsiteAddress:
“www.google.com” inthe address fieldthenpress “Enter”.

Wireless ADSL2/2+Router.(Wirelesssettingsarenormallyconfiguredautomaticallybyyour
wireless client,usuallyUSB,PCIorPCCard.Theset-upofthe wirelessconnectionwill vary
dependingonthemanufacturerofyourwireless client. Pleasecontact yourwireless client vendorif
youareexperiencingdifficulties.Foradvanced wireless configurationfortherouter,pleaseconsult
themanualonthe CD provided.)

1. Authentication Failed
IfyouseeunderConnectionStatusthatthestatusdisplayed is‘NotConnected’,thenitwill also
displaya‘Disconnect Reason’.
Ifthe disconnectreasonis‘AuthenticationFailed’,thisisusuallycausedbytheuser
enteringthewrongusernameorpassword.
Wesuggest youfactoryresetthedevicebeforeyouattempt tore-entertheusername
andpassword.
Tofactoryresetpleasenotethereisaresetbuttonsituatedinbetweenthepowerand
Ethernetportson theback ofthedevice.
Whilethedeviceispoweredonpress thebuttonand holditfor15
seconds, andthenreleasethebutton.
When theresetbutton isreleasedthedevicewill restart itselfwiththe originalfactory
settings. Wait 30seconds.
LogintotheRoutervia http://192.168.1.1 (default)
Thenfollowthe set-up wizard.

2. DSLLineisDisconnected
NOTE: Formoredetailedinformation regardingsettingsandconnections,refertothe “User
Manual” on the CD provided.
Ifthe disconnectreasonis‘DSLLineisDisconnected’it maybe dueto:
1.The ADSLcableisdisconnected.
2.AnADSLlineproblem.
3.Microfiltersnotfittedin all telephonesockets, orafaultymicrofilter.
Pleasecheckthatall connectionsand filtersaresecureand tryagain.

3.Troubleshooting theConnection
1.Check that theADSLlightonthefrontoftherouterhasturnedsolid.Thiscantakeupto1
minuteafterswitchingon.(IftheADSLlight continuestoflashthentherouterisnotdetecting
an ADSLsignaland youshouldcontact yourServiceProviderimmediately)
2.Ensureyourusernameand passwordarecorrect –yourusernameshouldread
[e-mail] (orsomethingsimilar).
3.Ensureyou haveafilterattachedtothemastersocket.
4.Check therearenophonesconnectedtoanyextensionsthatdonothaveafilter.
Ifyoustill can’tgetaconnectionafterchecking the above–disconnectall phones, skyboxes,fax
machinesetc., double–check thatall cablesarecorrectlyconnectedandfiltersproperlyattached,
restart therouter, andtryagain.
Ifthisstill failsthenwesuggest youcontactyourServiceProviderforfurtheradvice.
