Cooking Guidelines
Take care when frying as t he oil and fat heat up very quickly,
part icularly if you’re using PowerBoost. At ext rem ely high
term peratures oil and fat will ignit e spontaneously and this present s a
serious fire risk.
Cooking Tips
• When food com es t o t he boil, reduce t he t em perature set ting.
• Using a lid will reduce cooking t im es and save energy by ret aining the heat .
• Minim ise the am ount of liquid or fat to reduce cooking t im es.
• Start cooking on a high set ting and reduce t he set t ing when t he food has
heat ed through.
Sim m ering, cooking r ice
• Sim m ering occurs below boiling point , at around 85˚C, w hen bubbles ar e j ust
rising occasionally t o t he surface of t he cooking liquid. I t is the key t o delicious
soups and t ender stews because the flavours develop without overcooking t he
food. You should also cook egg- based and flourt hick ened sauces below boiling
point .
• Som e tasks, including cooking rice by t he absorpt ion m et hod, m ay require a
sett ing higher t han the lowest set ting t o ensure t he food is cooked properly in
the t im e recom m ended.
Searing st ea k
To cook juicy flavoursom e steaks:
1. St and t he m eat at room t em perature for about 20 m inut es before cooking.
2. Heat up a heavy- based frying pan.
3. Brush bot h sides of the st eak wit h oil. Drizzle a sm all am ount of oil int o the
hot pan and t hen lower t he m eat ont o the hot pan.
4. Turn t he steak only once during cooking. The exact cooking t im e will depend
on t he t hickness of t he st eak and how cooked you want it . Tim es m ay vary
from about 2 – 8 m inut es per side. Press t he steak t o gauge how cooked it
is – the firm er it feels t he m ore ‘well done’ it will be.
5. Leave the steak to rest on a warm plate for a few m inutes t o allow it to relax
and becom e t ender before serving.

12
For stir - frying
1. Choose an ceram ic com pat ible flat- based wok or a large frying pan.
2. Have all t he ingredients and equipm ent ready. Stir- frying should be quick. I f
cooking large quantit ies, cook the food in several sm aller bat ches.
3. Pr eheat t he pan briefly and add t wo t ablespoons of oil.
4. Cook any m eat first, put it aside and keep warm .
5. St ir- fry the vegetables. When they are hot but still crisp, turn the cooking
zone to a lower sett ing, ret urn the m eat to t he pan and add your sauce.
6. St ir t he ingredient s gent ly to m ake sure they are heated t hrough.
