Product Overview
EBC890 is EverAccess® Flex series fingerprin con roller, an advanced produc ha
incorpora es s a e-of- he-ar fingerprin recogni ion echnology. I can direc ly work wi h up o
127 Flex series con rollers (Par # EFC-02-1A) over one RS-485 bus or more Flex con rollers
on he pla form of Flex sof ware (Version 1.3.1.14 or la er).
EBC890 provides he biome ric check – fingerprin verifica ion. I is less vulnerable o
unau horized ampering and provides higher securi y in con ras o regular card based access
con rol produc s.
EBC890 fingerprin con roller also con ains a buil -in proximi y card reader. The in egra ion of
he single door con roller and he reader can simplify he ins alla ion and save he cos .
Plus he 4x4 keypad on he fron panel, EBC890 supplies hree me hods of pro ec ion:
biome rics, card access and PIN. Besides he high securi y level, i delivers flexible, various
access verifica ion me hods – allow up o 12 au hen ica ion modes: fingerprin alone,
fingerprin + card, fingerprin + PIN, fingerprin + card + PIN, e c.
The EBC890 fingerprin con roller fea ures a fashion design wi h an elegan arched panel. The
back-li LCD screen suppor s 2x20 charac er display. Users can easily se up he con roller from
he keypad for a minimum effor ins alla ion. The keypad area is also back-li o guaran ee a
clear visual view bo h day and nigh . The uniquely designed an i-break housing provides
maximum pro ec ion agains physical damage and vandalism.

Figure 1.1 shows he layou of he EBC890 Fingerprin Access Con roller along wi h i s main

The fron size of he fingerprin con rol is separa ed in o 3 areas: fingerprin module, LCD
and keypad. Terminals, erminal defini ion label and frame moun ing holes are loca ed a
he back panel of he fingerprin con roller.
(1) Fingerprin module
The au o-on func ion will de ec when a finger is approaching he op ical sensor.
(2) LCD screen
The LCD screen displays he curren s a us of he con roller and he menu. The size is 2 x 20

Installation Overview
This chap er in roduces he basic concep on how o ins all an access con rol sys em. The
experienced ins aller can jump o sec ion “De ermine Fingerprin Reques ” o ge he
ins alla ion overview rela ed o Flex fingerprin con roller and o her flex con rollers.
The overall ins alla ion s eps are shown in he following block diagram Fig. 1. The de ailed
descrip ions are given in he subsec ion below.
Preparing for the Installation
Before beginning he ins alla ion, i is recommended ha he user ga her cer ain
informa ion o be er prepare. Proper prepara ion will help ensure a smoo h ins alla ion,
and will save he ins aller ime and reduce unnecessary effor s. The following informa ion
is essen ial for a professional ins alla ion:
Obtain a Floor Plan
Ob ain a floor plan of he building in which he access con rol sys em is o be ins alled.
Ob aining a floor plan helps he ins aller de ermine wha componen s need o be ins alled,
and where. I also is essen ial in de ermining he leng h of cable needed o connec
readers o he con roller. A floor plan can be a blue prin of he building, a design, or
simply a drawing of he facili y. Any documen showing he foo prin of he building can
be used. The dimensions are impor an o no e, especially when de ermining cable leng hs.
A floor plan may be ob ained from your local ci y hall.
Determining Hardware and Location
De ermining which hardware o use and where i will be ins alled. This is he mos crucial s ep
in he prepara ion s age. Firs , de ermine how many access poin s, or doors, need o be
managed by he access con rol sys em. These access poin s will con rol he securi y of he
facili y, and can limi he en ry and exi o and from any given area of he building. Af er
deciding which doors need o be con rolled, he user mus also de ermine he level of securi y
needed a each door. There are many ways o manage each door, using differen resources.
These resources include, bu are no limi ed o: proximi y readers, mag s ripe readers, relays,
and reques o exi s. A few common door configura ions are described below:

1. One reader, basic access con rol
The mos basic configura ion involves one card reader and an elec ric s rike. In
his configura ion, a person presen s a card o he reader, and is ei her gran ed or
denied access. The elec ric s rike unlocks if he sys em gran s access. Ano her
varia ion of his scenario involves se ing he sys em up o moni or whe her he
door is open, which allows he sys em o pro ec agains propped open doors, or
doors being held open for oo long.

Adding a reques o exi device o scenario 1 allows he sys em o con rol when o
allow people o exi hrough a door. Reques o exi devices include bu ons ha a
person mus press in order o exi , or a mo ion de ec or ha au oma ically unlocks
he door when a person approaches. These devices are always ins alled on he
secure side of he door.

3. Two readers, en ry and exi access con rol
If addi ional securi y is needed a a par icular door, or if he adminis ra or needs a
record of he ime and da e ha people en er AND exi a door. Adding a second
reader on he secure side of he door will require people o presen a card o exi as
well as en er. This scenario provides he added securi y benefi of allowing he
sys em o con rol who can en er, and who can exi . I also allows he
adminis ra or o con rol when people can en er and exi .
Scenario 1 and 2 require one reader. Scenario 3 requires wo. Each door module on he
EverAccess con roller can con rol wo readers. Therefore, scenarios 1 and 2 allow one
door module o con rol wo doors. Scenario 3 requires one door module for each door.
This is impor an o consider when choosing he appropria e number of modules and
readers.
Determine Fingerprint Access Requests
The biome ric recogni ion echnology used in he fingerprin con roller provides a higher
securi y level han regular card access sys em. De ermine he number of he access poin s where
he fingerprin access is required. The fingerprin con roller has a buil -in reader, so i can be
used as an en ry reader. A common door configura ion wi h he fingerprin con roller is shown
in he below figure:

As he Fig. 5 shows, he fingerprin con roller will firs work as a con roller ha receives inpu s
of door lock, door sensor, reques - o-exi . Also he buil -in reader in he fingerprin con roller
will sense he presen ed cards. No addi ional en ry reader is needed. An exi reader can be
ins alled depending on he ac ual requiremen and connec ed o he fingerprin con roller. The
fingerprin con roller can be fur her o be ne worked wi h more flex con roller or connec o
compu er.
Determining System Structure and Components
De ermine how many flex con rollers and fingerprin con roller are needed, and whe her
an E herne in erface is required.
1. Each EverAccess con roller can accommoda e up o 8 card readers. If he sys em
o be ins alled requires more han 8 readers, addi ional con rollers are necessary.
These con rollers can be connec ed o he sys em as described in chap er 4.
2. The fingerprin con roller can suppor 2 readers (one buil -in, one addi ional) on
one door. Also i can ne work wi h o her Flex con rollers.
3. If one or more con roller is o be ins alled a a differen loca ion han he sys em
compu er is o be ins alled, an E herne in erface is required o connec over he
in erne . An E herne in erface may also be used in loca ions a which he
con rollers are ins alled a long dis ance away from he sys em PC. Please refer o
chap er 4 for more de ails on ins alling he E herne in erface.

Hardware Installation
In his chap er, af er preparing for he ins alla ion, he user is ready o begin he ins all. This
sec ion will describe, in general erms, how o ins all he hardware including wiring. Here are
he following processes:
•Moun he suppor frame and con roller
•Connec he elec ric s rikes or magne ic locks
•Connec he door sensor
•Connec he reques - o-exi bu on
•Ins all and connec he card reader (op ional)
Mounting Fingerprint Controller
The fingerprin con roller has a buil -in reader working as an en ry reader, so i should be
ins alled close o he door where i guides. As a common rule, he fingerprin con roller
should no be ins alled on a me al, which will lower he card sense range.
The fingerprin con roller package con ains a suppor ing frame o eleva e he con roller in
order o make wire connec ions more convenien . The ins alla ion is described in he s eps
below:
S ep 1: Moun he suppor ing frame on o he wall.
Use he four anchor screws (provided in he package) o moun he frame o he wall.

S ep 2: Make cable hole
In he erminal area, marked as 1 in s ep 1 of he figure, make a hole on he wall, big
enough o allow all he wires go hrough. No e he wiring diagram will be addressed in he
following sec ions. Wire all he required cables before s ep 3.
S ep 3: Moun he fingerprin con roller o he suppor ing frame
Align he fingerprin con roller o he 4 la ches (marked as 2 o 5 in s ep 1 figure) on he
frame, and a ach he con roller o he frame (marked as 1 in s ep 2 figure). Make sure he

la ches are in posi ion. Then push down he con roller a li le bi o lock he posi ion
(marked as 2 in s ep 2 figure).
S ep 4: Lock he screw a bo om
Secure he con roller o he base board by iding he screws a bo om of con roller
(exclusive screw driver is provided in he con roller package).
Note: the screw has to be fastening to push down (secure) the tamper switch.

Connection to Door Lock
Elec ric s rikes and magne ic locks are used o keep doors locked unless he sys em gran s
access or he user se s he doors o remain unlocked. The ins aller mus supply he elec ric
s rikes and/or magne ic locks. I is recommended ha he ins aller follow and keep he
ins ruc ions for hese locks. One s rike or mag lock is required for each door. These locks

mus be powered separa ely from he con roller. The moun ing ins ruc ions for s rikes and mag
locks vary depending on he manufac urer and ype of lock. Please consul he ins ruc ions
included wi h he door hardware when ins alling. Once he locks are ins alled, follow he
ins ruc ions below o connec hem o he con roller.
The fingerprin con roller has one door con roller delay for he door lock con rol. Terminal 43
is named common erminals (COM). Terminal 42 is used for normally open erminal (N.O.)
locks. Terminal 44 is used for normally closed erminal (N.C.) locks.
The elec rical door lock mus have a separa e power supply. The power supply for he elec rical
door lock depends on he specifica ion of he lock. Carefully choose he cable connec ing he
door locks o fi he curren draw. Two common ypes of elec rical door locks in he marke
are elec ric s rike locks and magne ic locks. The connec ion me hods for hese examples are
shown in Fig. 7 Fig. 8 respec ively.
