TECHNICAL DATA AND CHARACTERISTICS
The “MODULAR PEDESTRIAN TUNNEL GENIUS” model “1168 X 2145” is a
machine used to protect from accidental falls of things from the above.
It is used to protect operators when they have to work near lifting machines under
risk of falling things by accident or to protect pedestrians during the works with a
punnet or lifting platforms.
The plastic material used for the top surface is registered with the Ministry of the
Interior under the name “Polycarbonate 20 RDC” and it has been tested according to
the norm ISO 7892 – NF P 08-301 “Resistance to an accidental impact” through the
following test:
-fall of a standardized 50 kg round/conical bag from a height of 2.4 m;
The tunnel has been additionally tested for static resistance to an accidental impact in
the following conditions:
-fall of a 5 kg weight from a height of 25 m.
Both the structure and the plastic material of the cover have passed the test having
resisted to the strain.
Please be advised that the surface is not passable/walkable. It is forbidden to use
the tunnel as scaffolding or retaining structure for people and/or objects or for
uses different from the ones prescribed in the present manual.
The pedestrian tunnel can be used in areas affected by wind up to 90 km/h
(resistance has been tested for a single unit).
It needs to be specified that assembly of several units together makes the structure
even more stable. The dimensions of the machine are given in the scheme on the next
page. The total weight of the machine is 30.5 kg.

INSTALLATION
The machine is supplied completely assembled.
The technology used for the machine makes both its installation and the opening of
the telescopic supports easy and quick thanks to integrated springs and a system of
mechanical know-how developed specifically for this type of use.
PROCEDURE
1) Place the machine on the ground on one of its longer sides in order to have a 90°
angle with the ground.
2) Open the telescopic supports one by one keeping your hand as close as possible to
part n° 2 shown in the picture in order to facilitate its withdrawal from part n° 1.
3) Push the telescopic support towards part n° 3 tightening the spring.
4) Open the telescopic support by rotating it by 90° and let part n° 2 reposition again
in part n° 1.
5) Follow the same procedure to fix the other telescopic supports.
6) Build up all the telescopic supports (consisting of a tube of a smaller diameter
inserted in that of a larger diameter): Phase a) Rotate the tube of a smaller
diameter towards the sticker aperto-open till the end. Phase b) pull out the tube till
it reaches the standard size of 2050 mm marked by a hole in the tube. Phase c)
Rotate the tube again in the opposite direction towards the sign chiuso-closed till
the end; this way the sliding of the tube will be blocked.
7) Lift the machine making the four telescopic supports touch the ground.
8) If necessary, adjust the height of the four supports trying to keep the cover surface
as horizontal as possible (follow the procedure in point 6).
9) To close the machine after its use, follow the above-mentioned procedure in the
opposite order.
After the machine has been placed on the site, it does not need any further
adjustments or controls, except making sure that the blocking device of the
telescopic supports is actually in the blocked position.
(see point 6, phase 3, chapter installation).

FIELD OF USE
The machine is designed and made to protect from accidental fall of things from
above.
It is used to protect operators when they have to work near lifting machines under
risk of falling things/liquids by accident or to protect pedestrians walking by during
these construction works with a punnet or aerial lifting platforms.
Besides, the machine is designed and made to shelter pedestrians from rain, snow,
hail, and sun, e.g. when pedestrians are queuing waiting at the entrance of a museum
or cinema; thus, they can be sheltered by the pedestrian tunnel. Plus, it is possible to
create a protected path against bad weather conditions between two public buildings,
such as schools, hospitals, town halls, etc.
FORBIDDEN USES
The machine is designed to protect from accidental falls of
weights within the limits given in the paragraph “technical data
and characteristics”.
The use of the machine does not eliminate the risks deriving from
the use of lifting equipment: do not stand under suspended weights.
The machine is designed for sites where the wind blows at a
maximum speed of 90 km/h (resistance tested on a single unit) as
given in the paragraph “technical data and characteristics”.
It needs to be specified that assembly of several units together
makes the structure more stable.
ACTIVATION
To activate the machine correctly, follow the instructions given in the paragraph
“installation” of this manual.

FUNCTIONING
JOINING OF SEVERAL UNITS
It is possible to use several units of the equipment joining them one another with the help of
lateral sliding fixing fins on all the four sides of each machine. It is only possible to join the
units where the lateral fins are positioned in the opposite direction (see the picture). It is
better the lateral fixing fins are not hit, as if bent it may not be possible to join them to other
units. It is recommended to the user to handle the tunnel and its components (accessories
included) with protective gloves, especially the corners of the lateral fins as they could be
sharp, even after factory bevel.
Scheme of joining of several machines
Thanks to a special connection, it is possible to join several units together, thus,
creating a tunnel of various length and form to satisfy any needs.

USE WITHOUT TELESCOPIC SUPPORTS
In case several units are joined to each other:
The tunnel sides with fixing fins going down may not require the folding of the corresponding
telescopic supports because, if joined to tunnels on the side with fixing fins looking up, they will be
supported by other tunnels, provided that the telescopic supports of the latters are open (See Pic.1
and 2). The advantage of this option is the possibility to position the units of the tunnel where there
are obsticles which, otherwise, might impede the opening of the supports. This guarantees the
contunuity of a certain route. However, the manufacturer recommends to use all the supports
wherever it is possible in order to increase the stability of the tunnel.
Pic.1 Pic. 2
Examples of joining the tunnels with closed telescopic supports: Pic. 1 the fixing fins direction is downward
on the short side on the right of the tunnel in gray, so it is supported by the fixing fins of the tunnel on the
left which has fixing fins going upward and the telescopic supports all open laying on the ground. Pic.2 the
tunnel on the right has the long side with the fixing fins downward and it is supported by the short side of
the tunnel on the left which has the fixing fins upward and the telescopic supports all opened laying on the
ground.

LIFTING AND STORAGE
Lifting of a single unit can be done by one person. Several units can be stored piled
up on a platform. Their transportation should be done with adequate slinging and
with the help of an adequate mechanical machine.
Thanks to their conformation, a number of pedestrian tunnels
can be piled up one on another which allows to pack them in
a pallet before transportation.
MAINTENANCE
ROUTINE MAINTENANCE
After use both the machine and its components need to be cleaned. Make sure that
the mechanical parts which help open and close the supports (part 1 and part 2, see
the picture) are always clean from dirt or debris. Whenever necessary, it is
recommended to apply white anti-dust grease on the two parts to ensure their
continuous and efficient functioning.

EXTRAORDINARY MAINTENANCE
No particular extraordinary maintenance is required.
In case a part of the machine needs to be replaced, you should contact the
manufacturer for a list of available spare parts.
SCRAPPING
In case of final decommissioning the machine must be completely deactivated and
entrusted to a company authorized to transport and scrap metal.
IMPORTANT:
It needs to be reminded that the identification plate of the machine as well as any documents
related to it should be destroyed.
