WARNING: Independent alarm installation
Like all mechanical and electronic devices, the Fancom Control Unit may fail. Thus, when the Fancom
Control Unit is controlling the environment for confined livestock, it is highly recommended by Fancom that
an independent alarm system be installed. The Fancom Control Unit does provide a connection port
designated for either make or break contact for the sounding of an alarm condition ( please refer to
installation guide for location ). Failure to comply with the above warning may result in loss of product and/or
profits, for which Fancom is not responsible or liable.

1. Introduction
The egg counting systems have been specially developed for egg counting.
The eggs are placed on a conveyor belt and pass underneath the egg
counter.
Infrared technology is used to count the eggs. The advantage of this
technique is that the eggs are not touched. Damages, soiling and blockages
are prevented.

3. Safety instructions and warnings
Installation and trouble shooting must be carried out by an authorised
technician/installer, according to the prevailing standards.
Fancom takes no responsibility for any possible damage as a result of
incorrect installation and/or a non or partially functioning installation.
1. Read the safetyinstructions carefully before mounting and using the IR.20-
150.
2. After unpacking the IR.20-150, check for any possible transport damage.
Report any damage directly to the distributor. Never install a damaged
egg counter!
Disconnect power before installation!
If the product is modified or altered in any way, the right of guarantee
and support from Fancom is forfeited.

4. Mounting
Observe the following points when mounting the egg counting system:
1. Mount the egg counter in an inclined position above the conveyor using
the bracket supplied (see Fig. 1). See bracket mounting drawing.
2. The sensor is at the bottom of the egg counter. Ensure the bracket
does not cover the sensor.
3. For an optimal count the eggs must be motionless on the belt. When
stopped, the belt should not back wind.
4. When mounted on a cross conveyor, the egg counter should be
positioned where the eggs cannot move (sideways). Moving eggs
could be registered more than once.
5. Intense light, namely sunlight and fluorescent light, can influence
accuracy. Place the egg counter out of direct (sun) light, or shield it
from light.
6. Mount the IR egg counter 2,5 cm above a large egg (no double-yolk).

5. Electrical connection
Observe the following points when connecting the egg counting system:
1. Use low voltage cables for electrical connection of the egg counter
(max. length 100m).
2. Connect the egg counter according to the instructions in Fig. 2.
3. Mount the cables so that they cannot be damaged.
4. Ensure that cables can be easily replaced in the event of a
malfunction.
5. Separate high/low voltage cables by mounting them in separate cable
channels.
6. If metal cable channels are used ground them.
7. Seal all gland nuts to prevent the entry of moisture.
Caution!
Apply power only after all the cables have been connected correctly.
Observe the regulations of the local electricity company.
Limit the length of the signal cables as much as possible; avoid
crossing high/low voltage cables.

6. Working
The egg counter has been calibrated at the factory.
The IR.20-150 egg counter gives one pulse per egg or one pulse per
10 eggs.
LED indication
The IR.20-150 has several LEDs (the IR.20 has 2 leds; the IR.30 3 leds; the
IR.40 4 leds; the IR.50 5 leds until IR.150 15 leds). These leds indicate the
egg counter status (Fig. 3).
The red LEDs illuminate when the counter is ready to start counting.

7. Maintenance
The egg counter normally requires a minimum of maintenance. The lens
usually remains dust free.
If the counter functions inaccurately, clean the lens.
Clean a dirty lens with an antistatic cloth or compressed air, preferably once
a month. If necessary, a non-aggressive glass cleaner can be used.
Caution!
When cleaning the poultry house, ensure running water or steam
does not damage the egg counters.
Always disconnect power before cleaning the poultry house to prevent
unnecessary registration.
