1 Introduction
1.1 Overview
This document describes the means of physica interconnection between the Wanderbox
and the various te ecom networks at the wiring eve .
The document provides recommended ine protection mechanisms and specified c asses
of device that shou d be used to provide adequate surge protection.
Refer to the “Com.X-Administrators Guide” for detai ed information on p atform
configuration, management and monitoring.
Refer to the “Com.X-End-User-Guide” for a detai ed operations manua of the Wanderbox.

2.2 Enclosure Description
Wanderbox is supp ied in one format, which supports ISDN, ana ogue connectivity and an
additiona LAN interface
2.2.1 Wanderbox format
The Wanderbox is a desk mount stackab e device, which provides connections to three
different sites: PBX, PSTN and Ethernet LAN
The Wanderbox front pane inc udes a power button accompanied with LED.
The Wanderbox back pane inc udes power jack and severa connection inputs.
The Wanderbox side pane if popu ated with a ine card has a sing e status LED or the
optiona LAN with dua status LED.
The Wanderbox Duo can a so accommodates the inc usion of an ACM card with a status
LED and power and transmit LEDs on the ports.

3 ardware Installation
Before you begin the actua insta ation, review the safety instructions and pre-insta ation
guide ines that fo ow.
3.1 Important Safety Instructions
When using your Wanderbox, basic safety precautions shou d a ways be fo owed to
reduce the risk of fire, e ectric shock, and injury to persons, inc uding the fo owing:
Read and understand a instructions.
Fo ow a warnings and instructions marked on the product.
Unp ug this product from the wa out et before c eaning. Do not use iquid c eaners
or aeroso c eaners. Use a damp c oth for c eaning.
Do not use this product near water (for examp e, in a wet basement).
Do not p ace this product on an unstab e cart, stand, or tab e. The product can fa ,
causing serious damage to the product.
S ots and openings in the cabinet and the back or bottom are provided for
venti ation, to protect it from overheating; these openings must not be b ocked or
covered.
This product shou d never be p aced near or over a radiator or heat register.
This product shou d not be p aced in a bui t-in insta ation un ess proper venti ation
is provided.
This product shou d be operated on y from the type of power source indicated in
the manua . If you are not sure of the type of power source to your bui ding, consu t
your dea er or oca Power Company.
The mains power socket out et must be ocated near the product and must be
easi y accessib e to a ow p ugging/unp ugging.
Do not a ow anything to rest on the power cord. Do not ocate this product where
persons wa king on it wi abuse the cord.
Never push objects of any kind into this product through cabinet s ots as they can
touch dangerous vo tage points or short out parts that cou d resu t in a risk of fire or
e ectric shock.
Never spi iquid of any kind on the product.
To reduce the risk of e ectric shock, do not disassemb e this product, but take it to
a qua ified serviceman when some service or repair work is required.
Opening or removing covers can expose you to dangerous vo tages or other risks.
Incorrect re-assemb y can cause e ectric shock when the product is subsequent y
used.
Unp ug this product from the wa out et and refer servicing to qua ified service
personne under the fo owing conditions:
oWhen the power supp y cord or p ug is damaged or frayed.
oIf iquid has been spi ed into the product.
oIf the product has been exposed to rain or water.
oIf the product does not operate norma y by fo owing the operating
instructions.

Adjust on y those contro s that are covered by the operating instructions because
improper adjustment of other contro s can resu t in damage and wi often require
extensive work by a qua ified technician to restore the product to norma operation.
oIf the product has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged.
oIf the product exhibits a distinct change in performance.
Avoid using a te ephone (other than a cord ess type) during an e ectrica storm.
There can be a remote risk of e ectric shock from ightning.
Do not use the te ephone to report a gas eak in the vicinity of the eak.
WARNING: It is recommended that an ICASA approved ightning protection device
be used on the Power as we as the PSTN ines. If ightning protection is not used
it wi inva idate the warranty.
3.2 Pre-Installation Guidelines
On y trained service technicians shou d remove the unit cover. Inside parts have
hazardous vo tages.
Do not connect equipment in wet conditions or during a ightning storm.
3.3 Installation Options
3.3.1 Desk mount
The Wanderbox can be ocated on any sturdy, f at surface. Before ocating the unit on a
tab etop, read the ocation guide ines be ow:
WARNING: If insta ing on a tab etop or any other f at surface, we recommend that you
stack no more than four units together.
Pre-insta ation Guide ines
The surface must be sturdy.
Avoid exposing the unit to excessive vibrations.
Keep the unit away from wet or dusty areas.
The area must not exceed the temperature and humidity guide ines out ined in the
product datasheets.
Leave at east 3” c earance surrounding the unit.
Do not cover vent ho es on top of unit.
Locate the unit on a tab etop as fo ows:
P ace the unit on a desk, tab etop, or any f at, so id surface.
Ensure the unit wi not s ip or fa from the surface.
Ensure the power cord is in reach of the power out et.

3.4.2 Power
The Wanderbox unit is powered by connecting the AC/DC power adapter to the “Power”
input of the unit.
Use on y the Wanderbox power adapter unit supp ied with your product.
Note: Using any other power adapter may cause erratic operation and/or damage the
Wanderbox unit.
3.4.3 Telephony interface connections
The Wanderbox unit supports the fo owing range of te ephony ports:
Ana ogue PSTN: Foreign Exchange Office (FXO)
Ana ogue Extension: Foreign Exchange Station (FXS)
Basic Rate ISDN (BRI)
Refer to the unit datasheet for technica specification of each of these ports.
3.4.3.1 Analogue PSTN (FXO)
