Welcome to the world of ComX changing the communications landscape for good
This leaflet will help you to get started with your new ComX solution This getting started guide addresses
networking and installation of the ComX unit and SHOULD e read in conjunction with the ComX

Description
The ComX supports two variants of hardware uild
Traditional PBX ISDN andor Analogue support
IP Gateway ISDN only no analogue support
"Traditional PBX": ISDN and Analogue support
The figure a ove shows the rear panel view of the traditional PBX ComX uild variant This layout has a
casing that supports Primary Rate ISDN PRI port Basic Rate ISDN BRI ports and Analogue telephony
ports up to ports FXS or FXO and any com ination thereof All telephony hardware interfaces are
modular availa ility of thereof is dependent on the ComX uild to order

Hardware Installation
Important:
Refer to the ComX Installation Guide for important safety instructions installation
guidelines wiring and surge protection mechanisms and recommendations

Ensure adequate ComX chassis ground zero impedance to earth ar and surge protection
mechanisms are suita ly installed
The ComX server is powered using the VDC power adapter included with your unit Connect the
power adapter to the server and to mains supply and turn the server on
Connect any Comma iTA units to any availa le second and third LAN ports Eth Eth using Cate
ca les
Connect the ComX server to a LAN switch using the first Ethernet port Eth using and a Cate
ca le
Connect FXS ports to telephones fax machines etc using standard Cat twisted pair ca les
Connect FXO ports to telco lines PBXs etc using standard Cat twisted pair ca les
Connect BRI ports to telco NT equipment or PBXs using standard ST RJ ca les
Connect PRI port to telco NT equipment or PBXs using standard E alanced RJ ca le
Accessing the Com.X10 server

Default access details for the ComX are
user: comma
password: farsouth
The ComX server GUI can e accessed using the url httpip where ip is the IP addressed
assigned to the unit via DHCP or one of the statically configured IPs All administrative tasks
ela orated on elow can e performed from the ComX GUI Please refer to the ComX Administrators
guide for more detail

The ComX server can also e accessed via its serial port using a nullmodem ca le with the
following settings
baud rate: 115200

The ComX server requests its IP address from the LAN WAN via physical Ethernet port LAN
la elled the eth interface in the Operating System This interface can e reconfigured with a static
IP in etcnetworkinterfaces as follows
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
netmask 255.255.255.0
Note that the Operating System networking will need to e restarted after this configuration change

The ComX server comes preinstalled with the following software
a DAHDI with Dynamic span patches for PRI and analog
mISDN with Comma patches for BRI

The ComX server is preconfigured with fixed IP addresses on the Ethernet ports which a Comma
iTA is connected to

Configuration
The ComX has een preconfigured with each Comma iTA device sold with the unit
etccommaconf including the MAC address and IP address configuration of each unit
The Dahdi and mISDN configuration files have also een preconfigured to match the configuration of
the Comma units
The comma manager Dahdi mISDN Asterisk and CommaGUI start automatically on system startup
NOTE The Comma iTA unit is reconfigured from the information on the server on every powerup or reset
Firmware upgrades made availa le on the ComX server thus ecome active on the next Comma iTA
restart
Identifying connected Comma iTAs
From the GUI select the Hardware panel A Scan of the network will list additional devices

Alternatively from the server type the following
comma-ls -v
Connected Comma iTA devices will e identified y their MAC addresses and IP addresses if
connected correctly and the hardware configuration and software versions will e listed
If IP addresses are not listed the unit may e connected in the wrong order Connect the units to
different ComX Ethernet ports The units MAC addresses can e viewed with their interface
configuration in etccommaconf in order to determine the correct connection order
Logging and Diagnostics
From the CommaGUI select the Monitoring menu for an extensive monitoring suite

The command line interface of the Comma iTA may e accessed from the Comma Manager directory
y typing
comma-console <IP ADDRESS>

A log is maintained while the Comma Manager is running typically found at varlogcommalog
less /var/lo /comma.lo

The ComX server system log keeps a record of system warnings and errors and can e viewed as
follows
less /var/lo /syslo
5.
The Asterisk PBX server command line can e accessed from the server as follows
sudo asterisk -vvvr
