1 Installation
Host Installation
The following figure shows how to connect the cables to the host.
Using the power adapter of 12 V, 1.5 A to connect to the host.

To connect the cables to the host, do as follows:
Step 1 Connect the telephone jack on the wall to the ADSL interface on the HG536a
with a telephone line. Connect the telephone to the PHONE interface on the
splitter with a telephone line.
Step 2 Connect the ADSL interface on the HG536a to the MODEM interface on the
splitter with a telephone line.

Step 3 Connect the LAN1 interface on the HG536a to the Ethernet interface on your
computer with a network cable.
Step 4 Connect the POWER interface on the HG536a to the power socket with the
power adapter.
Battery Installation
A handset is provided with the HG536a. Install the battery before using your handset,
take the following figures as a reference:
To install the battery, do as follows:
Step 1 Slide the battery cover down to remove it.
Step 2 Insert the battery into the battery compartment.
Step 3 Plug the battery connector into the receptacle in the battery compartment.
Step 4 Slide the cover up until it snaps in place.
Charging the Battery
Charging by the handset power adapter
Before using the handset for the first time, fully charge it for 16 hours
continuously.
Step 1 Electrify the base.
The handset is charged by the base. There are two different ways to electrify the
base, taking either of the following figures as a reference:

- Electrify the base by connected to the host.
- Electrify the base by connected the power adapter.
Using the power adapter of 12 V, 0.5 A to connect to the base.

Step 2 Place the handset on the base, taking the following figure as a reference:
After you place the handset on the base, the indicator on the base turns solid on, which
indicates that the handset is being charged.
If the handset power is low, you can also place the handset on the base for charging,
during this condition, the bars inside the icon are displayed on the LCD scroll.
2 Powering On
To power on the HG536a, press the ON/OFF button on the side panel of the HG536a.
After you power on the HG536a, the ADSL indicator blinks (for less than three minutes),
which indicates that the HG536a is being activated. Later, the ADSL indicator turns
solid on. The Power indicator is also solid on, which indicates that the HG536a is
working properly.

3 Setting the Internet Access Parameters
To set the Internet access parameters, do as follows:
Step 1 Set the network connection of your computer and ensure that your computer
obtains an IP address automatically.
By default, the DHCP function of the HG536a is enabled. In this case,
the HG536a assigns an IP address to your computer automatically and
you do not need to configure the IP address of your computer.
Step 2 Log in to the Web-based configuration utility of the HG536a.

Launch the Internet Explorer on your computer. Enter http://192.168.1.1 in
the address bar, and then press Enter.
In the displayed dialog box, enter the user name (admin by default) and the
password (admin by default), and then click Login.
After the user name and the password are verified, you can access the
Web-based configuration utility.
Step 3 Enable the embedded dial-up function.
In the navigation tree on the left, choose Basic > WAN.
Click New to create a WAN connection.
Select DSL from the Link Type option button.
Select Enable for WAN connection.
Enter the VPI and VCI parameters that are provided by the network
operator in the VPI/VCI text boxes.
Select INTERNET from the Service list option button.
Select PPP(oE) from the Connection type drop-down combo box.
Enter the user name and password that are provided by the network operator
in the User name and Password text boxes, keep the default settings of other
parameters.
Click Submit.
After you complete the preceding settings, you can surf the Internet.
You need to perform the preceding operations on a computer once only. The next time
when you power on your computer, you can surf the Internet without any configuration.

4 Configuring the Wireless Network
Connection
If a wireless network adapter is installed on your computer, you can connect you
computer to the HG536a through a wireless connection. To configure the wireless
network connection, do as follows:
Step 1 Log in to the Web-based configuration utility.
Step 2 Set the wireless network name and access password of the HG536a.
To set the wireless network name and the access password, do as follows (taking the
authentication type WPA-PSK as an example):

In the navigation tree on the left of the Web-based configuration utility,
choose Basic > WLAN.
Select the Enable WLAN option.
Enter a wireless network name in the SSID text box.
Select WPA-PSK from the Security drop-down combo box.
Enter an access password in the WPA pre-shared key text box.
Select AES from the WPA encryption drop-down combo box.
Click Submit to save the settings.
Step 3 Enable the wireless configuration service.
Taking the Windows XP operating system as an example, do as follows:
Right-click My Computer, and then choose Manage from the shortcut
menu.
In the Computer Management window, choose Computer Management
(Local) > Services and Applications > Services.
From the services listed in the right pane of the Computer Management
window, right-click Wireless Zero Configuration, and then choose
Properties from the shortcut menu.
In the Wireless Zero Configuration Properties (Local Computer) dialog
box, check whether Service status is Started. If not, click the Start button.
Click OK to close the dialog box. Then, close the Computer Management
window.
Step 4 Configure the wireless network connection on your computer.
To configure the wireless network connection, do as follows (taking the Windows XP
operating system as an example):
Choose Start > All Programs >Accessories >Communications >
Network Connections.
In the Network Connections window, right-click Wireless Network
Connection to display a shortcut menu, and then select View Available
Wireless Networks from the shortcut menu.

Select the wireless network that is configured in Step 2, and then click
Connect in the lower right corner of the window.
In the displayed dialog box, enter the access password that is preset in Step
2, and then click Connect.
After the password is verified, Connected appears on the icon of the wireless network in
the wireless network list, which indicates that the computer is connected to the HG536a
through a wireless connection.
5 Handset Registration
You can register up to five handsets to your host. The HG536a assigns a name to each
handset according to the registration order of the handsets. For example, the name
assigned to the first handset that is registered is HS 1, and in standby mode, the name HS
1 is displayed on the LCD of that handset.
If you want to register the handset, do as follows:
Step 1 Pressing the Page button on the side panel of the host until the Phone indicator
blinks, and then release the button.
Step 2 Within one minute, register the handset to the host.
press on the handset to display the main menu. 1.
Press or repeatedly to select Registration, and then press . 2.
3. Press or repeatedly to select the Base with which you want the
handset to register, and then press .
Enter the registration code (0000 by default), and then press . 4.
If the registration is successful, the handset will return to the standby mode and the
handset number (for example, HS 1) will be displayed on the LCD of the handset.
