This manual contains important information regarding the safety, operating and
maintenance of this product. Before using the product, read and understand all
cautions, warnings, instructions and product labels. Failure to do so could result
in injury and/or void the warranty.

INTRODUCTION
The Farlight L864 (AC or DC) obstruction light provides an LED-based solution
to the FAA style of flashing red obstruction lights.
The Farlight L864 (AC or DC) obstruction light is a self-contained unit that
requires no maintenance.
Please contact Farlight Australasia before attempting to open or repair the unit.

BRIEF OVERVIEW
Cable
All units are supplied with an exterior grade, sunlight-resistant, waterproof,
EMI-shielded cable to meet the harsh environments of salt fog, rain, wind and sun
(UV) with an operating temperature range of -55C to +55C.
Power
The L864 (AC or DC) is designed for 100-265V AC, 50-60Hz operation or 24-48DC.
Surge protection
The L864 (AC or DC) has an internal surge protection device. Please do not
attempt to remove or repair the surge protection unit.
Mounting
The L864 (AC or DC) mounts directly to conventional L-864 Beacon bolt hole
patterns(seeg.4forboltholepattern).
Warranty
Farlight Australasia warrants all products to be free from defects in material and
workmanshipforaperiodofve(5)yearsfromthedateofshipment.
Farlight Australasia’s sole responsibility under this warranty shall be, at its option,
to repair or replace the defective product. There are no other expressed or implied
warranties,includinganyimpliedwarrantyofmerchantabilityortness.Farlight
Australasia will not be liable for consequential damages or the cost of removal or
reinstallation of its products. Buyer shall pay for all shipping costs to and from Farlight
Australasia for all repairs or replacement covered by the warranty. The warranty shall
not apply to defects or damage caused by shipping, improper installation, improper
use, or abuse of the product. Damage caused by lightning or other acts of God are not
covered by the warranty. This warranty does not apply to products manufactured by
companies other than Farlight Australasia, regardless of whether they have been sold
by Farlight Australasia for use in conjunction with Farlight Australasia products.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
In no event will Farlight Australasia be liable for special, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, regardless of the
formofaction,whetherincontract,strictliability,orintort,includingnegligence,norforlostprots.Norshalltheliabilityof
Farlight Australasia for any claims or damage arising out of, or connected with, this agreement or the manufacture, sale,
delivery,use,maintenance,repairormodicationoftheproductsorsupplyofanyreplacementpartsthereof,exceedthe
purchase price of the products. This limitation of liability shall apply to any liability for default under or in connection with
the products, the parts, use, performance, or services delivered hereunder whether based on warranty, failure of or delay in
delivery, or otherwise. This clause shall survive failure of an exclusive remedy.

INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE
Warning: Disconnect power from all wiring and circuitry before
installing or working on the beacon
The installation of a new complete L864 (AC or DC) beacon is
similar to that of an incandescent light source assembly. The
recommended installation procedure is outlined below:
1. Inspect for damage during shipping
2. Bench test beacon
3.Onceproperoperationhasbeenconrmed,mounton
structure
4. Wire the beacon to the power source
5. Verify operation
Mounting Guidelines
The L864 (AC or DC) beacon is mounted to the tower pedestal
using 1/2” hardware (supplied by the customer). The base of the
light has 4 mounting holes that align with most tower pedestals.
The light should be installed level to maintain light output.
Farlight suggests that lightning rods be installed near the light.
The lightning rods should extend a minimum of three feet about
the height of the beacon.

WIRING THE BEACON
The light is supplied with an 2 metre power cord that is prewired to the internal
electronics. This cord should be connected to the power source and grounded.
The ground wire must be connected for proper operation and connection of
the beacon.

Verifying operation of the beacon
Apply power and verify that the beacon is flashing
Installation reminder
Although factory tested a bench test is recommended prior to installation in order
to ensure that is has not been damaged in transit.
Maintenance
No regularly scheduled maintenance is required for the unit. Farlight warranties
thelightoutputoftheL864(ACorDC)tomeetorexceedrequirementsforave
year period.

CHANGING MODES - STEADY OR FLASHING
In order to change the mode of operation, you must open the housing and access
the slide switch on the micro-controller.
This product can be damaged by electrostatic discharge (ESD).
Use a conductive wrist strap attached to a good earth ground when handling.
