been designad to conform with, or exceed, the
American National Standards Institute A119.2, NFPA
501C, Canadian CSA Standard Z·240 (Canadian-built
of units built for Canada), and applicable motor vehi-
cle standards. These stat'lcillrrls establish the plumb-
ing. heating. electrical and other requirements for
quality and safety. Compliance with these standards
is indicated by the seal attached just outside the entry
door. This seal is the outward sign of internal quality.
Like all
finely crefted equipment, your motor home
will require care and regular maintenance in order to
rotsin its maximum performance Characteristics. This
manual, along with the information provided in your
Owner's Information Kit and Chassis Operator's
Manual outlines important areas 01 maintenance and
provides a
maintenance schedule that you should
follow to ensure safe, trouble-free service from your
motor home. Study these instructions care/ully. A
good working knowledge of your motor home and
how to care for it will help you enjoy many miles and
years
of recreational living.
The motor home has been thoroughly inspected
before
shipment. It is the duty of yom dealer to
inspect the motor home and to prepare it for you dur-
ing the predelivery phase 01 the sale.

LOADING AND WEIGHT DISTR.IBUTION
Proper loading is one of the most important con·
siderations when traveling in a motor home. Your
motor home is built to withstand a certain maximum
load. Check the labels Bnd tags attBched to the motor
home to delermine the safe load limits. For safely's
sake, NEVER OVERLOAD THE MOTOR HOME. This
manual contains information aboul proper loading and
weighing of your motor horne.
CONTROL OF THE MOTOR HOME
Know how to control your motor home on the
highway. Be familiar with passing and stopping
requirements, and problems that can develop. Know
how to brake properly, how to back up, and how 10
tum. Practice in a secludcd ploce until you become
familiar with the handling characteristics and IDch-
niques of your motor home. Don't overlook the laws
of your stato Or province that govern driving a molor

MOTOR HOME LOADING
A motor home chassIs Isp,ing~, wheels, tires, axles,
and frame) is
des'gnod to carry a certain maximum
load_ This load cordsts of th", waight of the empty
motor home itself, pillS weight added in the form of
W<ltsr, food. clothing, and anything else thaI may be
stored in Of attached to the motor horrie. The maxi-
mum load for which the motor homo is doslgned is
called the GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING
(GVWR).
Anothor eritical woight factor is the GROSS AXLE
WEIGHT RATING IGAWR), This is the maximum
weight a specific axle is designed to carry. Again the
mting represents empty vehicle weighl plus load. The
weight IS dlvidod batwoon "ach axle and each has
its own GAWR. The total of ~II axle loads must flot
exceed the overall GVWR.
In addition to knowing the oVMa11 weight that can
be safoly lo~d"d irl Of attached to the motor home,
you must know how to distribute the weight so that
correct amounts of weight are placed on the axles.
The allowable carrying capacity of the motor homo
is
fo"nd by weighing the motor home empty, and
sobtracting this weight from the GVWR.
DETERMINING AND DISTRIBUTING
YOUR MOTOR ,HOME LOAD
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating {GVWR) arid the
Gros~ Axle Weight Rating {GAWR) for your mOlor
home arc shown on the certification tag posted on

To fasten belt be sure IT is not twisted, then push
the longue end of one belt into the buckle of the
mating belt. Be sure it latches. Pull the loose end

center of tho buckle and slide the tongue out of
the buckle.
Adjust the belt as low on the abdomen and as snug

comfort will allow, for greatest safety. Never use

ON THE ROAD
DRIVING AND PARKING
Once you become aCCUSlOmed to the feel of the
controls and the reference pOints from the driver's
seat, you will f,nd driving the motor home comparable
to driving your family car, Become familiar with the
position of the motor home in traffic, and be cautious
when maneuvering to allow lor the length and width
of the vahicle. Always allow extra room 10 comer and
to change lanes. learn 10 use tile side mirrors to view
the road behind. Check thorn often.
Drive with consideration on the highway, observing
all speed and safety regulations. The best cruising
speed of your motor home will vary with road and
weather conditions.
Remombor thnt your motor home is heavier than
a car, making it less maneuverable a"d harder to SlOp.
Also, because of its greater side surface area, it is
more easily affected by cross winds. Allow extra
distances for passmg and stopping, and drive at a
modomte speed, particularly in traffic and in gusty
wind conditions.
Driving on winding or mountain roads is not difficult
jf done with reasonablu care. Obsurvc propor vehicle
speeds when ascending or descending hills and
~Iways operate in the proper transmission range.
Downshift on hills to avoid overheating or undue
engine loads. Downshift when descendmg grades.
Engine braking power will help control vehicle speed,
and relieve some of the strain on the brakes.
Road conditions. terrain, weather. and other driving
facto's are sometimos unpmdrctGblo, and mountoifl
driving Or desert temperatlJres can put extreme
demaflds or. drive train components -especially the
traflsmission. Under extreme heat conditions you may
need 10 tum off the vehicle air conditioner to improve
engine and transmission coohng.
Allow for the extra height of your motor home and
avoid areas having low overhead clearance. Check for
low-hanging tree branches or other obstructions
whenever you driyo Or park. Avoid low roofs whon
pulling in for SOfvico. ThiS may be particularly
important if you drive with the overhead vents open
or ,I the molOr home is equipped with a roof air
conditioner, roof rack, C8 Or TV/mdio antenna.
When parking parallel to " curb, be sure to ~lIow
for poles Or obstructiofls as the front and rear potlions
of the motor home swing wider than an au!omobile.
When parking on an incline, turn the front wheels into
the curb in the direction of tho roll to aid the parking
brake. Always shift the tmnsmissiofl to PARK ("P")
and set the parking brake when parking.

PARKING ON A GRADE WITH A TRAILER
You should not park vehicles with trailers on a grade
or hill. However, if you must park on a grade, follow
these steps,
1. Apply and hold the regular brakes.
2. Have
someone place wheel chocks <mder the
trailer wheels.
3. Whsn Ihe wheel chocks are in place and the
assistant is clear, release the brakos until the
chocks absorb the load.
4. Apply the parking brake.
5. Shift the transmission to "P" {PARK, with auto-
matic transmissionsl or low or reverse With
manual transmissions.
If the vehicle is parked on a grado, don't shift tho
transmission to "P" (PARK) ulltil the trailer wheels arc
chocked and the parking brake is set. If you do, the
wOight of Ihe vehicle and trailer may PlJt so much
strain on the transmission that it may be hard to shih
out of "P" (PARK).
When starting after being on a grade:
1. Apply and hold the regular brakes.
2. Start engine in "P" (for automatic transmissions).
3. Shift into go", and ",Iense Ihe parking brake.
4. Release the regular brakes and drive until the
chocks are iree.
5. Apply the regula, brakes and have someone
remove Ihe chocks.

10. Removo wheel "uts and wheels. Put spare wheel
in place.
11. Replace wheel nuts. Carefully lighten lhe nuts
snugly Wilh the wheel and lire off the ground.
12. Low~r the vehicle until the tire contaclS lhe
ground. Do not put the full weight o( lhe vehicle
on the tire.
13. Tightsn
the whealiluts (ollowing the sequence
shown in the diagram. to the specified torque.

14. Completely lower and remove the jack. Removo
blocks, boards and other tools.
15. Drive the vehicle off the chock.
16. CheCK the tightness of the wheell1uts often untH
you get to a tiro sorvic(} center. Have the wheel
nut torque and air pressure checked by
professional tire
sarvice personnel.
TO CHANGE A REAR WHEEL:
{If only one lire is flal on a rear dual, drive 25 mph
or less (or 110 more than 5 miles 10 a lire service
center, checking the tire often.1
1. Move the vehicle to a level. finn surface.
2. Tum off the engine, place the transmission
selector to "P" and sat the parking brake.
3. BlOCK the fro"t and back wheel in the opposite
comar from the wheel to be changed.
4. On questionable surfeces, usa a board or other
solid, flat malariai under the jack to provide a firm
base and I!'inimize shifting.
5. Slide
the jack under the rear axle housing and
screw the extension out until il touches tha axle
housing tube.
Be sure the jack is centered Oil the
axle tubo so the vehicle will not slido off tho j~cK.
Place tho jack far enough inboard 0" the axle so
tho jack can bo opomted without gelli"9 under
the vehicle.
6. Begin jacking until the jacK is firmly positioned
but do not lift the tire off the ground.

7. Loosen, but do not remove the wheel nuts.
8. Raise the vehicle until the tire clears tho ground.
9. Remove wheel nuts and wheel. Remember. with
dual wheels, both wheels will be loose. Remove
arld replace wheels and nuts cara/ully.
10. Put spare whoa] m plaGl!. Replnce outside dual.
it necessary. The dual wheels MUST line up
properly.
If the wheels are not aligned. thuy will
wobble enough to calise damage to tires arld
bearings.
11. Replace wheel nuts. Carefully tighterl thu nuts
snugly in sequence shown in tho diagram.
12. Apply the spedfied torque to all nuts in
sequence. Dual
wheels must be tightened with
both wheels off thu ground.
13. Lower
the jack. Remova jack. blocks. boards and
other tools and
equipment.
14. Check the tightness of the wheel nuts otten untj]
you get to a tire service center. Have the wheel
nut torq\le and air pressure checked by
professionBI tim servico personnel.
TOWING
If your motor home ever needs to be towed, please
follow thes~ instructlOns.
• Secure any loose
of protruding parts of damaged
vehicle.
• Inspect points of attachment to the disaoled
vehicle. If attachment points are damaged or
deteriorated, select other attachment points at
a substantial frame structural member.
• Novor Bilow anyone to go unde, a vehicle while
rt is being IiHed by towing equipment unless the
disabled vehicle is adequately supported by
safety stands.
Do
not tow the motor home from the rear. Towing
from the rear will cause the front tires and suspension
to be seriously ovorloadud, possibly resulting in tiro
or front suspension failure. The rear frame extensions
are
not designed to withstand the loads imposed by
liftLng from the rear.
If the rear whools am disabled, place the motor
home 0" a flat bed trailer, or use a heavy duty dolly
under the reer wheels and tow from the front
NOTE: IF YOUR MOTOR HOME MUST BE TOWED.
PREVENT DAMAGE BY HAVING THE TOW TRUCK
DRIVER FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE
CHASSIS OWNER'S MANUAL.

LIFTING PROCEDURE
1. Attach ';]" hoob to the inboard ends of the lowe,
control arms.
2. Position a 4 x 4 length of wood across hitch
chains just behind the bumper.
3. Position the
lowor sling crossbar directly under
the bumper.

Attach safety chains which are compictoly
independent of the primary lifting and towing
attachment around the frame side rails.
5. Lift tho vohicle until tho whBols me a mimmum
of 4" off the ground. Be sure there is adequBto
ground clearance at the rear of the vehicle.

The vehiclo may bo towed on the rear wheels with
tho parking brake roleBsed and the transmission in
neutral
provided a speed of 35 mph and a distance
of 50 miles is not exceeded. It this speed or distance
must be exceeded. disconnect the props haft Or placo
the rear whu"ls on a dolly. DO NOT TOW ANY
VEHICLE AT SPEEDS OVER 50 MPH.
The safety of the operator and all others in the
vicinity of the tow truck and the towod vehicle m\lst
be considered at all t,mGS during a towing operation.
DO NOT
ALLOW ANY PERSON TO RIDE IN THE
TOWED VEHICLE. Sate operating speeds depend on
weather, road. traffic. visibility conditions, and tho
condition 0/ the towod vehicle. Avoid parlic stops.
Obey
all state and 10callBws regarding items such as
wnrning signals, night illumination, speed, etc.
AUXILIARY START SYSTEM
An Auxiliary Start System installed in your motor
home permits usirlg the auxiliary battery powor to Bid
in starting the motor home engine if the vehicle
battery has discharged.

When necessary (indicated by one or more clicking
sounds when the key is wrned 10 the START positionl,
use the Auxiliary Start SYStem as follows'
NOTE, Shift the traflsmisslon to park {"P"l and appiy
the parking brake.
1. Press down and hold the Auxiliary Start switch.
2. Turn the k!!y to start engine In normal manner.
Hold AUXILIARY START button down until
engine is running.
3. Release AUXILIARY START button and oporate
motor hom!! in ~ normal manner.
When operating properly, your vehicle altemelor will
ha able to handle normal vahicle driving requirements
and also recharge the batteries m a masonable time
whon on the road.
